Piers Morgan stating Farage is dead in the water to Victoria Derbyshire

PM: "I think this £5,000,000 bung he took from this cr*pto tycoon in Thailand -"

VD "-He describes it as a personal gift."

PM: "I described it as a bung"

Interesting reading of the runes about a snap election.

Weirdly, a snap election with a hung parliament could be the best outcome possible for the UK. Even better than no election until 2029 and a second Labour term. (Sorry if that runs counter to the ""everyone on this thread is a Labour stooge" narrative some posters would like to be true).

The aim is to try and pressure attractions into scrapping concessions. Threads like that will be the testing of the waters. Be prepared for councils run by Reform to make it their business to try to strong arm attractions in their authority to abandon concessions under penalty of a visit and endorsement by Farage himself.

"Nice amusement park you have there. It would be a shame id a massive right wing racist grifter were to visit and endorse you ....."

Its at least the third thread albeit this one is rather behind the curve. I agree the posting isn't in good faith.

Efacsen · 28/06/2026 15:33

One thing I agree with Dan Hodges about - Farage does look 'rough' these days - he's more or less the same age as Starmer and only 6 years older than Burnham

IDK maybe all that hate has prematurely aged him

I can personally guarantee that any privately run attraction that offers concessions do so because they have determined that it maximises their profits. Whether directly, by increasing footfall and driving turnover, or indirectly by getting them wider promotion for free. It's the free market in operation.

They didn't even get the cost right
Book online and you don't pay for parking.Clearly they have internet access so cost for 2 is £66, not the total quoted.

I will be honest, the fact to posting ration on such threads rarely makes them educational.

And with the overall political balance at Shire Hall being particularly delicate, it means that Restore's four members could hold the balance of power in full council votes.

Reform has often relied on the support of nine Conservative councillors – or at least some of them – to win full council votes in the past year but even with a full house of Reform, Tory and supportive independent councillors, leader Councillor George Finch (Reform UK, Bedworth Central) can now only get to 28 votes – 29 represents a majority.

DuncinToffee · 28/06/2026 16:00

Finch is in a bit of bother about a Facebook post he made. Somehow he manages to find himself in those situations on a regular basis.

I have thought he's been looking rough for a while now, despite the tan.

Why do you think that a hung parliament would be a good thing, given Reform would have the most number of seats if current polls are correct?

dapsnotplimsolls · 28/06/2026 16:14

I hope Burnham isn't so convinced of his own greatness that he actually does call a snap election!

If you follow the polls (which isn't a given) and get a hung parliament, even as the largest party (which isn't a given, especially since June 18th) the mathematics make a right wing coalition - certainly a stable one - unlikely.

Much more likely is a progressive coalition to achieve a majority. And you can bet your bottom dollar the very first thing would address is electoral reform. Which all parties will have in their manifesto.

As you may have divined, I am quite keen on electoral reform. Maybe due to 50 years of DM wanting it. Being, as she was, a natural Liberal.

Hmm. I think it is very likely Badenoch, despite her protestations, would abandon all her morals and help Reform out. That would make the numbers work.

I agree we need electoral reform.

I thought we needed disruption ?

Personally I'd weigh the odds of Burnham being able to deliver in the next 3 years against a deeply partisan press and the nagging question of legitimacy and the expected rise of Reform very carefully against a lightening fast election that Reform and their elk are ill prepared for.

It seems to be slowly dawning on some, that the strategy of focusing on personalities in Labour, may not have been the best course if it turns out that "Labours" unpopularity was really just a reaction to the incessant media focus on people over policies. Hence the immediate boost in polling with Starmer going.

Wouldn't be at all surprised if Burnham decided on a referendum to rejoin the EU.

It's not going to happen.

I know it's a radical idea, but how about we never have another referendum ever again, and instead fix the broken electoral system that makes people think we need them.

The Brexit referendum proved that the UK is incapable of dealing with them. Maybe if it had been a proper referendum, rather than a Tory poundshop knock-off, I'd feel differently. But we are where we are.

Neo-nazis and fascists who have made Restore Britain their home are in turmoil after Rupert Lowe’s post-Makerfield lurch toward respectability – but most are still clinging on, convinced their men remain ‘at the top table’

The alternative vote referendum was an absolute shambles - no surprise as Nick Clegg capitulated to the Tories. There's plenty of opportunities for it to happen post 2029. With a proper grown up discussion about it

The first referendum to join the EU was a resounding yes to join. 2nd referendum was almost 50/50 and has serious issues surrounding it. Couldn't it be possible to make it three goes?

OP posts:

The first referendum to join the EU was a resounding yes to join.

Er, it wasn't.

We had already joined. The 1975 referendum was on whether we should remain.

Yes. We joined without a referendum. Weird.

If you wanted another referendum then 1993 would have been the inflection point. When the EEC became the EC.

Anyway, our electoral system hasn't evolved to manage referenda. They exist only to allow weak party leaders to avoid jeopardy. (Which is part of their job).
