Wealthy banker with connections to royalty is arrested in hunt for notorious 'Putney Pusher' | Daily Mail Online

I vividly remember this case which still haunts me and cannot believe it was ten years ago. Finally someone has been arrested who appears to be an ex army wealthy man.

I hope he is charged - so arrogant.

Pure speculation but he either split with a long term partner who knew and now wants revenge.

Or he met someone he thought would be impressed with his manliness, but they were a decent human being.

Curious about this- if it turned out that it is someone who knew all along and finally dobbed him in, would they be charged too?

stayathomegardener · 15/06/2026 17:20

It does seem the bus was behind his sight line so potentially he pushed her into a busy many road with all its inherent risks rather than directly into a bus.

Still a dangerous bugger, hope they get a conviction.

On a side note a £1.4k house in London doesn’t scream wealthy banker so maybe that’s a second home.

Deadringer · 15/06/2026 17:22

Oooh just read a very interesting theory of who this guy could be, he completely fits the bill! Obviously won't post anything here but if you trawl reddit you will find it.

MassivePushover · 15/06/2026 17:22

I reckon ex wife.

Wife has suspicions about him and puts 2 and 2 together, and he was acting wierd. Keeps her mouth shut as they have kids, and she weighs it up in her head and decides the woman isn’t seriously hurt, so shelve it.

They’ve split as, well he’s a toxic person, and she can no longer live with the guilty knowledge (she wants him gone) and has gone to the police with evidence, timelines etc. I hope she dug the clothes out of the trash and kept it.

I don’t think I’ll be wildly off the mark when it all comes out.

Imisscoffee2021 · 15/06/2026 17:22

I remember this, lived in London at the time and I knew immediately it was a wealthy man as he wouldn't be jogging in that postcode otherwise, clearly runs from his door and back so very well off and extremely entitled so absolutely does not surprise me. I'm very glad if it is him, that they've got him. And that he does jail time not some community pay back bollocks.

I lived in an area full of these types, they're entitled arseholes behind the wheel of a car, on a bike and jogging, doesn't matter where, their personal best and their planned route is sacred and as you see they'll literally push someone out the way.

If it is a former partner, they may well be a victim of domestic violence from him themselves and too scared to come forward. Or they may not have been in a relationship at the time and only recognised him after seeing the footage again recently.

Or I can imagine a partner not wanting their own life upended by the main breadwinner losing his job and inertial going to jail.

Not saying it’s ok. But I can see it happening. Justifying that no one ended up seriously injured and that there is no need for their own life to be ruined over it.

WinterBlues26 · 15/06/2026 11:32

I'm surprised they finally caught him.

The investigation was closed in 2018 before new information came to light that led to today's dramatic development.
I'm guessing his relationship has ended badly. It's usually a bjg argument with a family member that results in these kind of things.

Yeah I thought perhaps it's someone who either recognised him at the time and kept shtum, or he confessed and they've decided to tell all. It seems highly unlikely that the CCTV or anything would have yielded a result from so long ago.

The fact that he went back 15 minutes later is the most insane part about it for me and what makes me think he might genuinely be some sort of psychopath. I can just about understand (if not excuse) an intrusive thought and pushing someone out of the way initially but surely you'd have a 'Oh shit!' moment and either stop if a halfway decent person, or leg it as far away as possible to not get caught, not just calmly carry on with your planned route!

Fair play to the bus driver, excellent reflexes.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 15/06/2026 17:24

possibly he just let it slip while chatting drunk and chatting to someone - probably thought it was so long ago no one would join the dots

bumptybum · 15/06/2026 17:24

Passingthrough123 · 15/06/2026 17:14

Have I missed something? How do you know he's been arrested because of his partner?

People don’t. They are assuming that a relationship ended and the ex decided to stick the knife in. Whereas before they didn’t name them as they didn’t want to lose their lifestyle.

MassivePushover · 15/06/2026 17:26

Oh the irony.

9 years ago he tried to throw someone under a bus, and now someone has done it to him.

Karma

Is this the same person who has previous history of doing a "hit and run"?

Not just for knowing and not saying anything no, that's not a crime in itself outside a small number of offences- there was a post upthread. Gets messier if they lied to the police if questioned at the time, which of course may not have happened. Could even be someone he didn't know in 2017.

Namechangingregularly · 15/06/2026 17:28

I cannot believe that he wasn’t easily identified at the time. He would have jogged the same route regularly. He probably had a local gym membership. He would have had plenty of colleagues who knew this was him. It’s an absolute disgrace that more wasn’t done at the time. He probably still jogged every morning. Psychopath whatever the verdict.
and I fully expect him to jog away from any charges too. There will be all sorts of claptrap coming out. Amnesia/ stress/ suicidal/ knows the king/ PTSD from fighting for his country. Get him in a cage on Putney Bridge and let’s see him.

PrettyDamnCosmic · 15/06/2026 17:31

Assisting an offender is a criminal offence but I think that to be found guilty of this you need to do something active like give a false alibi not just keep quiet.

Yes

Have read about patriarchy chicken for years, and recently was watching something about people deliberately barging in to other people.

MidnightMusing5 · 15/06/2026 17:38

I knew it would be a banker. Why I am I not surprised! Immoral bunch

Yes I remember having an altercation with a city lawyer type pre-COVID who didn't think he needed to stop for pedestrians when he was on his bike. They are just arses.

I don't think suspects should be named until proven guilty, regardless of crime but I know a lot of people disagree with me about that. And I do hope if they use an identity parade they have other evidence, given the Andrew Malkinson case. Although having the footage should be fairly convincing. I also find it odd that it has taken this long to identify him, assuming this is now the right person.

To be fair I have very rarely experienced that. It's usually the middle aged couples who won't let go hands and expect you to go in the road and look at you accusingly when you don't They don't shove, though.

Squirrelsnut · 15/06/2026 17:40

I hope they check his search history on all his devices very carefully.

GreyBeeplus3 · 15/06/2026 17:43

@roses2
Glad the prat got caught
But am willing to bet he arrogantly thinks his money will make it all go away
Might even claim he has an "ism".

Whyarentmysquashesthriving · 15/06/2026 17:45

Sadly I predict he will get off with the help of a very expensive lawyer. How could they possibly prove it was him after all that time?

I know. Staggering how people can twist a story of brutal male misogyny to find a fictitious woman to blame.

Yes — there’s not a shred of evidence that a woman was protecting him, the police haven’t suggested it, but somehow it’s got to be a woman’s fault.

It is staggering that he wasn't caught at the time. Broad daylight cctv everywhere how on earth wasn't he identified?

Our police never cease to surprise and disappoint. I bet if it he'd sent an inflammatory tweet he'd have had half a dozen plods round to interrogate him.
