A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour* *government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

@Nuthatch26 don't worry I wasn't really going to do it

I do actually think it's safe enough because it's just the neighbours in the block of flats and people will probably be awake all night with doors and windows open! I do go out there when I can't sleep at 3 am. It's fine.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 25/06/2026 21:57

It’s not a communal garden, and the hammock is a big wooden structure, a bit like a beached Viking ship.

And I’ve had a couple of glasses of wine and I’m not moving.

🍷

I was going round our grazing fields this afternoon checking on troughs and topping up where necessary. When I finished I stood under the hose and got absolutely soaked. It was pure bliss.

(Did someone mention a hosepipe ban?)

I think we have been spared the worst of it. We topped out at 28c and had a decent breeze with it. I have my fingers crossed for a thunderstorm tomorrow though, I love a bit of exciting weather.

We're forecast storms at 6am, AKA dog walking time! Might be exhilarating out there. 😬🤣

PaperTyger · 26/06/2026 06:40

Still hugely hot here, today will be our worst day it's 6.30.and all the windows are open but there is no cool breeze to get in ! The accumulated heat will hit us.
Tonight we will get a small reprieve until it goes down to 18 over night.

Anyway !! The times ..."an unholy alliance formed between unite and bankers to STOP ed millband putting a Noose around us, a danger to Britain.

A danger !!
Don't treason laws still exist ??

NoWordForFluffy · 26/06/2026 06:44

Hot and suffocating here today. 🥵 The dog had a curtailed stroll at 5.30 (shortened as he was spooked by the sound of distant thunder and wanted to get home!). I had high hopes for a storm clearing the air, but not to be, as it's gone from the forecast now. 😭

I'm glad that there are (hopefully) influential parties saying no to Miliband as chancellor. Surely Burnham has to pay them some heed?

Middlerage · 26/06/2026 08:21

despite it not being that hot on the east side of Scotland….thunderstorms in the night. Look like I’ve enjoyed some sort of all night party here!

Nuthatch26 · 26/06/2026 08:39

Good morning 😁

We've had some heavy rain, but it hasn't helped the temperature. Its just more humid.

Miliband shouldn't even be in the cabinet imo, never mind chancellor. That would be a new low. Hopefully Burnham will see sense. He won't get much of a honeymoon period if he appoints Ed M.
Starmer and co seem to enjoy upsetting the public, let's see if Burnham is cut from the same cloth.

They really do. Happily we could get rid of some of them after all. We get to vote, as much as that must bug bollard.

Who AB chooses as chancellor will impact his chances.

Nuthatch26 · 26/06/2026 08:52

Oof. Mike Tapp has taken to X and said that he won't be intimidated and is going nowhere.
Mahmood called for his head yesterday, accusing him of breaking the ministerial code.

Speaks to the complete breakdown of government rn. They're embarrassing.

I still think that Streeting may have been promised chancellor for withdrawing from the contest.

Yes, they were happy to dish out spiteful policy, cheered on by the back benches.
Not so happy when the public gave their verdict at the local elections were they!

Could be, that would be better than Miliband at least.
I've seen plenty on the left cheering on Miliband for chancellor, probably simply because they know it will upset the right. They haven't learned a thing.

It’s silly as they presumably want to stay in. Irritating people tends to get the opposite result.

Look at Starmer packing his bags. That’s where it gets you.

It looks like various competing parties want Miliband v someone not him, whether it’s unions, PLP, electorate.

Yes, but those people simply didn’t understand how a local election is supposed to be about bin collections only, according to the usual suspects.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/06/2026 09:04

Why don’t some of the unions want him, allegedly?

Sharon Graham has been scathing of Miliband's policies costing jobs.

I know, its weird that the govt announce it as if it will be popular. It won't.
Just shows how completely out of touch they are with the public.

I’m hoping for Streeting as he’s the best of a bad bunch in that he might possibly realise that he does need to talk the talk on growth…

Middlerage · 26/06/2026 09:09

Or whatever that metaphor is - not a great brain day!

Gosh, the aggrieved are dropping by in numbers these last few days, maybe we should start a tourist tax?

New polling by More in Common and Burnham definitely remains an unknown quantity for almost half of the voting population. Interesting figures to start with and it will be interesting to see how he's viewed as the months go by.

Meanwhile, Starmer remains as toxic as ever with the public.

Edited

Interesting that Farage's 'very bad job' rating is not far off Starmer's

Nuthatch26 · 26/06/2026 09:12

Just listening to the radio. Suggestions that Mike Tapp defying Starmer to curry favour with Burnham. Starmer to weak to sack him.
