A quiet and friendly corner of MN to share the very dull day to day happenings of our lives. No criticisms, political discussions, or controversies here. Think of it as neighbors (I'm a Yank) chatting over the garden fence or having a cup of tea while the kids play together. Everyone is welcome.

It will be calming for all.

I just finished a series on Netflix called The Last Ship and am looking for something new to watch. The first episode of Ride or Die on Amazon Prime was very good. It's set in London and stars Hannah Waddingham. I loved her in Ted Lasso, which returns on 5 August. I can't wait.

We've had five inches of rain in the last 24 hours, with more expected tonight. At least it's cooled things off. We were in a rain deficit, but I expect this storm has solved that problem. It rained so hard overnight it kept waking me up, and the cats did not care for the thunder at all.

Welcome to the teetotal club, Myrtle.

It was 34C here and as there's a sparrowhawk about we decided to spend 3 hours in the garden so the silkies could go out safely. I collected leaves and fallen apples at a slow rate as so hot but it was nice to do it with singing silkies. DH spent an impressive 3 hours cleaning one metal table and its 4 chairs which wasn't that dirty to start with, it was impressively slow.

I still have to watch Below Deck. Having a ploughman's for dinner and then a banana split with Kelly's clotted cream ice cream. It's much more reasonable temperatures rest of week.

I ordered a battery powered sander and battery unit and DH collected it, they were on offer reduced from £125 to £50.

We had a lovely day and I drank 0% beer, but DH is quite drunk. And though I’ve been around drunk people when sober, and he is a big softie, he is quite dull at this point.

He has had a good day though.

I've got hand sander and drill kits and they're battery-powered. Love them. 👍

That's great @MyrtleLion 🤗

I'm your opposite here. Wide awake. Slept about 45mins then Baby was having a night terror which woke me up and I haven't been able to get back to sleep. I also stupidly accepted a one cent charge on my credit card to open pics I was sent on a platform I didn't know, which took me to some sort of gaming site. I thought it was a pop up ad. 🤦‍♀️
Anyway... 😵‍💫 I locked my card and called the security line and reported after I saw an email welcoming me to the site and advising my card would be charged $77.99 if I didn't unsub. Obv I clicked to unsub. That seemed sketchy. So obv I emailed to unsub. 🤦‍♀️
Got emails back saying I'm not subbed. 🤷‍♀️
Credit Card security must think I'm an idiot....but, they've blocked further charges

and I need to phone them again during the day.

And I emailed the sender of the pics to re-send on another platform. 🤞

It's now after 4am. 😵‍💫

Your card fiasco was the opposite to mine @Mumtobabyhavoc . The bank phoned me to say I’d been scammed and they cancelled my card and issued a new one and flagged up the site id been on. I hope you are getting more sleep now. I dozed off in the middle of the sewing bee programme and woke to find out who was leaving. I watched the middle bit this morning.

We’ve been watching “Ride or Die”, with Hannah Waddingham and Octavia Spencer, on Amazon Prime. It’s a thriller/comedy series and I’d recommend it to anyone. It’s great to see ladies of a certain age in an action series!

I watched the Kylie one too but was in tears at the end. I hadn’t realised how cruel the media were to her at the beginning of her career.

I had to take one of my wraps off today. I think it wasn’t on correctly and my leg started to swell and hurt. It brought me to tears, as my hip was hurting, my leg was burning and I was really tired. It just got to me, but I’m ok now.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 29/07/2026 22:01

Bank isn't changing my card. Just took notes about how it all unfolded, website, that I'd unsubbed and emailed the company, which I might add is a requirement by the bank even though I told them my info is likely going on the dark web now and I'l get even more phishing emails. 😠
They said to unblock my card and monitor charges; that if I get any unusual debits they will ask the company to remove them or request credit card co to get involved. 🙄
It puts a lot of responsibility on me.

bizzey · 29/07/2026 22:55

Very cross that the Bbc are not putting Blankey Blank or Celeb mastermind back on Tv anymore ..😕😡😠.

BB was a fun , easy to watch Saturday night program.
No difficult story lines , no death , no guns ...just proper laughing !

I loved mastermind as well...to see how clever I was .

BBC are doing something very wrong !!!!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 29/07/2026 23:11

Havoc watching Paw Patrol and eating a sandwich:

This is the best sandwich I have ever had!
I love it!

Finishes and says, That. Was. Beautiful.

😂

It was chicken salad with green grapes in a whole wheat pita and the first time I had made it for Havoc. As I was making it, chopped chicken/mayo/chopped grapes, I did say, This will blow your mind. 😁
Job done. 🙌

MrsSPenguinz · 30/07/2026 14:22

So sorry about your leg @Umanresources Hope its all sorted now.

Glad Havoc loved his sandwich @Mumtobabyhavoc it does sound delicious.

I'm also a Blankety Blank fan @bizzey

Just done another couple of hours gardening with DH so silkies can go out due to sparrowhawk and collected more leaves, watered plants and lawn and mowed lawn.

bizzey · 30/07/2026 18:44

A hopeful looking sky tonight 🤞🤞🤞...

Hi, all.
Tiring day today.
I expected a 1-hour med appt at the hosp for my mum this morning and we were there for 3 hours.
It's just about 2:30pm, both dc are asleep, my mum is in her room for a nap, as well, and with any luck I will, too.

Had to Google Blankety Blank. 😂

sproutsandparsnips · 30/07/2026 22:41

Just catching up after being away. We had a lovely time on a cruise around Europe, mainly islands. Visited Malta, Sicily, Sardinia, Mallorca, Corsica. Went from Barcelona. Got back yesterday early hours and was working today so not much time to get washing done. Six loads at the last count.
@Umanresourcesmy dad used to tell me that joke too!
sorry about interview @MyrtleLion
@bizzeydid you get rain?
we do not as yet have a hosepipe ban -we have a kind of fabric pipe which doesn’t kink.
While we were gone the tomatoes really started ripening, I love tomatoes so much. Had some lovely food away, then had goats cheese and prosciutto salad last night….

Gorgeous pics, Sprouts. Glad you had such a nice time. 💕😍🤗

bizzey · 31/07/2026 00:23

@sproutsandparsnips nienta , nada , zero , ....it was just a big fat tease 🤣!

mathanxiety · 31/07/2026 03:38

Lots of posts to catch up on - we had a power outage after a massive storm but all is well now. I resisted the habit of opening the fridge or freezer and everything inside survived. I have a gas stove top so was able to cook.

They've installed pedestrian crossing lights at the nearest intersection, a long overdue improvement, and it looks as if they're also gearing up to finally resurface the street my alley opens onto. It has been a potholey mess for many years. No doubt they'll wait until the first week of school to rip it all up. The nearby high school reopens for business in mid August.

Themidnightcuppa · 31/07/2026 05:54

we had rain. Hurrah. So funny to be happy about lots of rain. Well, when I say lots it was about 30 minutes worth but it did chuck it down. My car said the temperature was 33.5 yesterday at one point so it was positively welcome.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 31/07/2026 09:20

We recently had a good rain here, too. The lettuce in my garden is thriving and I'm picking some for my salads every other day. It's so easy to grow.

I had the kids out to the outdoor movie showing downtown tonight, Wicked for Good.
Performers were acting out the musical parts and it was quite good! There audience participation, ie glow sticks handed out in one part and we waved them at the appropriate time. It was fun. 🤗
We didn't stay until the end as kids were tired, Baby esp, so I packed it up at 11pm. We popped over to the Hotel Vancouver to use the washroom and play in the revolving door about midway through the movie and I took a pic of one of the Dior windows. Also a pic from the movie. Enlarge to see the actors.

Glad you had a lovely holiday @sproutsandparsnips and great photos.

Glad you had a nice night out with the kids @Mumtobabyhavoc

We had a lovely time at the vineyard. DH said to me would you like it if we took my classic car. So we went in his classic car as he loves it and vineyard isn't far. We had a tea / coffee then an hour and an half tour of vineyard which was fascinating especially with heatwave differences, it was a retirement project and 8 to 10 years before first wine. They have to prune 26,000 vines each year and have a day each year where you can volunteer to pick grapes and you get a nice lunch. We have signed up for that. Then we had the sparkling wine tasting in their marquee which wasn't until 12pm so quite civilised in the end and then we had a seafood plate each with homemade bread and butter followed by local ice creams. We then went on to a plant shop and got a few plants for the garden. Lovely day out and DH was so happy to be in his car.

@MrsSPenguinz gosh that meal looks fabulous. Love the car as well. That must have been a brilliant day and hopefully the plants will be a great reminder of the day.

Those photos of your holiday look gorgeous @sproutsandparsnips The moon on the water is stunning. We used to grow tomatoes in our little lean to shed years ago and they always tasted so fresh. Every year I kept thinking I should grow some in the grow bags and I forget!

DD is making cottage pie for tonight’s meal, although it’s hot again, but we are a bit saladed out at the moment. We have got a lovely cold glass of wine though.

@Mumtobabyhavoc hope you are managing to get more sleep now.

MrsSPenguinz · 31/07/2026 19:09

Thanks @Umanresources Cottage pie sounds lovely, we are also a bit saladed and ploughmaned out here so having sausage, mash, onions, broccoli and gravy.

The paint delivery has arrived so DH has just collected it though he has 2 boxes and they told me it was 3 so just checking it's all there.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 31/07/2026 23:42

La voiture est superbe! 😍
Looks like a great day out. 🤗🤗🤗

Glass of wine sounds nice all around. 🥂

I'm sitting having an iced latte at home after being on the go from 9:40am when I woke up to someone at the door. Med supplies were being delivered. I had over-slept - we all had after being up late. I wasn't asleep until 2:30am. So, it was a rush to get my mum on her IV, get kids fed, changed, teeth brushed; me trying to have a coffee and toast; me trying to get dressed; get my mum off IV; put everything away and get kids to dentist by 1:30pm. Throw the towels in the wash. We just made it and only because of luck there was an available parking spot on the street 2 blocks away. 😅
Kids were great at the dentist! 🤗 So, a treat of french fries by a lovely fountain after the appt was in order. 🙂
Baby just went to toilet on own accord and did a #2. 🙌

Temp is now 26c and it's sunny.
I'm on my 2nd iced latte with a piece of lemon-blueberry coffee cake. It has a crumble top. 😋

MrsSPenguinz · 01/08/2026 10:05

What an amazing Mum and daughter you are @Mumtobabyhavoc to be looking after all that.

DH loves that car so much, he keeps it in a garage and yesterday went to take it back to its garage and get fuel but he left his phone in car so had to go back again. The car he said was struggling with the new fuel so he's back out there this morning. He said it might have been bad fuel but I think it's far more likely that car wasn't built for heat. Hopefully planting the plants today and clearing leaves, also researching shed roof options.

sueelleker · 01/08/2026 17:31

My rescue spaniel is having terrible trouble with burrs in her coat-she won't let me groom her, and my mobile groomer has only been able to manage the basics before she gets too worked up. But it has to be done, so I've booked an appointment; and found a calming supplement that's supposed to work within 30 minutes. I've ordered a pack, and will keep my fingers crossed.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 01/08/2026 19:36

Poor pup, Sue. Hope all goes well with the combing. 🤞
What year/make/model is the car Penguins?

Thanks for the support. 💕
Got my mum on IV #1 right now, coffee is made, pancakes on the griddle and had Havoc to activity earlier this morning. It was raining, but that has stopped. It's 16c.

Come and tell us your dull and unexciting news 36: Calmly through the day
MrsSPenguinz · 01/08/2026 22:03

Hope that works @sueelleker If not the vet maybe able to help.

Pancakes look lovely @Mumtobabyhavoc Hope your Mums IV goes as well as it can. The car is a Talbot 10 from the 1930s.

DH went out to water the garden and pick up more leaves. We had burgers with corn on the cob for dinner and I had a milkshake made with ice cream.
