or are people still having bbqs in their back gardens

Not here! I love the warm weather and I love bbqs. We always bbq when we can, often in the winter too.

RevengeOfTheDirtyLaundry · 26/07/2026 09:22

I wish it was still around where I am. We've got rain and temperatures in the late teens. I'd love a return of the heatwave. Tired of hearing my relatives down south moaning they're too hot😆

socks1107 · 26/07/2026 09:23

I am still having bbqs and long evenings in the garden. The real heat I’m dreading again this week though ( tube journeys, no air con at work)

Overtheatlantic · 26/07/2026 09:26

I’m in Oxfordshire and we’ve had a mix of temperatures this summer, with it currently being gorgeous and mild. We’ve been able to get lots done in terms of painting and clearing up the patio and deck. Would love a few days of rain though.

Had three BBQs in the last week. So, yes.

gingercat02 · 26/07/2026 09:28

I would do if it wasn't raining

MinnieGirl · 26/07/2026 09:30

I hate bbqs so no I’m not having them! But I am loving the long days spent in the garden. Eating outside, getting all the washing dried on the line, chilling under the parasol with a book or my knitting…. And then a glass of wine while hubby waters the garden before dinner. Absolute bliss! Having said all that, we are both retired so don’t have to do anything or be anywhere during the scorching hot weather which does make a difference!

takealettermsjones · 26/07/2026 09:31

It's cold and raining where I am. I went out yesterday in my big coat! Bring back the BBQs!!

TheWildZebra · 26/07/2026 09:32

Where are all these people with rain??? Please channel it towards us down south, it’s a bloody tinderbox here , it is awful. No grass on fields, little hay cut this year, potatoes looking pathetic, our trees are starting to brown too. 😖😖😖

RampantIvy · 26/07/2026 09:33

There seems to be quite a north/south divide now. I'm visiting family on the Somerset border and the temperatures are currently consistently 5 degrees warmer than where I live in Yorkshire.

At the moment everyone is wishing/praying for rain. The firefighters are pulled out with fighting all the wild fires due to idiots who have been using portable barbecues while out for the day. (What's wrong with a sandwich?)

My village at home and the surrounding area was badly affected by smoke from the fire at Tintwhistle yesterday (which has been burning for weeks) after the wind changed direction.

High teens to mid 20s where I live which is fine. 27 degrees plus in cities, not so fine.

Tel12 · 26/07/2026 09:33

No, not enjoying it at all. It doesn't feel English, much prefer 3 hot days and a thunderstorm. Our clay soil is turning to dust. 9We have predictions for 30 - 32c midweek so especially not looking forward to that.

FruAashild · 26/07/2026 09:33

Currently in the far north of Scotland. It was cold, windy and rainy yesterday. But on the way up we saw the wildfires in the Cairngorms so thankful for the rain right now.

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 26/07/2026 09:34

We've been using are barbecue every night apart from the last week when it's been cooler and other commitments have meant the air fryer was a quicker option. It's raining now in north Derbyshire.

TallagallaPenguin · 26/07/2026 09:39

We didn’t have any bbqs when it was around 30 deg - it just felt too hot to be sitting out in it, even in the evening we were too tired with the heat to go out. We’ve had quite a few since it dropped more to the mid/high 20s.

Hedjwitch · 26/07/2026 09:40

Loving the warm weather. Not a single bbq though as dont really like them.

frozendaisy · 26/07/2026 09:54

Much more enjoyable now teens off school/college, slower mornings, house full of teenagers and bustle, long warm evenings with easy food, reading, music, chat, socialising. Days out doing outdoor things, no need for coats or waterproofs.

Life is what you make it.

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 26/07/2026 09:55

Planned to have our first BBQ of the year last night & it rained after weeks of sunshine!

RampantIvy · 26/07/2026 14:39

I find barbecues such a faff and more hard work than cooking in the kitchen. Cleaning the barbecue is a PITA also. In hot weather we eat a lot of salads or I just do a quick stir fry.

Kazzy5055 · 26/07/2026 14:43

Hasn't there been a drought declared in Wales?

Ibi · 26/07/2026 16:57

Why all the dislike for bbqs? It’s like saying you don’t like grilled food, or food cooked in the oven!

tobee · 26/07/2026 17:13

I love bbq but find I stress over them too much! I’m always half hoping to get an invite to someone else’s bbq!

I think the weather has been fine over the last few weeks, way less humid than that first heatwave where it was rather soupy.

I always feel disappointed when the day’s are noticeably shorter.

TheChosenTwo · 26/07/2026 17:18

We bbq or cook in the outdoor woodfired oven all year round so yes, still enjoying it! Although the last few days have been really overcast and windy. Meant to get lovely and warm and sunny again tomorrow, we are off to Cornwall and as predictable as you could imagine, it’s meant to be a pathetic 20 degrees with a mixture of sun and cloud, cheers weather gods. Not.

Hedjwitch · 26/07/2026 17:20

BBQs involve lugging a ton of stuff outside, and then back in again. Not worth the faff when I can have grilled food in my kitchen if I want to.

LondonLass2026 · 26/07/2026 17:23

It's cold, windy and rainy here in the north east of England. Had to close the window earlier as it was cold. (and I don't get cold easily)

It's nice and fresh though, and I am enjoying feeling cool after weeks of high humidity. Just hate the rain. Had my clothes outside on the line and they're all soaked.

RaraRachael · 26/07/2026 17:33

Oh how I wish for just one hot day. It was 26 degrees one day about 3 weeks ago and that's been it for the entire summer 😪
