What remakes of films do you genuinely prefer over the original?

Mine is Jumanji: Welcome to the jungle.

Not technically a remake I guess since it’s a sequel long after the first one, but I really do find it brilliant.

Obviously quite memorable for several of us!

I didn't know it was a remake until quite a while after it came out. Watched the original: meh. I'm afraid I don't rate Steve McQueen as an actor much anyway. He looks good but you may as well have a cardboard cutout of him in every scene.

I thought the remake of Carrie was pretty good but don’t even talk to me about the new Mary Poppins with Emily Blunt. Some things should be left well alone.

Not films but first one is House of Cards. The UK one is good but the US remake is sublime.

And secondly I get a lot of deserved hate for this but The Office. I find the US one funnier. It took me a while to like it because the first season is so bad but once I got through it’s my definite preferred one.

West Side Story.

It is my favourite musical to see at the theatre, and I've enjoyed several school / amateur productions over the years too, but I've never liked the 1961 / Natalie Wood version where the 'hoodlums' in the gangs ballet dance their way through the film. The 2021 version is a great improvement.

I prefer 'Always' to the original 'A Guy Named Joe'.

This was my first thought. I absolutely adored the original growing up, was word perfect and my friends and I acted it out in the playground. As an adult I'm more likely to watch the remake.

The Steve Martin ‘Father of the Bride’ better than the 1950 Spencer Tracy version, although that is also very funny 😄

Also West Side Story… I absolutely adore the original and was so annoyed when I heard they were remaking it. And then I saw the Spielberg version and just WOW!!!! It is better!

Ripley (with Andrew Scott) on Netflix so much better than Matt Damon's Talented Mr Ripley. So much more subtle.Such beautiful cinematography. (OK it's series vs a film, but still..)

You don't like the original choreography that won an Oscar? That same choreography by Jerome Robbins was in his original Broadway production too, and is still performed in the top stage productions today.

I love the opening scene of the new Italian job. That sentence makes a lot of men very angry.

From what I've seen, the originals are mostly better than the remakes with the exception of Cape Fear, which is more scary and better paced than the original.

I prefer the originals. I wish they'd stop remaking things and be original!

Jeff Goldblum's The Fly is better than the 50s version. But that's also deliciously 50s, just a fresher interpretation and is that his willy in the bathroom cabinet?----

Another vote for the Thomas Crown Affair. The later version is great.

I loved the original. Probably the first grown up film I really identified with, grew up in a rough inner city multi cultural area. Although I was in England it felt like the first film that was anything like my world.

Controversial I'm sure, but I prefer the Kiera Knightly version of Pride & Prejudice.

The soundtrack is so beautiful.

I was going to say House on Haunted Hill, I was so genuinely terrified by that!

I prefer Tromeo & Juliet. Way more fun and lemmy (from Motorhead) is the narrator.
