If England did win the world cup

I appreciate there is a little way to go and this is all very hypothetical but if England do win and they do decide to declare a bank holiday what happens to elective surgeries?

I have an anxious relative who has been waiting a long time for surgery, they are in a lot of pain and currently they have a date of Friday 24th July. Trying to support their anxiety as they are so desperate for the surgery to go ahead.

I have heard the rumour that IF we won the 24th July would be the bank holiday, would that mean the NHS would cancel and re arrange any elective surgeries that day?

Appreciate it’s all out of our control but interested
to see if a last minute announced bank holiday would lead to cancellations

Oh. I have a medical procedure that day. It's one I've waited a while for. I doubt it'll be considered 'urgent' although I can't have a more urgent procedure done until this has been done.

i have been following the FWC (hence my name) & watched far more football than is normal 😂 but I hadn't considered when the BH would be IF we win & IF we get a BH.

NHS appointments were all cancelled & rescheduled for the last residents doctors intended strike. Then rescheduled again when it was cancelled. A bit of a mess but not the end of the world. If your relatives appointment is affected, they'll sort it out for them & it shouldn't be too long a wait.🤞🏼❤️

im taking England's games 1 at a time. I think the refs could be the biggest barrier to a win tonight.

I guess we dont know but i imagine NHS staff just get a day of TOIL as its super late notice.

TOIL is when you work a bank holiday so get an extra day off to book at another time.

If I was him, I’d be agreeing to whatever at this point. “Bank holiday? Sure! Let’s have 5!”

It’s ridiculous that this has even been suggested. It’s only a football match, yet we are all expected to bring the country to a halt? Pathetic.

The bank holiday is a ridiculous idea. It's far too short notice and would just be a bloody nuisance. If they wanted to have one and gave a few weeks notice that would be better.
I don't know what would happen in your relative's case. I hope the surgery goes ahead, bank holiday or not.

We aren’t allowed to work on a bank holiday so I would miss a day for nothing.

I can’t get my head round the idea of declaring a bank holiday just because a sporting team won a match - it’s madness!

Why? If you don’t like football it makes no earthly difference to your life, and it doesn’t make you cool.

It does if we have a last minute bank holiday forced upon us because it affects everyone then. It’s a football match, I resent having more stress put on me from being forced to have a day off for no good reason. I will still have the same amount of work to do but less time to do it.

It’s not like surgeons only work 9-5 M-F. Clinical staff needs to be in hospital to make sure patient care is provided safely. I don’t think everyone just gets days off. I have lots of hospital appointments. I even have them on Sundays. I very much doubt consultants will be cancelling so they can get pissed at the pub the night before.

I hope hospitals will work as usual. I always assumed they worked all week and was shocked to find weekends were low staff.
If England do win the World Cup it won’t feel real. Not like in other World cups. This one is different. Haven’t been following it at all.

Our employer will close. So I’m in the ridiculous position of hoping that England lose so that I’m not put under any further pressure. All this over a fucking football match - it’s ridiculous.

I hope not. It seems like things planned on weekends and bank holidays fall into certain categories so they do just carry on but it’s things deemed electives that are only done Monday - Friday that could fall risk of cancellation

The England Women’s Rugby Team won the World Cup last year….seems some of you don’t seem to know that.

There'd be no BH for the men's rugby team either because a fraction of people are interested compared to football.
