Life tips for the soul

If you’re really and truly happy and fulfilled in life, please give your top tips and how you got there.

(I’m 49 and just feeling meh lately)

Spend time with animals. They are so much better than most humans.

Luvnhugs · 11/07/2026 22:01

Worry less about other people's opinions of you.

Try to find joy in the simple things in life. Possessions are not the key to happiness.

If people you trust betray you move on & don't hold on to grudges. You may never forgive them but you can recognise their weakness & turn it into pity.

Regardless of plans live one day at a time. Life has a way of interfering with the best laid plans.

Throw envy to the wind. Jealousy is a heavy burdon to carry.

If you are fortunate to have loved ones in your life keep them close & cherish time together. Every day could be your last. There is nothing to be gained by fighting. There are no winners.

Not everyone will like you & you won't like everyone. The important thing is to learn to like yourself.

People portraying picture perfect lives on social media never show the whole picture. Everyone has their crosses to bare.

Finally that old cliché. Stop & smell the roses.

Your question OP stopped me in my tracks & I added my thoughts as they came to my mind. I would never profess to having the key to happiness or that I'm happy 24/7. I do my best to live according to all of the above & try to remember nobody deserves a smile more than those who have none to give.

Go off grid and keep yourself to yourself !
spend time outside and spend money on nice food! Find it harder in winter to be fair.

PermanentTemporary · 11/07/2026 22:02

Read more history. I always end up so delighted that I live now and not then.

BlueFahrenheit · 11/07/2026 22:13

Nature, day trips, plants and meaningful hobbies. I'll reiterate: nature.

I bought sunflowers earlier and took myself to the beach and nearby woodlands to take some photos.

It's important to go back to that indigenous feeling of observing how beautiful the world is as it is.

What do you mean by that? Literally off social media or do you mean disengaging more generally from interaction?

I’m not a massive nature lover. I appreciate it of course, but am a city girl at heart

Half time 😅

I think this means being happy in your own skin even when alone. Having company doesn't always solve loneliness which can happen in a crowded room.

frozendaisy · 11/07/2026 23:09

You don’t have to be unique
The fact you are a human existing part of a small (relatively) group of intelligent life for light years in all directions
Enjoy the wonder around you being here for what is effectively a blink of an eye

Just the feats of engineering (if you are a city girl) that brings safe water into buildings and the complexities of traffic lights.

You exist
You are here

Find Jesus

Is he hiding somewhere? Give me a clue. Like hotter or colder

I can honestly say that losing Christianity from my life has added considersbly to my happiness.

Be thankful, gracias la vida!

Remind yourself of all the good things in your life.
You have won the lottery being born in the UK in the 21st century already!

Think of your life if you lived in in Sudan, Ukraine, Russia or Venezuela.

After that, look for periods of happy moments, kindnesses, content or delight. Just moments, that's all you can expect.

Find a purpose, something that adds good to the world preferably. Look nearby, a lonely neighbour, an unloved patch of ground, a brownies group.... can you help?

Let go of all forms of worry or anxiety - your body, your health, your life, your family etc etc.... just let the worries come and then let go of them! Like balloons floating away...

Makes some plans to give yourself something nice to look forward to.

Finally, get a good book to read.

And - most important - get to bed at a decent time and make sure you rest enough.

PauliesWalnuts · 12/07/2026 00:13

Look up more - both in the city and the countryside. Skies, buildings, trees - there is so much interesting stuff right on top of us that we just don’t notice.

Big fan of this

Smile at strangers, be nice to people and they are almost always nice back. I'm a big believer in fake it til you make it, at least in superficial exchanges. People respond so much more warmly to a smile and happy person who seems engaged and listens, and asks them about their day. When I'm feeling low these little interactions going about my business really lift my spirits.

Observing people who love and care for each other can be really uplifting too. Just watching a parent interact with their child in a loving way, or a couple holding hands, or some teen boys having a laugh or a group of women laughing over a drink together. When you look around there is so much love, it's just hard to see it sometimes unless we really look.

(Just realised this sounds like the opening voice over to Love Actually)

Yes off social media all together - don’t engage in those who are not genuine friends, give input where it’s a genuine connection only. Have zero expectations of others to avoid disappointment and drama. Be private. Only focus on what you are upto. I spiralled recently when comparing to those with much more money than me but then after a period of reflection found things that I have that they don’t. My house is really small and needs work which we can’t afford but it is a house of love and peace and I’m happy with that for now. I have pulled back from all acquaintances as when an issue happened no one wanted to get involved.

I’m here for the tips
life feels very empty and I can’t seem to find any joy, even though I used to love so many simple things

smallglassbottle · 12/07/2026 12:07

Plants and nature. Even if you don't have a garden you can have some plants in pots and a mini pond made from a container. Herbs in pots on window sills are easy, parsley and basil in particular (water well and feed regularly).

These are my indoor geraniums and my mini pond. Cheap to buy, set up and care for. Very little effort and they really cheer me up. You can also make a very cheap indoor fountain out of a ceramic or stone fruit bowl, some rocks and a small fishtank pump. I have this on in the background and it creates a gentle trickling watery sound. I've stuck some mint in mine.

Do something for others. Looking out serves us better than looking in.

Be thankful and glass half full.

I think counting your blessings is underrated.

PrimeSeason · 12/07/2026 13:14

Exercise most days. Just a brisk walk in nature/ your local park is so, so good for you.
