Fingers crossed.

Farage to make statement this afternoon …

It doesn"t, it just keeps him in the headlines.

Infinitely greater potential for headlines if he has friction to rub himself against.

Lifeomars · Today 17:48

It looks like the other parties may not stand at all. Which puts Farage right back in where he left, with the investigation still pending

That would be hilarious, hope it happens 😃

What is he supposed to do for the bribe? Don"t smart criminals usually bribe elected officials?

He’s already had a private meeting with the head of the Bank Of England where he asked them not to release a BOE cryptocurrency.

I wonder why Farrage would do that?
Nothing at all to do with the fact a government owned cryptocurrency would be a competitor to the business of the chap who gave Farrage £5 million!

Reform don't stand a chance at the next election WITH Farage. Their support is at saturation point. They've persuaded everyone they're going to persuade, and it's not enough people. Lowe is stealing more of that pot by the day, and the financial scandals surrounding Farage keep on coming. Unless we really have become as turd-thick as MAGA voters, he cannot stand on a ticket of fighting the elite and championing the ordinary man while the man's wealth, property empire and criminal funders crawl out from underneath the carpet.

The best way to conquer Farage is to deny him oxygen. The logical reason not to stand is to deny him the opportunity for the 'fight' he has declared himself.

My son once had a massive hissy fit over some perceived slight and threw an unopened, uneaten Twirl in the kitchen bin to spite us. We just looked at him, ignored his wailing and thrashing and attempts to engage us in his entirely invented, perfectly over the top and ridiculous nonsense, and carried on with our day.

He fished his Twirl out of the bin and silently ate it. It was the most ridiculous thing, and has become family lore.

Farage just stamped his foot and threw his own chocolate bar in the bin. Cool. Now fish it out and eat it, you stupid idiot.

Edited

Quite right. The man's a charlatan and always has been. Full of bullshit and greedy for money.

Bribed to do what?

To do someone's bidding when the time comes. Think aboit it. Nobody givrs away a shedload of dosh without wanting something in retirn. It just doesnt happen.

ByQuaintAzureWasp · Today 17:57

The prat is going to stand for election in the seat he has resigned, costing g the taxpayer £275k. Should not be allowed by law!

So he wasn't going to stand, he got the bribe, suddenly he's standing and lobbying for tax breaks for crypto????

Which bit don't you get?

To be non partisan about it I'd be just as against any other party doing it too.

If it was a "gift" why did he not declare it, and then change his story about what it was for?

That is not the behaviour of an honest man.

He's disappeared for a couple weeks and now played the one card he has left. Get Clacton all agitated about the boats, and send you, his loyal foot soldiers to deflect away from the real issue (his corruption) and onto Starmer buying a field for some donkeys or some other irrelevance (quick somebody say Brexit).

You do see that right? Are you able to engage with the bribe issue? Or will you keep deflecting?

DogAnxiety · Today 18:00

Nothing says “reform is on the rocks” like calling a sham performative by election to detract from Burnham’s ascent to power, and Nigel’s shady dealings. “we tried to pay for it” is also not going to age well, if it turns out Nigel cant just buy his way out of the bad anti-DOGE look this has all created. I’d be very surprised if private individuals or political parties were allowed to fund elections.

JimBobsWife · Today 18:08

Whynottryagain · Today 16:22

I loathe Reform but tbf the FCA is awful. If you look in to their actions over the Collateral P2P platform they've been as useful as a chocolate teapot and there are ongoing actions against them in this regard still dragging on after a decade.

Find me a regulator/quango who is good at its job, and I'll show you my dead great grandmother's teeth.

gerispringer · Today 17:28

Do two wrongs make a right now? Strange how Reform supports cant bear to criticise Nigel but are quick to whinge about others perceived failings. A good example of deflection / whataboutery.

What choice do they have? They've been all over the place telling us "Farage is the next prime minister, deal with it!" wittering about their 'man of the people" Now the whole house of cards is falling, they must be a bit embarrassed and are trying to save face.

I don't want Boris back in frontline politics though. However, he could beat Farage. There are plenty of Tory party members who thought poor old Boris was terribly hard done by.

I honestly don't think he would beat Farage. The 'Boriswave' moniker has been incredibly effective. He's far less popular than many (probably including himself) believe him to be.

I thought Reform were all about saving the tax payer money???

Certainly the Reform Leader of a neighbouring council is spouting live on TV that he will save ‘the tax payer…millions…no billions’ ( the council doesnt even have a budget of millions…and who wants to save the council so much money and have no services anyway).

Some serious critical thinking and researching actual facts, required in this country.

Made more hilarious if he gets fewer votes than last time.

"Look he couldn't even get more votes in an election where he was the only candidate"

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · Today 18:13

A man who cares so little about his actual job should indeed be told where to stick it by his employers

It won’t happen though and he knows it

Blightfitting · Today 18:16

Who, even amongst the electorate of Clacton, so left behind by politics and so misled by Brexit era, could look at Farage and think 'Yep. He's my guy'?

twocornichons · Today 18:24

Just heard Ed Davey on LBC saying they are going to fight for the by election to be postponed until after the investigation, Farage is trying to twist the narrative because he’s so far into the establishment he’s trying to take the electorate of Clacton for a ride

That, if it's possible, might be the most sensible thing Ed Davy has ever done.

Bring back Boris didn't go well last time iirc

I don't want it to go well, they are both awful. I just think a direct competition between them would be interesting to watch.

A job where you have either run a business or worked in a business.

Whomever thought that increasing NI for employers, increasing the minimum wage and then not expecting employers to pull their horns in are stupid and totally out of touch with how businesses are run.

so a business that can only make profits because they need cheap labour ? i thought society abandoned slavery years ago ?

How is that relevant? The point is that, in my and other's experience, the FCA absolutely do need reforming. Of course I doubt Farage's plans would be those required.

. Reform are still leading the polls . Even with the Saviour's bounce.

Binface and Zack need to both stand in this ! I want to see Nigel having to speak to them both 😂😂😂

I don't know if you're Team Nigel or Team Zack but I would pay to see Zack and Nige do a few rounds. It would be hilarious.

They will win Claiton…easily…

All main parties have confirmed they will not be standing.

Back-fired Nige! 😂

I don’t know, this could go wrong easily. The media could chase him around Clacton asking him what he will do with his 5 million once he gets back into Parliament. Even if he wins he doesn’t really. It would be good fun for them over the summer when there is little news.

It will certainly take the heat off Burnham. He might be quite pleased...

Televised debate.....?
