Neighbour demanded proof of our hosepipe ban exemption

My NDN has just demanded to see proof that we are exempt from the local hose pipe ban !!!!

I have said to them I won’t be showing them anything as it’s private but they can report me if I want and the water company can check.

We literally have just been filling a small paddling pool daily for the dc for after school and today have a little sprinkler toy as it’s boiling.

I know some people aren’t aware that there are exemptions (eg being on priority services register or certain tariff) but I’m so shocked they demanded proof !!!

@BlueFahrenheit what do you suggest my elderly DM with dementia does if we have a drop in water pressure and for a short while she can’t get a drink from the tap or the loo doesn’t flush properly, because a number of people think their green lawn takes priority. How do you want me to explain that to her? How does she prepare for that and then understand and remember why she prepared for it. She would just panic that no water was coming out of the tap.

Now I can be and I am angry with the local water company that the infrastructure is shit, but that isn’t going to help my immediate concern about my DM.

I have an exemption because a family member has incontinence and therefore a need to use the washing machine and shower very often. There’s no DLA or PIP involved. Each situation is looked at on its own merits

No it isn’t. The individualism is actually coming from the water companies that are more focused upon keeping a handful of stakeholders happy instead of using their billions of pounds of profit on essential maintenance and infrastructure that would limit the need for things such as hosepipe bans.

If we, as a collective, said enough is enough rather than snitching on neighbours for filling paddling pools we’d all be in a much better place for it. Because believe me the CEO of a water company will not be adhering to any hosepipe ban.

Honestly, basic common sense would dictate that you keep a few bottles of water on reserve, rather than helplessly waiting to be rescued. And if the toilet fails to flush, do try to master the art of basic patience and wait a while; it isn't rocket science.

Once again, we are forced to rely on the infrastructure to sort out the complex wonder of ensuring all homes have a bountiful supply of water.

I agree. Those that control the means keep those of us at the bottom fighting against each other as a way to control us and distract from the actual issues and their profits.
