The UK didn’t exist in the time of Henry V.

Might want to revise your history and geography.

Did England go as far as Paris? I thought it was just Brittany...

Slough, Harlow and Newport, South Wales

I was born in Harlow. Moved away now though, do go and visit family on occasions. It's not like it used to be!

It's a shame really. As it could be a nice place by spending a lot of money on the place.
Town centre is a dump sadly now

Sorry I was skim reading the thread and my tired brain read this as 'Some imaginary parts of London'

That would be a very different discussion 😃

😂

deste · Today 13:31

Loved Belfast quite liked Oban but Greenock was a dump.

Saurus72 · Today 13:33

The ones that spring to mind include: Liverpool, Rhyl, Scunthorpe, Lakeside shopping centre, Manchester city centre - had never seen people passing out in public loos in the middle of the day after taking (right term?) spice before - Slough, Luton, Northampton, Bedford, Bradford. Overall, the thing they have in common is they’re filthy and felt quite threatening and/or dark and depressing. V fortunate not to have lived in any.

Pinkclarko · Today 13:34

Google laughing clown Blackpool. It sums up everything about the place that freaked me out as a child 😄

the thing actually burned down but the head survived. Definitely possessed.

PleaseStopEatingMyStuff · Today 13:38

Another vote for Blackpool. Human crap in the boarded up shop doorways. Absolute hell hole.

Harlow would run Slough close for the title of "Worst southern town in England"

Dungeness. Famous for being the UK's only officially classified desert, it features a stark shingle landscape dotted with abandoned fishing boats, distinctive wooden houses, two lighthouses, and the imposing Dungeness nuclear power stations. I felt really depressed when I went there.

I love Dungeness. It’s a bit other worldly and has an end of the world feel, especially in winter. There are a couple of famous writers that live there and some unique coastal flora.

Jaywick has always been dire

Peterborough is awful.

Boston , Lincolnshire. The whole area stinks of fart for two months every August / September due to the rotting cabbage and cauliflowers etc in the fields . Highest rate of obesity in the UK and high rate of consanguinity ) inbreeding aka cousin fucking. It’s a special place ….

We used to go there frequently 30 years ago. I liked the architecture and the marketplace, and there were a lot of nice small shops. Totally different feel now. Lots of incomers so I suppose that's injected some genetic variety!

Louisa58 · Today 13:47

Yeovil in Somerset. Grew up there. No better now. Dull dull dull.

GellerYeller · Today 13:47

Some town in Norfolk that was stuck in a bygone era, and not in a good way. All the businesses belonged to someone called Roy, and looked very outdated, so it was ‘Toymaster by Roy’ etc. on most of the signs on the high street. Truly bizarre. The ambience wasn’t helped by being hosted by DP’s arsehole friend who promoted it to us it as ‘a really fancy day out’. Maybe that clouded my opinion a bit.

Continuing this theme, Tadcaster in Yorkshire. Looks like a pretty town with a river and a high street full of independents but had lots of boarded up shops. Many of the pubs looked like they should have been condemned years ago. We had been at a wedding nearby in the most beautiful old house so thought we’d make a weekend of it.

Is Saltaire technically in Bradford? Gorgeous place.

StarryGazeyEyes · Today 13:54

Some places can be run down but not necessarily unpleasant - I think it's the interactions with people that really affect how you feel about a place; lots of South Wales is deprived but friendly.

I recently stayed in Birmingham on my own and wanted to like it - I live rurally and usually love a bit of big city living for a few days, but it was mildly terrifying. I also have to agree with the comments on Bournemouth - lived there years ago and it was bad enough then. I think it's almost worse because it seems to think it is so much better - a real juxtaposition between the haves and have nots. Poole was a much better place to live.

It depends what you mean by "genetic variety"?
It's full of Eastern Europeans now who get drunk in the street on hooch and pee in peoples' front gardens.
There are very few English shops left. Most food shops sell types of pickled cabbage and horsemeat sausages. I left 4 years ago but my friends say it has got worse, most want to move to Skegness, so it must be bad !

GoneWithTHeWindJammers · Today 13:58

Marlow for the people. A beautiful town, the newcomers to Marlow are dire snobs.

Absolutely love Morecambe.

Purplebunnie · Today 14:00

@Excellentsausages Bexhill is much better than Hastings

Brighton is a weird place, can be good can be bad, just depends

Blaenau Ffestiniog

Fort William needs to get rid of the 60s/70s shops. Campbeltown was a bit depressing

Oban - love Oban.

Never liked Birmingham around 18:00 when the birds came back into the city, really weird atmosphere.

Bideford - everything shuts at 15:00, just a weird place

@user293948849167 Bath is worth a visit if only for the Baths and the Abbey. Use the park and ride, it's quite cheap.

Feetballislife · Today 14:03

Bognor, right wing backwater and an absolute dump.

Yes! Forgot Peterborough!

The cathedral is definitely worth a visit but otherwise it's rather a depressing place.

Rhyl must have been bad as it was listed twice!

I took my son to Rhyl about 30 years ago. We had to walk through the centre to get to the campsite - I was so scared. Found it very intimidating.
@Favouritefruits it doesn't bother me when people call Manchester. I love living in Manchester - so much going on, and the people are ( mostly!) wonderful.

southerngirl10 · Today 14:10

I didn't realise how much Brighton is disliked until I met locals who live outside of it. I live here but on the 'saner' outskirts. When I came here I met lots of locals who resented the incomers, but were helpless to stop them.

It is getting more ridiculous and and unhinged. So many people shouting and marching for any cause possible - like last weeks leftie march against those nasty racists, when the lefties were even nastier.

If you try and have a counter argument about anything, they get Flat Boy Slim to appear then have a party and defeat you with love and hugs.

Thing is Brighton and it's super luvvie sister, Hove, seems to live in this bubble of love that continues as long as those they protesting for don't live anywhere near them.

That said, if I look the other way, I quite like it. The fairy tale for some has lasted so far, I wonder how long it will continue?

Violinist64 · Today 14:11

Bridgwater. Rough and run down - couldn’t wait to leave.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · Today 14:15

Kings Lynn.
