New manager told role is now a job share after 10 days

I'm 10 days into a new role as a manager in a new start up.

Today the owner informed me that my role was now a job share with a person that has no management experience and very little experience in what the start up specialises in.

It caught me by surprise and I'm really disappointed.

I've been pulling 12-14 hour days for the past 10 days to get them up and running and now I'm thinking why on earth did I bother?

I don't know if I should make it work or if I should just jump ship now.

I had brief job role outlined in my offer letter.

They tried to come back to me and discuss it all today but it's too late. I am done. I told them that they will pay me what I'm owed and they agreed, this is in writing.

I think they were just in over their heads and badly organised. They own several other businesses but this is their first in this area which is why I was brought in.

I was very excited about it. Really believed in this project, hence why I was willing to put in the long hours.

I'll just write it off as a learning experience. At least I only invested 10 days.

Not a bit surprised they came back to you. But the trust is gone. Did they apologise? Do you know why they hired the inexperienced manager and tried to make you both have the same role?

Any idea why they were desperate enough to get the other person that they threw you under the bus?

I hope that you find alternative work soon. You were brave to stand up to them. Start-ups can be the start of something big or something that quickly fails.
