Anyone feeling really depressed about the weather?

I know i can't change it so it's pointless, but I honestly feel really low 😕 Where the hell has summer gone? It has rained all day here and been cold and miserable. A heatwave was originally forecast for the weekend but now it's been downgraded to 20 at best, albeit hopefully sunny. I hope it's not going to be like this for the entire summer until we get more of the same in autumn. I have SAD and need warm sun on me. I honestly want to cry.

Yes, I’m fed up too! The forecast is good for this weekend but it looks like it will be raining again next week where I live.

I had a second knee replacement in May and had been looking forward to sitting outside under my new glass verandah while I recovered, I think I’ve been outside about 6 times so far! I know I could still sit outside under when it’s raining but it’s been chilly as well so not much fun!

I had my first knee replacement surgery just before Christmas and spent January confined to the house because of the snow and ice, it was not safe to walk outside using two crutches! So here I am again, on my own, stuck in the house until I can drive again.

The garden looks lush though which is a bonus!

literallyevery · 12/06/2026 08:18

No, strangely I like it. I feel more comfortable and less pressure when the weather isn’t so good. Call me crazy!

Ihateslugs · 12/06/2026 08:20

Oh and I forgot to say that my heating has been coming on for a few mornings, I usually set it at 16° in the summer from 7 am so it must get below that first thing. Also I don’t even have a holiday to look forward to as I thought I would stay at home this year due to my surgery. Maybe I need to look for a September break somewhere hot.

It's going to get better tomorrow and over the weekend so hold tight it won't be long 😊

Not where I live! A mixture of heavy rain, light rain and drizzle for the next week, no sun.

PullTheBricksDown · 12/06/2026 08:51

Yes I was quite down yesterday when it was raining and genuinely cold. It was so miserable through January to March and felt like that again. It has really affected my mood this year.

BTW, current temperatures are more or less normal for the time of year. Spiking high 20s/low 30s are not. https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/research/climate/maps-and-data/uk-temperature-rainfall-and-sunshine-time-series

Yes, absolutely. These kinds of threads happen every year. Its always like this!! We never have long hot mediterranean summers and I'm always baffled why everyone seems to expect them.

AutumnLover1990 · 12/06/2026 08:53

I've noticed from my kitchen window, some leaves on the trees are starting to turn. That's early isn't it?

Probably water stress.

ChipshopPickledEgg · 12/06/2026 09:01

I'm extremely autumnal and do not like hot sweaty summer days... But even I wouldn't complain about less cold feet this point.

TiredCatLady · 12/06/2026 09:17

12degrees and drizzling here this morning. It’s utterly bloody miserable.

DappledThings · 12/06/2026 09:23

It's really not that unusual for June. It's often mild. And once we got past the really wet winter we just had a very dry spring.

I don't fear expect high temperatures until mid-July at least.

Chipsahoy · 12/06/2026 09:44

Seems relatively normal? Looking back at photos over the year and it’s always a mixture of warmth sun and rain as well as some chilly days. That’s just a British summer. The high heat and the floods and such are not normal they are the extremes from the global warming

You need some hobbies!

I do, but they are outdoor hobbies so not good in the rain. Maybe you need hobbies for hot weather.

Ok, these are your feelings. Others have a right to feel different. I and many others find it depressing. You are wrong to judge others as you have no idea what is going in their lives. Maybe that little a bit of sunshine is literally the only bright thing in their lives. Seasonal depression is a thing.

Goodness yes, you can add SAD to my list of depressives.

However a few days of rain following a heatwave does not end in depression.

They're not my feelings, they're facts.

I suggest everyone run to the GP then for a cure for their depression.
Or, stop using terms because you're a little bit put out.

You should contact someone about that, we're only just out of spring blossoms.
Maybe your trees are diseased.

Perfect.

You were down, it affected your mood.

You were not depressed.

It affected my mood too, I felt bloody freezing as had bedroom windows open since the heatwave.
It's nice and warm today. The sun is a bit sporadic through the clouds, but definitely warmer and I do feel better for it.

I was jumping on people for using the term depressed. You didn't, therefore I love you... 🤣

I don’t think it’s about wanting long hot Mediterranean summers - it’s about having a bit of brightness in the sky and for it to stop bloody raining for more than half an hour. Temperatures above 12 would help too. We expect that in March, but a bit of a seasonal shift to June expectations would be nice.

Only for a couple of days. I have rare time off work for an outdoorsy day out next Friday and Saturday and it’s forecast to rain the whole time. Looking out just now and it’s grey and so windy, last night watching sc have a lesson on pony and was freezing being pelted by horizontal rain - just awful

You are the one who lacks basic comprehension skills and empathy. Not a single person on this thread said that they a depressed because of “a little bit of rain”. People are literally talking about being fed up with it “being cold and miserable”, which it has been. It is a fact, not an opinion.

Some of these people, including OP, have SAD so they affected by the lack of the sunshine.
I find this weather depressing and your angry posts are not going to change that.

In case you are still confused here is the definition of the word: “Britannica Dictionary definition of DEPRESSING. [more depressing; most depressing] : causing someone to feel sad or without hope : causing depression. This rainy weather is depressing. He paints a depressing picture of modern life.”

Yes, they do, but so do the threads about hot weather.
As soon as the sun has been out for more than 5 minutes, there will be multiple threads about how bad the heat is. Even though hot weather is also normal in summer.
I don’t post on those threads as I love hot weather, so why should I argue with people who find it difficult?
However, it seems that whenever there is a thread complaining about cold and wet weather, the heat haters come out in force to argue that cold and miserable weather is better than the heat. Why is that?
Why can’t we moan in peace just like the heat haters do on their support threads?
