Will baby be a red head or too early to tell?

Hi, baby is 3 weeks old and looks a very light ginger 😍 white eyebrows and what looks like blonde/warm lashes. Anyone’s child born this colour and it’s stayed or changed completely? Curious 😁

I would say they’ll stay ginger. Anyone I’ve personally known that had that colouring as a baby has done anyway. They’re gorgeous either way, congrats!

Preditorysounds · 20/06/2026 22:26

Why does it matter ? They are what they are. Love them and cherish them / - don’t worry what colour hair they will or won’t have.

for what it’s worth my son was born with very dark almost black hair - but ended up blond - loved him when dark and loved him when light and now he has green and blue hair as he dyes it. Still love him to bits

Really not important !

Dd started off brown. One morning I thought her older siblings had been at her brows with an orange pen!! By 5 months she was a gorgeous ginger colour..
Your baby looks beautiful op.

Two of mine were blond that went dark
One the same as yours that went dark but you can see ginger in the summer and a ginger beard.

We have masses of ginger in the family

Allseeingallknowing · 20/06/2026 22:34

Beautiful baby!

OutOfApricots · 20/06/2026 22:36

My dd started off looking distinctly ginger as a baby, but was actually golden blonde. By about 10 her hair had gone a light brown with a touch of auburn in there somewhere, in the right light, with a following wind, if you squint a bit. Green eyes.

FunMustard · 20/06/2026 22:37

Congrats on your new baby!

My twins had this colouring at birth. They're now 17 and have sort of mousy brown/dark blond hair and blue eyes. Very fair.

Signoritawhocansway · 20/06/2026 22:37

Imo it's the eyelashes that give it away. With light eyelashes will stay blonde/strawberry blonde. Dark eyelashes will mean darker hair. Totally unscientific but it's what I've observed over time! Congratulations!

babbi · 20/06/2026 22:39

Congratulations .. adorable baby !

Nicnoc86 · 20/06/2026 22:39

Oh, when did you start seeing the shift in colour? We are all blondes in the family

I was born orange, my nickname of JohnnyRotten (possibly also inspired by the content of my nappies)
And then within 2 years I turned light brown and then dark brown. I'm the darkest of 3 siblings. One was white blond as a girl and a brunette now, the other one bald for a good year, then blond, then brunette as well.
I'm the one with lightest eyebrow and eyelashes though. And body hair in general. Genetic is weird.

My DDs were both red at birth (what little hair they had) and they’re still auburn now at 12 and 5. They have the same hair colour as me. DS was born with almost black hair, went really blonde and is now darkening up again. DH was born blonde and went really dark as he got older.

Not in our case though 🤔

Gorgeous! My son had this exact colouring at birth and has stayed ginger, he’s a blondy golden ginger, so lovely.

Kickinthenostalgia · 20/06/2026 22:42

Dd was blonde when she was born, she was up until about 4 and then it went brown with blonde highlights. Now it’s mostly brown.

MabelAnderson · 20/06/2026 22:42

What a beautiful golden baby ! Will either deepen into true red or be a warm golden blonde . ❤️

Doggodoggo · 20/06/2026 22:43

My lovely friend's very ginger baby turned dark brown around 5 and has stayed that way. I dont think there is any predicting it
Love them for who they are, not the colour of their hair.

WilfredsPies · 20/06/2026 22:44

I’d say he’s pretty confirmed as a redhead (I agree with @Signoritawhocansway’s eyelash theory). He’s beautiful!

tinyspiny · 20/06/2026 22:46

Our eldest, now adult , had that colouring as a baby and he has grown up blonde with a gingery tinge to his hair , he also gets sunburnt really easily .

CoffeeAndCakeBringMeJoy · 20/06/2026 22:47

I was born with a head full of red hair; more hair than usual for a newborn. It was curly at first, but was straight by the time I was three. It then lightened to auburn, and finally settled at dark blonde around the time I moved up to secondary school.

DD was born with dark brown hair, although nowhere near as much hair as I had when I was a newborn. Her hair looked very ginger at the age of about three months, than started to lighten. She’s now eleven, and has the most beautiful strawberry blonde hair.

Pieceofpurplesky · 20/06/2026 22:52

DS had this colour. He has the most beautiful auburn hair now with ginger highlights. The best hair colour!

BrownTroutBluesAgain · 20/06/2026 22:52

I knew you’d ask OP when the colour change happens

Mine were all definitely walking and still very light haired
but by four they all had darker hair ( not black just warm brown )
The eldest with ginger highlights was more highlighted when younger up to about 8years. Now it’s more a summer look

Eye colour changed too and my 22 year olds hazel eyes are now full on green
My green eyes also got more vibrant green in my 20s

My eldest with those ginger highlights also had hazel eyes but now at mid 20s are dark brown

edited as I just spotted @pieceofpurplesky s post. Yes that’s the colour of my eldest a dark Auburn

( although my green eyed son has just past me in the hallway and he’s looking a bit auburn too. It’s mind blowing how it changes over time )

BertieBotts · 20/06/2026 22:53

I have two redheads. One was pale like this at birth - he is a very bright, light ginger, his eyebrows have stayed very blonde, almost invisible. One day they were doing facepaint at nursery and he didn't want his full face painted but they did paint his eyebrows in black and it looked hilarious - it was like he was a totally different person! He grew his hair long for a bit and it was very fine and perfectly straight.

The other has brown eyelashes and is also redheaded but it has more red/brown in it. You can only really see the difference if they stand right together.

DH was redheaded as a small child but it went bright blonde into his teens and as an adult, more mousey.

Denim4ever · 20/06/2026 22:54

It matters not is the first thing to say. Secondly, I was ginge age 1-2, auburn thereafter Pre-Raphaelite. DS was blonde curls now dark waves. You need to own colour or big hair and love it.

BeMintBiscuit · 20/06/2026 23:07

I'd say strawberry blonde. Gorgeous colour. Blonde but with that red warmth to it. My DD is very strong copper red and she was the most vibrant red at birth and stayed that way. I think this looks like there will be a lovely underlying warmth rather than ginger perhaps? But who knows, they can change frequently!
