What hair/eye colour do your children have with very different-looking parents?

DH and I are expecting our first child and I have always wondered what our child’s colouring will be. I have blue eyes, light blonde hair and fair skin. My mum’s colouring is the same as mine, my dad has light brown hair and grey eyes. My DH has black hair, brown eyes and olive skin. His mum had dark brown hair with hazel eyes and his dad has same colours as DH. I’m so curious I find genetics fascinating!

So my question is, just for fun, do any of you have child(ren) with a partner with completely different colouring to you and did your child take after one parent more than the other?

I have brown hair and eyes. DH has blonde hair and blue eyes. Both of our sons look just like DH except that DS2 has MIL's curly hair.

I have dark Auburn hair, pale skin and freckles with light blue eyes. DH has olive skin, hazel eyes and light brown hair.
Eldest son has really dark brown hair, almost black, and deep brown eyes.
Youngest has blonde hair and bright blue eyes. They're both on the paler side and look like a hint of sun would burn their skin (as it does to my celtic skin), but they both go a golden brown. And they both have freckles on the bridge of the nose, so I'm in there somewhere ☺️

ETA: to properly answer your question. The kids don't particularly look like either of us. Although we do get comments from wider family member. DS1 looks a lot like my Dad, I think, but then I look at him sometimes and can see flashes of DH Grandma.
Weirdly, DS2, is the spitting image of one of my cousins.
Genetics are weird!

Irish and English
My Irish side have a lot of red heads and the my boys hair all turn a little red in the summer esp Ds1

So
Ds3 has my colouring
Ds1 has picked up ancestral colouring
Ds2 has dhs colouring

Daughter takes after me and her dad, the darker Mediterranean & Irish looks, dark hair & olive skin. Her son is blonde and blue eyed like his dad. I thought the darker colouring genes dominated but I guess not always.

My DH has brown eyes and dark brown hair (now grey!)
I have light brown hair and green eyes.
Our 3 DC all have blue eyes and blonde/mouse brown hair.

I’m blonde with blue eyes and my son is mixed race half African so yeah! I’ve had incidences of people not believing or being shocked he’s my son ( seems some people don’t know how genetics works ha ha 🤣)

I'm small, hazel eyes, blonde hair. DH is tall, light blue eyes and dark blond hair (or rather it was many years ago!). DCs 1 & 3 have both taken after DH, but DC2 looks nothing like either of us with dark brown hair and dark brown, almost black eyes - she looks french or northern european. My dad had this colouring, so I imagine it's a throwback to something in our past.

no wonder Ds1s teachers queried our eye colours when he was learning about alleles in biology

My ex and I have similar colouring to you and your DH.

We have one 'mini-me' each.

I have brown hair/eyes but my 3 dc are all blonde with blue eyes.

Dh has brown hair/blue eyes.

I have green eyes auburn hair and now exh has light blue eyes blonde hair

Dd has deep blue eyes and brown hair
Ds has hazel/green eyes that sometimes in different light can look fully green or blue and white blonde hair (now mousey blonde)

Both parents blue eyes me brown hair DH nearly black. One child hazel eyes brown hair one blue eyes blonde hair both dark skinned like parents.

Me: Mid-brown hair, blue eyes, very pale skin
DH: Blonde hair, green/blue eyes, olive skin
DS: Blonde hair, light green eyes, olive skin

I have very dark brown hair, olive skin and hazel eyes.
My partner has blonde hair, paler skin and blue eyes.

One child is like me and one is like my partner in their colouring, but their features like the shape of their eyes, nose and lips make them look alike.

Husband sandy reddish hair, red beard, hazel eyes, very pale skin with pinkish undertones. Me, very dark brown (almost black) hair, bright blue eyes, very pale skin with yellowish undertones.
Son is a complete throwback to my grandfather. Thick dark brown curly hair, not quite Afro, but on the way there. Brown eyes and pale almost blue skin. The one thing we all have in common is we burn as soon as May arrives and need Factor 50 SPF.

Me: slight build, dark skin, dark hair
DH: stocky, pale skin, fair hair
DS: stocky, dark skin, fair hair
DD: slight, pale skin, dark hair

Weirdly, both DH and I have curly hair but both DC have straight hair.

Me - auburn hair, light blue eyes
Husband -Dark brown hair, dark brown eyes, white skin that tans easily
Both children were born with blue eyes, but now have green eyes.

Daughter had white blond hair when young, now light brown.
Son has dark brown hair.

My mum - dark brown hair almost black, brown eyes, dark olive skin (her brother, her dad and my cousins are all this colouring)
my dad - strawberry blonde hair, blue eyes, pale but tans
me - redhead, green eyes, see through pale blue skin!

DH has light brown hair and blue eyes, and very pale skin.
I have reddish blonde hair, brown eyes and skin that tans easily.

DD1 has black hair, green eyes and very pale skin.
DD2 has blonde hair, brown eyes and tans easily.

Both look like my side of the family.

I have mousy hair and green eyes, fair skin.
My ex has dark eyes and hair and tanned brown skin.

DD looks exactly like a female version of her dad.
DS has dark blonde hair pale skin and green eyes. I think his facial features look like his dad though.

Someone once said to me "Well done! You've made a mini me of each of you!" 😂

The genetics of eye colour are very complex. They teach a very oversimplified version in schools.

Don’t worry, it’s perfectly possible for a green and a blue-eyed person, or two blue-eyed people, to have a brown eyed child…as you obviously already know 😁

My DH is blonde and blue eyed and I am very dark with hazel green eyes. Our eldest is a dirty blonde with my eyes, I imagine he’ll go dark when he’s older. Our youngest is ginger with brown eyes and the closest we can trace them back is great great grandparents so you could get anything!

I’m dark brown hair, pale skin and blue eyes and their dad was blonde hair, easily tanned skin and blue eyes and my eldest is blonde blue eyes and tans easily and 2nd is mousy brown, pale and grey eyes.
