A quiet and friendly corner of MN to share the very dull day to day happenings of our lives. No criticisms, political discussions, or controversies here. Think of it as neighbors (I'm a Yank) chatting over the garden fence or having a cup of tea while the kids play together. Everyone is welcome.

It will be calming for all.

Myrtle, there is no way I'd be able to pull off that kind of drinking. I'd be 🤮🛌💤by midnight.

I'm so very tired here. Not enough sleep last night and a full day today.

Uman, bison and buffalo are similar animals. Bison are N American, Buffalo are African and Asian. I've had buffalo milk cheese, but not meat. People call bison, buffalo here occasionally, and in the States often, but it is incorrect and a hold-over from early explorers. 🤓
I prefer eating bison to beef. Was cooking beef burgers a while ago, I had forgotten it wasn't bison, and I was wondering what the smell was, "why does this stink?" Then I checked the package and saw it was beef. 😂
I've had kangaroo as well and found it too rich after a few bites. Elk too strong. Alligator many years ago (similar to chicken, so what's the point?). And moose, properly hunted, which is by far the best as in, Best Steak of Your Life. Hunting moose for us is cultural and common up north, ie in the Yukon, which is where I had it. Typically, 2-3 families can share one for a year.

It's hazy here from wildfire smoke. It's 21c.

Your talk of food and names reminded me of one holiday.
We were in Gozo and decided to try this newly opened restaurant. All good except one dish on the menu was aborigine- we guessed they meant aubergine/ eggplant. 🤣🤣

It was our wedding anniversary yesterday - 23 years. Normally we both forget and my brother reminds me (he’s better at dates!) but we did remember this time and went out for dinner at our local Italian. DH had steak and I had a quattro formaggi pizza, which was nice but large.
We walked home through a lovely evening - photo of nice sunset attached.

Today we’ve been emulating @MrsSPenguinz doing loads of work in the garden - I had to stop cutting back overgrown foliage as I filled both our green bins. DH has been building a wooden gate to replace the one in our bin area and has bought both a fancy table saw and a snazzy new drill for the purpose. He’s extremely content pottering about doing this kind of handiwork - I can always tell when he starts doing a particular sort of tuneless but happy whistling. I pointed this out to him and he looked rather dubious, but it’s true.
Just about to have a shower now as I’m so hot and sticky after my labours.

@MrsSPenguinz My DSiL went to the Sandringham Flower Show yesterday but she didn’t say if she’d bought any plants though.

Another video chat with grandsons in the Azores again last night. It’s been great sharing their stories about their adventures. They are going to call again tonight 😄

I got my leg and foot wraps today. What a performance putting them on. My OH has to do them for me. I asked for the beige coloured leg wraps, which I got, but have black foot ones and grey socks. Oh my, it’s a good job my dresses are long and hide everything!

MrsSPenguinz · 26/07/2026 17:31

Happy wedding anniversary @HildaTablet Glad you had a lovely day and beautiful sunset back.

That's lovely with the calls from the Azores @Umanresources I love the Azores. Ryanair did do a direct flight from here which was excellent but stopped it penny pinching but am hoping they start it again. I would love to go to Flores.

Hope you can catch up on sleep @Mumtobabyhavoc

We had a lovely day at Sandringham. The parking was a long walk away but it was free and through nice countryside then went to flower show which was quite spread out. I got a sparkling elderflower, DH got an iced tea with ice cream in. Then looked round more flower show. I had booked Sunday lunch at the Sandringham estate for which we had to exit the flower show and get a stamp to return. We went round the shop then to the restaurant for Sunday lunch. Both had roast pork with apple sauce, Yorkshire, roast potatoes, cabbage, carrots, broccoli. I had an apple juice and DH had a beer. Then we went for a cake with outdoor tables with sunflowers on in aid of the Sandringham church, I had victoria sponge, DH had lemon drizzle. We then went round the little church and back into the flower show and now back home. DS as expected has eaten quite a few ice cream and just got another as I typed this.

I have another one from yesterday, I'm currently suffering with really itchy skin, got some cream to use on it. I was putting it on my arms and my youngest (10) asks if I need help putting it on my back, told him yes so he put it on my back for me 🥰

mathanxiety · 27/07/2026 01:00

It's been hot and humid today, and the locusts are in fine voice in the trees this evening. Dcat has been stretching out on the tiled bathroom floor. I feel like joining her.

MissConductUS · 27/07/2026 17:57

Happy Anniversary, Hilda. Your dinner out sounds lovely. DH has the date for our anniversary in his Apple calendar so that he won't forget it. We just had our 29th.

I had to Google Sandringham, then realized that I've seen the estate on TV before. It's a country retreat for the Royals, isn't it? There is certainly a lot to see and do there.

inkedgirl, a few years ago I was having chronic itching on my back. I went to the dermatologist for it. He eventually concluded that it was neuropathic and gave me gabapentin for it, which I don't care for. It eventually went away on it's own.

The HVAC company has finally determined why our new AC unit is intermittently shutting down. There's a temperature sensor that thinks the unit is overheating when it isn't. Since it's under warranty, they have to get the part from the manufacturer, which may take a few days. We still have cooling; it's just an inconvenience to have to restart it when it happens.

DS has texted that he's back from Pennsylvania and wants to come over for dinner, so DH made reservations at a local restaurant we all like.

The echinacea in the front garden is flowering, and my zinnias on the deck are about four feet tall. I'm getting four or five heirloom cherry tomatoes per day, but the bigger heirloom beefsteak tomatoes aren't anywhere near ripe yet.

I had a job interview that didn’t go well, including my camera not working so they couldn’t see me. Unsurprisingly I didn’t get another interview.

I have been using a weighted blanket for a few nights but it is so heavy I don’t think I can turn over in my sleep. I’ve had less than three hours sleep for the last three nights. I am also now on medication for ADHD which probably isn’t helping. I’m reverting to the usual covers and hopefully will see better tonight.

Themidnightcuppa · 27/07/2026 21:19

The maze of maze was sunflowers and the crop failed so no maze but the play area had a sandpit which went down a storm and the bumpy ride train was very fun for the little ones. Ouch my bottom.

today we went on a little train for miles to Dungeness and had fish and chips and walked the pebble beach to see the sea. Hadn’t done it for years. Nice to find it unchanged.

liftingprincess · 28/07/2026 06:02

I found a decent pen at work with no owner so I helpfully gave it a new home in my pocket

MyrtleLion · 28/07/2026 11:30

I slept! 7.5 hours straight through. Then another hour.

I’m having an easy day today.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 28/07/2026 12:04

That's great @MyrtleLion 🤗

I'm your opposite here. Wide awake. Slept about 45mins then Baby was having a night terror which woke me up and I haven't been able to get back to sleep. I also stupidly accepted a one cent charge on my credit card to open pics I was sent on a platform I didn't know, which took me to some sort of gaming site. I thought it was a pop up ad. 🤦‍♀️
Anyway... 😵‍💫 I locked my card and called the security line and reported after I saw an email welcoming me to the site and advising my card would be charged $77.99 if I didn't unsub. Obv I clicked to unsub. That seemed sketchy. So obv I emailed to unsub. 🤦‍♀️
Got emails back saying I'm not subbed. 🤷‍♀️
Credit Card security must think I'm an idiot....but, they've blocked further charges

and I need to phone them again during the day.

And I emailed the sender of the pics to re-send on another platform. 🤞

It's now after 4am. 😵‍💫

MrsSPenguinz · 28/07/2026 20:12

Yes Sandringham is the country estate of the royals @MissConductUS The flower show was in the grounds, the house was closed but we ate at the restaurant Sunday lunch and the church was open. The royals are often photographed at that church at Easter. That sounds lovely to have dinner with your DS.

Sorry about job interview @MyrtleLion but glad you had a good sleep.

Hope you managed to get some sleep @Mumtobabyhavoc

29C here today and 34C tomorrow before going to more reasonable temperatures later in week. We just spent 3.5 hours cleaning the kitchen, we have now managed to clean hob from DD getting a scale burnt on to it though its slightly chipped, and cleaned the floor, then cleaned the silkies and cleared leaves and watered garden. Also a sparrowhawk had eaten a pigeon so we had to clear that, just the feathers.

Cat went to vets yesterday and was sedated but is fine now and full of life. Watched Netflix A Toxic Love Story and The Crash, Should I Marry a Murderer and Kylie - will now add Below Deck to my quality viewing.

Glad it eventually went away. My doctor thinks it could be down to low iron as ive also got low energy and my iron levels tend to drop from time to time anyway. Got a blood test friday and hopefully get the results the following week

Thank you, at least I don’t have to work in that field. It is a bit dull.

That is a lot of TV. Was that all in one day? I would love to have the attention span to do it.

MrsSPenguinz · 28/07/2026 20:32

Kylie programme I watched pre holiday then the others about one every other day.

I watched Kylie with my DH. We both loved it,

MrsSPenguinz · 28/07/2026 21:06

Yes Kylie one was really interesting.

LBFseBrom · 28/07/2026 21:19

I too liked the Kylie programme, I like her.

So, I finally fell asleep around 5:30am and was up by 8:30 getting the kids breakfast. I tried to go back to sleep after that but to no avail. It was a rough day, but after a med appt I took the kids to a motor cycle dealership that has a motor cycle museum with motorcycles over 100 years old. It was something different for the kids to do and quite interesting.
We had a late lunch then I forced everyone to nap and Shut. It. Down. I slept 2.5 hrs and the kids slept 3. I did a quick Costco shop and we had a late dinner then went to the airport park and watched planes and admired the moon.

Miss, pain about the a/c. Glad you'll have dinner with your ds.
Penguins. You are def keeping busy.

Loving the tv chat. I watched docs on Pope Francis and Angela Merkel this past weekend.

Motor cycle museum sounds nice @Mumtobabyhavoc Will be an easy day here as 34C today. Then there's a week of 24 to 26 which will be lovely though no rain so will need to be out in garden but love being in garden.

MyrtleLion · 29/07/2026 13:20

Having a day out in our home town. Finally went to the house of an historic famous person. We've lived here for five years and only just got round to it.

The original plan was to combine this with day drinking, but I'm off booze and coffee with these ADHD meds. So we are day drinking but my beer is 0%.
