What remakes of films do you genuinely prefer over the original?

Mine is Jumanji: Welcome to the jungle.

Not technically a remake I guess since it’s a sequel long after the first one, but I really do find it brilliant.

Watching Jack Black be a 16 year old girl is brilliant

Oh no - I much prefer the Robin Williams version of Jumanji

But I surprised myself by preferring Denzel Washington's The Magnificent Seven over the original (which had been one of my childhood favourites)

The Parent Trap. I prefer the Lindsay Lohan version.

Thomas Crown Affair. Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo were excellent.

I didn't mind The Roses either. Didn't love it (but nor was I fond of the original)

The Lady Killers with Alec Guinness was far superior to the Tom Hanks version.

I liked the newer version of True Grit. I think Jeff Bridges is a better actor than John Wayne.

Annie 2014 is better than the 1982 version I love them both though.

Miracle on 34th street. Much prefer the 1990s version.

Agree about Jumanji, and that’s almost entirely because of Jack Black.

Far From the Madding Crowd with Carey Mulligan. I love the original but the 2015 version is even better!

Mädchen in Uniform. The 1958 remake with Lilli Palmer and Romy Schneider beats the 1931 original into a cocked hat!

True, but Robert Duvall was brilliant as Lucky Ned Pepper.

Invasion of the body snatchers. Both versions are good, but the original had an optimistic ending that felt a bit forced.

I liked Let Me In more than Let The Right One In.

Not a popular opinion, but I prefer Spielberg's West Side Story. The cinematography is incredible, and Newman and Dudamel nailed the orchestration. Much more depth and colour, whereas the original feels very brass-heavy.

The Thing (1982) for me is the major one that is far better than the original. I also prefer the House on Haunted Hill remake.

Same with Freaky Friday. Also prefer the Parent Trap remake.

Dune - only just watched - amazing!

That's the opposite of what OP asked. Although I completely agree with you! Tom Hanks version was awful, far beneath the Coen Brothers' usual standard.

Evil Dead. The original seems a little old and campy. the 2018 is really decent and scary.

Noooooo. Never! You cannot beat Julie Christie. Carey Mulligan most certainly cannot.
