Why is Nigel Farage….

….dressing like Alan Partridge for the by-election? Just like Alan Partridge, ready for a trip down the Norfolk Broads.
Or does he dress like that all the time? Surely not?

I paused briefly over one video and since then my algorithm seems to be set firmly to Farage, and his fashion choices are just fascinating. I know I could change the algorithm back fairly easily but I now can’t look away.

Here is this morning’s ensemble. The double breasted blazer with brass buttons seems to be a staple, but the garish trousers in a kind of ham pink, and the purple tie seem to be taking the whole thing in a bolder direction than usual.

Why is Nigel Farage….

I’d say it’s how he normally dresses, perhaps you’ve not noticed before. He’s particularly fond of a wax jacket.

It's his I'm a man of people cosplay outfits

But I only see one other person dressing like this, and it’s Alan Partridge. Who isn’t even really a person.

I’ve never seen anyone apart from ferry captains in this get-up??

Don’t forget the deck shoes - very useful for walking on water and stopping all the small boats 👍🏻

AImportantMermaid · 24/07/2026 07:31

I am bored to death of this grifting gobshite. Can he not just fuck off back up Trump’s leaky backside and leave the rest of us in peace?

WearyAuldWumman · 24/07/2026 07:32

Trying to look ex-military? I only ever see brass buttons when they're regimental buttons on blazers. (My late husband had a navy blazer with regimental buttons which he wore to army reunions.) The lighter blue looks a bit odd to me.

I'm not aware that Farage ever served.

Agree wholeheartedly.

ErrolTheDragon · 24/07/2026 07:39

Maybe he’s trying (and failing) to emulate the style someone who had proper jobs in politics before turning to a good career on TV i.e. Michael Portillo? But obviously he’s not got the pizzazz to go the full hog with e.g. a lime green jacket.

OhFucko · 24/07/2026 07:55

Is he dressing in nautical themes because Clacton is by the sea and that’s how he thinks they dress??

Is that it!!? Surely not! 🤣

ginasevern · 24/07/2026 08:18

Just like Alan Partridge only not so funny.

OhFucko · 24/07/2026 08:26

Alan: As you know, the end of the week I’m meeting Tony Hayers at the BBC. And he is Mr. Numero… one, and the problem is I’ve got some rude daubings on the side of my car.
Sophie: Can you still drive the car?
Alan: Well, yeah yeah, obviously, but that’s… do you know what it says on the side of my car?
Sophie: Tosser?
Alan: No. You’re in the right ballpark. No, it actually says Cock Piss Partridge.

Must re-watch 🤣

He has some similarity to Alan Partridge but I tend to think of him as more Alan B'Stard. Maybe he doesn't get satire. What will happen when his Corby Trouser Press self destructs?

MrTiddlesTheCat · 24/07/2026 10:21

He desperately wants to be upper class. This is him cosplaying his idea of what the king would wear, as he swans around Clacton on his 'royal' walkabouts.

orangehandles · 24/07/2026 10:31

People do want change, but he is not the person to provide it.

He looks as though he is cupping imaginary breasts in that photo.

Don't be absurd - their style isn't remotely similar........

It's how wealthy (and aspiring wealthy) men dressed for smart casual in the 80s, when most of his views were formed.

Plenty of middle aged men dress like this. Country pubs, and rugby and cricket clubs here in the Home Counties are infested with them. They’re certainly never short of an opinion.

ParsleySageToiletDuckAndBinBags · 24/07/2026 10:45

Is he one of the Red Trousers Brigade? This is very common in certain demographics; but I always think they look like overgrown toddlers!

The ancestral red trousers - very good for hiding the port stains.
