Anyone planning on going to a pub to watch ? I won’t be, not a drinker plus toddlers to get up with !

We went to the pub to watch the opening Scotland game - similar kick off time. Enjoyed it as a one off

Myfridgeiscool · 02/07/2026 22:25

If the loon with the voovoozela is parping away in the pub at that time in the morning I am going to be very pissed off, it was bad enough at midnight.

Whoops75 · 02/07/2026 22:26

My daughter told me today of the domestic violence statistics around England games.
I hope the pubs stay closed

rainbowsparkle28 · 02/07/2026 22:29

My first thought was well this is going to bode well for the idiots and thugs out there if we lose 🙄 After an entire day’s drinking probably and no sleep…(and I say this as a football fan generally!)

hahabahbag · 02/07/2026 22:30

I won’t be going as really not that bothered and our 2 nearest pubs aren’t staying open, they don’t think enough people are interested to stay open

Thecows · 02/07/2026 22:32

Not sure I'd want to be on the roads Mon morning tbh....

FWC2026 · 02/07/2026 22:37

No. I have had some health issues & am on medication so can't drink & wouldn't be the same, besides I feel too crap.

I hope lots of people do& have a brilliant time!!

It’s not as if it’s the final and people don’t have TVs at home. I live near two pubs and it is going to be so noisy if they stay open. Also, why 5am? Kick them out when the game ends ffs.

✨lighten up✨. It’s a very exciting one off and will be fun for lots of people.

ErrolTheDragon · 03/07/2026 00:00

It sounds like a truly terrible idea to me. Maybe wouldn’t be so bad if they could stay open for people to watch the game together on big screens and a bit afterwards but not serve alcohol for all that time.

I’m thinking they’re allowing for extra time and penalties. Plus an hour to celebrate if we win ?

Yeah it’s pretty bloody awful.

i work in substance misuse services, particularly in support of those being impacted by someone else’s use and the referrals rocket during and following events such as sports. Really sad.

That makes sense - I suppose the plan is to allow time for an orderly, staggered exit of people so they can walk home and sleep, having sensibly booked the day off work.

Well, that’s the theory. In reality, England could lose after 90 minutes having been shafted all the way through by a team more acclimatised to the altitude, and everyone is grumpy and far too hot and tired and fractious, and it’s too far to walk and there’s no cabs and they’ve got to take the kids to school before they can go to sleep because that was the deal with the other half and bollocks to all of it and that acclimatisation thing was just cheating basically, let’s face it …

ThisSillyPoet · 03/07/2026 06:38

They can but a lot won’t. Our local is in a row of terraced cottages and won’t be staying open out of respect for their neighbors.
DH is determined to find somewhere 🙄he doesn’t work Mondays so no getting to work issues. I start work at 5am so I won’t be joining him and may have gone out by the time he gets home!

If it’s a draw at full time, it’s extra tone and penalties! It may take quite a while longer than anticipated, much nearer to 5am than you may think.

Hopefully if it’s just 90 mins, people will leave then anyway.

It is a bit mad. Dh isn’t even sure he’s going to wake up and watch it and has no plans to go to the pub, he usually watches with ds. They went to the pub together for the first one for a bit of atmosphere and excitement but they’ve watched the other games at home. Ds said he’s not getting up to watch at 1am. He is 14 and if he wanted to wake up we’d not have a problem with it in theory but as someone said, if it does go to extra time etc it’s gonna be a hell of a lot more than just 2 hours of sleep lost.

Ibi · 03/07/2026 06:58

I think it sounds fun and if I didn’t work Mondays I’d go along.

howdoidoitalone · 03/07/2026 07:05

I’m genuinely so glad I don’t live with the misery that a lot of mumsnet does.

I live directly opposite a pub, literally across the road. They screen the matches in their garden. I will get no sleep then have to go to work and look after sick and vulnerable children. If you would be fine with your children if they were very unwell, being cared for by health professionals who are too tired to safely do their job then I’ll lighten up. There are a few things that are more important than football. I will be objecting to the council that they are allowing this in pubs in residential areas. Pubs in town centres is fine. But it is ridiculous that it is suddenly fine to completely disrupt the lives of entire streets.

So? They’ll cope for one day.

Earplugs and eye masks exist. You have three days to get some.
