Who is paying for the by-election

HRHCurmudgeon · Today 14:28

LizzieSiddal · Today 14:27

The reason he’s doing this is because there’s a rule that once you have a by election YOU CANNOT INVESTIGATE PREVIOUS MONEY HES TaKEN!!!

I read in the Guardian that this is untrue - they can restart the investigation.

TinyGingerCat · Today 14:28

What a fucker - and what a waste of public money. Is he going to foot the bill with his enormous private income.

He’s just beating off…..

Did you have to go that low?🤮

Atkinsondesperation · Today 14:29

This is clever. His position will be strengthened by this.

MargoLivebetter · Today 14:29

@LizzieSiddal if that is so, he is a conniving weasel. I'm heading off to the parliamentary standards page to see if that is the case.

AnAutumnCrow · Today 14:29

LizzieSiddal · Today 14:28

So now the parliamentary investigation cannot now go ahead Angry

Lindsay Hoyle could set the polis on him.

BackToLurk · Today 14:29

We need a Martin Bell

Firegoddess · Today 14:29

I would never vote Reform but I admire what he has done by resigning and forcing a by-election. Good for him. Can't imagine any other politicians having the bollocks or putting the control to the 'people' enough to do this.

sittingonabeach · Today 14:29

Will the inspection stop if he doesn't get elected?

How?

"I'm really sorry for everything, I've accepted money from Russia/Putin, MAGA/Trump, Israel, Musk, and of course the scammed millions from the more gullible members of the English public.
I have therefore made a full statement to Scotland Yard and will await my trial".

Well, apart from the MPs who have already done this. David Davis springs to mind for one.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · Today 14:30

I hope Count Binface stands and beats him

It won’t happen but it would be delightful

27 minutes of fuck all. I’m off to pick raspberries.

Are you the jam woman?

Yes, it can. However, if he loses the by-election parliament won't be able to impose any sanctions on him.

I agree that its clever. And its so rare now to see a politician do something clever that I admire it.

We'll have to see if it strengthens him or not.

BeasKnee · Today 14:31

I'm annoyed with myself for basically watching a party political broadcast for Reform for the last 20 mins. I can't stand him but lots of people don't feel the same and will agree with everything he's just said. He knows how to play the game if nothing else. You can see it in the US with Trump. It doesn't actually matter what the money was for. If it was a bribe his supporters won't care. We're all suckers for watching him expecting anything else but what he's just done.

He knows he's got his own news channel and all the Russian bots on his side. Don't need morals when you have misinformation.

But what does a by election achieve? It doesn’t clear him of any wrong doing?

MargoLivebetter · Today 14:31

@Firegoddess well it will be tax payers money that funds the byelection, so hopefully you will feel it well spent!

"If parliament is dissolved or the member otherwise ceases to be a member while an investigation is in progress, the commissioner will suspend their investigation until the member is re-elected. If the member is not returned to parliament, the commissioner will decide if it is appropriate and proportionate to resume their investigation."
