10 years since Brexit-would you vote the same?

I was listening to a podcast today about this, and it was really interesting. They had a group of people who voted Leave at the time, and although most of them were unhappy about how it has panned out, only one would have changed his vote if they could have voted tomorrow.
I voted remain at the time, and would do so again. The loss of freedom to travel across the EU, and work without visas is a loss, most likely not to me, but to DS who would have loved to have travelled across Europe and work his way with ease.
What would you do, and why?

Ah, because the EU would’ve stopped it from happening? Is this the sovereignty we’ve been promised, my mistake for not recognising it.

This is an example of what I predicted. I gave what some might consider a benefit and you’ve replied with a sneer.

Maybe try actually giving some context to your examples and you’d get a better response, it was completely unclear as to whether you saw the VAT on private school fees as positive or negative so I was being sarcastic.

lol, thank you for proving my point 😊

What, that the heads of the EU are elected democratically and their political agenda is also driven by elected officials? What point are you actually trying to make? 😊

Individual MEPs that we could vote for were part of this governance system, in the same way we’d vote for an MP within the structure of government.

Did you want a personal vote on the head of the EU? You don’t get a personal vote on the PM, so it seems highly unlikely.

Why is it relevant how I view VAT on school fees?
Anyway, according to you it’s not an outcome of Brexit.

As I said originally. I think it’s undemocratic.

If they want it to be the United States of Europe then yes it should have parties, leaders and manifestos - voted for by the people.

No idea why you’re still replying to me. I have said this 3 times now.

I got my Irish passport because i'm an Irish citizen. Are you suggesting that despite being part of the marvelous EU, that Ireland is strugging?

There are trade barriers now between Ireland and its nearest neighbour. Ireland has gained plenty for being in the EU (I'm surprised you don't know that) but it would be doing better if the UK had not left (I'm surprised you don't know that as well).
Of course UK citizens put their own interests above Ireland but it's sad when Irish citizens don't do that as well.

Remain then remain now

I cant understand why the leavers believed that leaving a partnership then asking for special concessions was ever going to be acceptable. Divorce is divorce you pay your dues and both go your separate ways.

FlorbelaEspanca · 06/07/2026 19:30

Yes: remainer then, rejoiner now.

"Cameron was a total muppet. But we need to get on with it now."

Cameron was forced by his own extremists to hold a referendum, it was Johnson and his cronies that did the real damage promising what was never going to be delivered. Brainless Corbyn sitting on the fence and watching it all happen made it worse.

Why do we elect these idiots.

honestly.. I voted leave, I was very young and struggling in house shares with young Eastern Europeans feeling resentful and feeling they were to blame for the housing crisis.

now I am older, wiser and richer, I am sad I can’t travel freely around Europe.
