Has Trump accused Zelensky of poisoning Graham yet?

😂

logicisall · Yesterday 11:17

Trump is going to do a main character take over and claim that it was an assassination attempt on him that went wrong. Pick your culprit - Dumbocrat or Iranian. Or even better, a commie, dumbocrat, Iranian immigrant!

Who is also very loud.

Opinions on the new health check up and stable genius cognitive test he's bragging about are either:
The (what seems to be) monthly check up/assessment of the experimental drug he's rumoured to be taking for dementia
or
he's actually talking about the last one he undertook and had forgotten (dementia) that it was a while ago.

Well. It makes a change for Lyndsey Graham to make the headlines and nobody being upset by it.

Apart from Ted Cruz that is. He is devastated because his name is next on the list to be Don's golf partner. In fact, there is something Graham said that was good, and that was about Cruz.

If you killed Ted Cruz on the floor of the Senate, and the trial was in the Senate, nobody would convict you,”

Are any pharmaceutical stocks performing unusually well ?

I think you're straying over the line a bit there, TBH @RedTagAlan . The guy wasn't a murderer and presumably does have family and friends.

walllaw · Yesterday 13:40

I suspect there are some sighs of relief over at 1600 Pennsylvania that Lindsey performed a final act of service in deflecting attention from the administration's various crimes and misdemeanours just in time for the Sunday shows.

@PerkingFaintly I generally agree with that kind of thinking, but then, he dismissed the deaths of the Iranian schoolgirls as 'things that happen in war,' iirc. So perhaps he'd dismiss this as 'things that happen to 71 year olds'.

These people don't make it easy to hold onto our better selves.

So do all the legal immigrants who were separated thanks to his actions.

Much like the recent tragic killing of Ann Widdecombe this side of the pond, it's entirely possible to separate out the art from the artist.

I signed myself up as a TRIP US Founding Member as a birthday treat for myself (and they had an offer on). They did a special few episodes on Trump’s health and the consensus, between them and consulting with doctors, was that Trump doesn’t have anything specific wrong with him like dementia, but that he is in exactly the condition you would expect an 80 year old man with a poor diet to be in - needing more rest, forgetful on names, etc.

Mooch pointed out that he’s always been a pretty healthy individual and as a young man was a good athlete, which often sets you up for a long life.

On the regular cognitive tests they did agree that it was unusual to see so many happening (and also pointed out that it’s not the type of test where you can score 100%!) but that if you were trying to keep an eye on an 80 year old with access to the launch codes, you probably would want to test them regularly anyway.

I look at my dad, who is nearly 78 - he has a multitude of health conditions that mean he rarely leaves the house. He struggles to walk, gets out of breath easily and sleeps a lot of the time. In a lot of ways Trump is in better condition than many his own age.

Presumably Graham’s passing triggers a special election? Is his seat in the same position as McConnell’s, ie if the seat is vacant more than 90 days before the midterms then it needs as special? Not sure if Graham was up for reelection in November?

No special election. In SC the governor appoints the replacement to finish out the current term. The governor isn't bound to choose a replacement of the same party, but SC's Gov McMaster is a Repug and a staunch supporter of Scrotus so.......

But since Graham's term expires 3 Jan, there will be a special Republican primary to selected a replacement candidate for the midterms. This primary must be held by 11 Aug.

What is interesting is that SC has 'open primaries' which means that anyone can vote for any candidate. I don't know if the open primary rule applies to special primaries.

The only thing in (some) US politics that I would happily see in the UK is some form of primary system. Where the electorate gets the potential final say on all candidates

In fact, if we can't have some form of PR, then a primary system might be a compromise.

The closure of the Strait of Hormuz doesn't seem to rate high in term of news stories. Why not? Is everyone just bored of it, like Gaza, Ukraine etc....

RedTagAlan · Yesterday 15:08

Well I have just done a couple of posts on that over on the Iran war thread. I am sat here with a copy of UNCLOS open trying to figure out what the law says V what both sides are saying.

Confused Compared to what? I'm still seeing pretty much daily headlines, despite it competing for space with England in the World Cup and the murder of Ann Widdecombe.

Forgot to mention, and to add to my above post, CNN do have a pretty constant feed on the Iran war. Sky news too. CNN link here:

There appears to be a fair number of mums netters who keep that feed open on their devices.

I think I would prefer a system where the main parties select MP candidates from local councilors. Then local elections might be considered a primary of sorts. But main parties only. Anyone should be able to stand.

Binface, Binface Binface....

logicisall · Yesterday 15:40

I think that any link to the Iran War thread ought to be accompanied by the disclaimer that a poster who is very thin skinned and likes to have the last word control the narrative is on it and has form on having posts deleted at the slightest whiff of an adverse comment, yet is constantly trying to provoke our informed and saintly@RedTagAlan. 😄

I think part of the problem in the UK has been the mixing of local and national politics. The last thing that would help would be to further confuse the two.

I mean I want my local councillor to get my bins emptied competently and on time and get the roads passable and the schools working. Fuck what their opinion on Gaza or blokes in dresses. What's that got to with my street ?

I'd rather chew broken glass than dip my toe in that murky water. I view those threads the way I view the water in Florida....if there's a body of water, there's an alligator in it. Don't get near it and never turn your back on it.

Besides, it's too nice a Sunday morning here for me to chance an apoplexy.
