I’m worried about the safety of the England fans/ team in Mexico on Sunday…

England are playing Mexico in Mexico this Sunday.

Already this tournament, there have been at least three football-related deaths in Mexico. During the last Mexican match, fans stayed outside the opposing team’s hotel jeering, keeping them awake. Also, Mexico isn’t the safest of places at the best of times.

Basically, I am concerned about the safety of this match… Anyone else?

It is a good reason to be worried considering the history of the cartels but I suppose as long as you aren't stupid it should be fine.

It might be different if there was a hope in hell of England winning. But Mexico has only lost there twice in 60 years, so I think they’re safe!

Hmmmm….

Sorry!

To be fair I was hoping for the best and expecting the worst. They haven't lost in that stadium for years although they have usually played lower ranked teams.

Icanseeasquirrel · 06/07/2026 06:03

What’s fabulous game that was. Agree it’s probably worse to be the spouse of a fan from the losing side. They will be feeling sorry right now.

Hawksie · 06/07/2026 06:31

It doesn't matter if England win or lose, the violence still increases, and it will have been worse this morning as people were drinking from midday.

Working with rough sleepers many of them will have been subject to increased drunken violence overnight and many of them cannot access healthcare as the NHS has some really piss poor attitudes to homelessness.

Looks like the most serious football related accident was brought on by a footballer himself. What a stupid thing to do.

This feels a little performative op. Trying to make it about you. These are adults who are able to manage their own travel and make their own decisions.

DarkForces · 06/07/2026 07:25

No. Why would I worry about an active choice made by other adults? I assume they can risk assess and make their own decisions based on that.

im a British female and live in the heart of Mexico City. Mexico has been nothing but welcoming to all teams. Ecuador was treated the way they were because they done the same to Mexico. Hope this helps. Also The deaths in the city although sad were not violence related either. Mexico is a beautiful country, more so than England hence why I left :)

Mexico is absolutely not “nothing but welcoming”. They kept the English team up al night with their ridiculousness.

It’s an embarrassment.

Never mind the fans what about Jordan Henderson. Injured himself in the aftermath. Needed medical attention and a stretcher.

We’ve met up with friends here, some of whom will travel on to theStates. We’re traveling down to the coast in Oaxaca. We were there last week and the atmosphere was wonderful in the bars for all the games. My mum in England and not a footie fan sent me this.

Oh sounds lovely! More fun to be had!!

Love your new snoopy!

Did you find a t shirt?

How did DH & mates find the atmosphere at/after the game??
