10 years since Brexit-would you vote the same?

I was listening to a podcast today about this, and it was really interesting. They had a group of people who voted Leave at the time, and although most of them were unhappy about how it has panned out, only one would have changed his vote if they could have voted tomorrow.
I voted remain at the time, and would do so again. The loss of freedom to travel across the EU, and work without visas is a loss, most likely not to me, but to DS who would have loved to have travelled across Europe and work his way with ease.
What would you do, and why?

I voted remain and would vote the same.

Likewise.

Be interesting to see if any Leave voters comment, if they would still vote leave and if so, could they kindly tell us what benefits we are enjoying.

Yes

NoEffingWay · 05/07/2026 20:55

If anyone is interested, the podcast was from ‘The Story’ on spotify. I struggled to understand why there was such reluctance to change votes!

I voted leave. I would vote leave again.

SpottyAlpaca · 05/07/2026 20:58

I voted Remain, would do so again & would vote to rejoin.

Brexit was a mistake. However they may have voted back in 2026, most people now accept that.

SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter · 05/07/2026 20:58

I vote remain and would 1000% vote the same way again! Brexit has been nothing but detrimental to me.

kalokagathos · 05/07/2026 20:59

Yes. I voted remain.

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 05/07/2026 21:00

Voted remain. Would vote remain again.

Because Brexit has been hugely damaging for the UK, as anticipated.

Backawayfromthesausage · 05/07/2026 21:00

I voted remain, I’d now vote leave, I think it’s a million miles better for us to be out, and a terrible mistake to try to go back in.

I voted leave. I would vote leave again.

Why? Genuine interest.

NoEffingWay · 05/07/2026 21:01

I can confirm that getting through the airport for the first time since they have introduced the gates and fingerprinting was interesting-no more wandering down to the exit and being out straight after getting my bags! It wasn’t as bad as I imagined but when it’s the height of summer I could only imagine the queues, and that’s only one example.

Voted remain and would do again. Can't see anything good that has happened as a result of leaving.

UnaGatita · 05/07/2026 21:03

I voted remain. I think Brexit was executed poorly. If there was actually a plan and it looks feasible I’d vote leave next time. That’s a big ‘if’ - but I don’t like the ‘big government’ of the EU these days. I think it’s become cumbersome with lumbering decision making.

MaybeIamJustABitch · 05/07/2026 21:03

If we’d been told the truth, I would have weighed up the benefits for either and gone for the truth (if we might have been told it).

Pearshapedpear · 05/07/2026 21:04

Voted leave and would do so again

KrazyKatty · 05/07/2026 21:11

Brexit has been an unmitigated disaster and has affected my family very badly. We are financially much worse off than we were ten years ago as a direct result of the UK leaving the EU.

Sadly, the people who will still vote leave are the ones most likely to vote Reform, as they are still pretty clueless about international politics and think that the UK can live happily in its own little bubble, when in reality it will sink even further into oblivion.

Unfortunately, I think we’re heading towards WW3 with Russia manipulating a Reform govt.

Thankfully, as a family, we’ve now left the UK as I can’t see it ending well.

Good lord - why? Please tell us how we can get all these Brexit benefits. It has been a full on clusterfuck from where I’m standing.

I voted remain. Would vote to remain, and would vote to rejoin. My parents and sister/BIL voted to leave. My DD has since died but the rest of my family would now vote remain.

My mother was very upset to find out that the NHS wasn’t actually getting an extra £350m a week. I know there are Brexiters that will say ‘Oh we didn’t actually mean that even though we wrote it on the side of a bus’, but that’s what my mother believed and that was why she voted. And yes, I fully agree that all the information was available and she should have read it, but she didn’t. She only heard what she wanted to hear and now she has to wait 3 weeks for a doctors appointments because all the EU doctors went home.

dogtot · 05/07/2026 21:14

voted leave and yes I'd change my vote.

SundayGirl86 · 05/07/2026 21:16

Yes, I’d vote the same way - another remain voter here. Brexit has been as terrible as predicted, and I don’t understand how anyone can argue otherwise.

EarthlyNightshade · 05/07/2026 21:18

Remain and I'd still vote remain.
I am still bitter that is even happened and that ten years later we are still suffering from a continued rise of the far right.

I think the leave voters are still riding on how much they have upset remain voters rather than actually enjoying any tangible benefits.

Changingplace · 05/07/2026 21:18

Viviennemary · 05/07/2026 20:56

I voted leave. I would vote leave again.

What benefits do you feel we’ve gained from leaving?

HappiestSleeping · 05/07/2026 21:19

Ultimately, it doesn't make any difference now. We left. We wouldn't be able to rejoin under the terms we had. The damage is done and it is irreparable.

There were a million permutations of leave, but only one for remain. So, I imagine that there are many disenfranchised people who voted leave on the basis that this wasn't the leave they voted for. It was though as it was a binary vote. Leave or stay. The vote was leave, so we left.

Cameron was a total muppet. But we need to get on with it now.
