Wealthy banker with connections to royalty is arrested in hunt for notorious 'Putney Pusher' | Daily Mail Online

I vividly remember this case which still haunts me and cannot believe it was ten years ago. Finally someone has been arrested who appears to be an ex army wealthy man.

I hope he is charged - so arrogant.

To be fair I have very rarely experienced that. It's usually the middle aged couples who won't let go hands and expect you to go in the road and look at you accusingly when you don't They don't shove, though.

I have- many times unfortunately. I wish I could remember the thing I was watching - maybe a news piece - about women getting pushed over in public places. One woman had someone run up from behind her, push her over, and keep running. There was no one else around so there was plenty of space to get by. With the current misogynistic climate out there, it’s not surprising stuff like this happens.

Yes — there’s not a shred of evidence that a woman was protecting him, the police haven’t suggested it, but somehow it’s got to be a woman’s fault.

Partner then. Whether male or female someone close to him will have known.

SerendipityJane · 15/06/2026 17:52

It seems highly unlikely that the CCTV or anything would have yielded a result from so long ago.

Depends what "AI" can find. A awful lot of old footage is fair game for pattern matching.

Could be he just happened to walk past a facial recognition camera that pieced things together.

I'm glad to hear it, but how odd that it's taken nine years to reach this point if they were naming the same person who's now been arrested.

It’s not odd at all, there are a number of unsolved crimes where names have been reported but the police can’t get the evidence to arrest or charge. Claudia Lawrence being one of the most well known.

the first thing I thought is I bet the police have known who he is for ages but haven’t had sufficient evidence.

I've scoured reddit and I can't find it. Please give me a clue where to look?

Google 'Descendant of Queen Victoria crashed Harley Davidson into cyclist'. You'll find an unusual story of a former British Army captain and descendent of Queen Victoria who apparently hit a female cyclist with his motorbike, fled without exchanging details, and claimed later he had no memory of this incident.

This is of course in no way related to the Putney incident, but is very striking to me how inhumane people can be to others on the road or pavements.

Why didn't the people who knew go to the police?

In many circles they will clam up to protect their own. Lord Lucan was a prime example of someone protected by his friends.

Gloriia · 15/06/2026 17:55

'It seems highly unlikely that the CCTV or anything would have yielded a result from so long ago'

Why? Watch any of those 24hr in police custody programmes and combing cctv is their bread and bitter. It was 10yrs ago, not 30. CCTV was very much a thing.

Passingthrough123 · 15/06/2026 17:56

bumptybum · 15/06/2026 17:24

People don’t. They are assuming that a relationship ended and the ex decided to stick the knife in. Whereas before they didn’t name them as they didn’t want to lose their lifestyle.

Blimey, that's some spin they're putting on it!

Passingthrough123 · 15/06/2026 17:57

MJSongs · 15/06/2026 17:17

It's a theory PPs have posited

So massive assumptions then!

No need for hours of eyeballs. This is a task that AI was invented for. Clever pattern matching at the speed of light.

And thank you.

I still hold out hope they'll find Claudia Lawrence's killer. Her poor family.

Alsogait recognition is also a thing ... maybe he walked past a camera that recognised the stride ?

It is staggering that he wasn't caught at the time. Broad daylight cctv everywhere how on earth wasn't he identified?

Our police never cease to surprise and disappoint. I bet if it he'd sent an inflammatory tweet he'd have had half a dozen plods round to interrogate him.

The police were really lackadaisical in this case - the incident happened in May 5th 2017 but police didn't release any information or the cctv until August 8th (when many people are away). Then the police appeared to be taken aback by the outcry.

WeeDote · 15/06/2026 18:05

We don't know that.

Possible also that he thought he was "safe" after 9 years and blabbed to his mates

goodness me. What a coincidence that there’s two men with the same job title, same type of business, exactly the same age, same army background , same royal connection who both appear to have potentially been involved in a violent crime or incident against a woman. Gosh. I mean they even look a bit similar, what are the chances?

Too much speculation and this thread will be pulled.

Nothing to stop him later being charged with attempted murder, but it's a hard one to prove because specific intent has to be shown. I can see why they would stick to GBH at this point.

I would much rather he was charged with a lesser sentence and actually serves some time than trying to make an example of him and charging a serious crime, and ultimately failing and he walks free. Any conviction at all with jail time is a win I think.

WhatTheHellsGoingOn · 15/06/2026 18:13

Ten years ago???? 😱😱😱

wow.

If it is him then that’s amazing. I’m so sceptical that part of me suspects there will be too much information shared deliberately which will ensure the case is thrown out, pray that doesn’t happen!

Sociopath. And the ppl that covered for him - his friends, family, employers, work colleagues, neighbours - there’s no way nobody in his inner or outer circle didn’t recognise him. I think it’s bizarre that he was ‘lost’ from cctv when London has the most security cameras in Europe doesn’t it? How could they have lost him?! Perhaps when he set foot through the magical doors of his company/posh postcode.

He’s better go down for this for a substantial time. It needs to set an example of how we treat each other, especially men shitting on women in today’s climate. There will be protest if it’s too lenient. Right time of year.

Mmm I think we're walking a tightrope here.

Reddit contains posts about someone who has the same demographic features and a previous unfortunate incident with an inconveniently placed woman, I'm sure anyone who wants to look at it can go there.

I feel sorry for anyone who does have the same background as the arrested person and isn't them, if there are any, because the information given is so specific.

Same, I'd rather see the CPS not get over-ambitious if things proceed that far. But we can hope more evidence might come out now it's being looked at again.
