Thinking about it, isn’t it interesting (if I’m remembering correctly) that neither The Good Life or To The Manor Born ever decided to throw a spanner in the works about the female leads being mothers/wanting kids/producing a long lost nephew or niece for them to parent? Everyone was squarely in their late 30s/early 40s and kids unmentioned. There’s an idea lol! (admittedly I did ponder who would inherit the manor after Audrey Grin)

Ever Decreasing Circles in the 80s was the same. Neither couple had kids or made any mention of regretting it or "not being blessed" as was so often featured in scripts.

I don’t really remember TGL but TTMB was a big part of my childhood. I always remember the episode where they got married. I wish they would show the series again.

A few years back I was in a long queue for gin at Festival No.6 at Portmeirion. Penelope zoomed up in a golf cart, went straight to the front of the queue, trilling “sorry darlings, I’m gasping”. No one minded, we were all in the presence of the queen of G&Ts.

DH was watching some episodes of that recently. I hated it and Richard Briers' character was insufferable.

I seem to recall there was a very brief mention of Tom and Barbara not having children in one episode (although I could be making that up), but I think the show was all the better for not having any in it.

Did anyone see the documentary about the making of TGL a while back? It was brilliant - well worth a watch.

Love Penelope Keith! Such a warm, funny, intelligent and kind woman; a great loss. I love the Good Life and Margot- so many incredible lines. I remember the drunken sense of humour convo with Tom - ‘I’m a woman without a sense of humour….’ And then that incredible laugh when the others fall whilst moving the arbour. Such an infectious laugh.

The thing that always saddens me is that she said things a few times that suggested she did not consider herself to be attractive. I think she was gorgeous and elegant. I know all the men wanted Barbara but I was all Margot!

You dancer! I had completely forgotten about the anniversary special when I re-watched it during lockdown. Was it good? Or should I leave it with the OG ending, which was a total classic imo
