My DH suggested he is pre-empting a recall by election by stepping down and standing again. This is feasible, but surely people would vote against him for unnecessarily costing taxpayers money.

If he takes a break Reform will wither on the vine. It’s a one trick pony. Without Farage there is no Reform. They’ll all head over to Reduce/Reuse/Recycle or whatever it’s called.

I think he’s stepping down from one of the roles, no need to make an announcement if he isn’t. Not sure which is best for him to leave!

I don’t think he’s going anywhere & instead will complain about Sky news harassing his family ( they deny doing this ) . Also he said that the 5 million pound that he received from a convicted fraudster was a personal gft , therefore he doesn’t have to declare it . ( I’m not sure anybody would gift someone 5 million ! ) A gift from a friend is a pair of cufflinks or a dinner out , not 5 million !

Under the Commons standards committee’s code of conduct procedural protocol, it is clear that if an MP stands down while an inquiry is underway, and is then re-elected, the inquiry can be reactivated.
It says:
"If parliament is dissolved or the member otherwise ceases to be a member while an investigation is in progress, the commissioner will suspend their investigation until the member is re-elected. If the member is not returned to parliament, the commissioner will decide if it is appropriate and proportionate to resume their investigation."
