Neighbour demanded proof of our hosepipe ban exemption

My NDN has just demanded to see proof that we are exempt from the local hose pipe ban !!!!

I have said to them I won’t be showing them anything as it’s private but they can report me if I want and the water company can check.

We literally have just been filling a small paddling pool daily for the dc for after school and today have a little sprinkler toy as it’s boiling.

I know some people aren’t aware that there are exemptions (eg being on priority services register or certain tariff) but I’m so shocked they demanded proof !!!

Absolutely this. If posters on here spent less time lamenting a child having a paddling pool and more time developing their critical thinking skills and reading a bit of history they’d be much better off.

expect to be able to use the resources I pay for! If it’s not water it’s the NHS, if it’s not the NHS it’s basic road infrastructure. We pay for all of this don’t we? Why would I be grateful to get what I pay for?

I’ve spent a fortune on my plants and they will be watered! Now if the water companies are willing to cancel direct debits until they are able to begin providing a full service again then I’ll reconsider.

And when we're doing worse as a society, ie access to healthcare, financially vulnerable, etc, it's worse: short-tempers, low tolerance for the transgressions real/perceived of others, crime increases...

I am exempt too.
I take pleasure in using it in my front garden in the hope it annoys her.

@springintospring26. What’s use of washing machine and shower got to do with hosepipes? Yes you need priority access to water if there were standpipes but otherwise your use is higher but not any different in pattern to most people.

I was clearly explaining that priority service and exemptions are given for a multitude of reasons. I, personally will not be using a hosepipe during the ban, not that that should be a concern to you

Do you genuinely think a couple of days of people not watering their lawns will be what makes a difference?

But, what are you watering? Access isn't meant for keeping grass green.
For example,
it only applies to domestic use of hosepipes for actions like filling paddling pools and hot tubs, washing cars and windows, and watering the garden. fruit/veg may be watered.

Thank you! I doubt the water companies will be prepared to reimburse me for the literally hundreds of pounds I have spent on plants for my garden so far this year, and I will not be letting them die so the fat cats can get fatter.
