If you have a cleaner what do you usually do

For payments? Would you Pay them after every clean within days? Straight away usually? Also, if you needed constant reminding would you set up a standing order given that it can be flexible? Last minute cancellation maybe on both sides sometimes

is leaving to 2-3 weeks without paying acceptable?

I always pay in cash on the day

NoNeedToArgue · 11/06/2026 15:48

When I had a self employed cleaner I always paid straightaway. I had to reluctantly go to a much more expensive company though as my cleaner kept cancelling at the last minute which completely negates the entire point of having a cleaner and drove me absolutely mad. Every self employed cleaner I’ve ever had has messed around like that, sadly. I never cancelled at last minute though, why on earth would I?! With the company they send an invoice every month.

Sauvignonblanket · 11/06/2026 15:49

The rule our cleaner has - which I think is good - is payment on the day of the clean.

2-3 weeks
no!!!!!!!!!!!!

I used to clean years ago, most people left my cash in the house or a cheque (it was years back!!)

but no that’s not fair unless they invoice monthly you pay as you go like the window cleaner x

Toddlerteaplease · 11/06/2026 15:50

Bank transfer the morning she’s due to come.

Toddlerteaplease · 11/06/2026 15:51

She’s very reliable and very rarely cancels.

cupfinalchaos · 11/06/2026 15:52

Easy.. just send the money to their bank on the day using a mobile app?

parietal · 11/06/2026 15:52

Bank transfer on the evening of the day she comes

Alwayslurkingsometimesposting · 11/06/2026 15:52

I pay cash on the day. Are you the cleaner OP? If you've got a late payer messing you around then suggesting a standing order is a good idea

champagnetrial · 11/06/2026 15:52

Yes I just bacs when, or v soon after they leave (always on the day). They are fortnightly, so if I had left it 3 weeks I would hope they had already reminded me (and I would be so apologetic!)

TheWisePanda · 11/06/2026 15:53

I always pay on the day, either by cash or by bank transfer. I would say definitely not acceptable to wait a couple of weeks before paying.

JustAnotherWhinger · 11/06/2026 15:53

We pay our cleaner on the 1st Monday of the month for the upcoming month.

for the first 6 months we paid her cash on the day (before clean), but worked out easier for both of us to do it monthly.

TeenLifeMum · 11/06/2026 15:53

Bank transfer on the day.

greglet · 11/06/2026 15:55

Bank transfer when she texts me to say she’s finished. I forgot once and she (very reasonably) chased me for payment the following day.

muddyford · 11/06/2026 15:56

I pay by cheque each time she comes.

Bulbsbulbsbulbs · 11/06/2026 15:57

I did cash or bank transfer on the day.

I had to fire her because she started complaining if I didn't send the money within 5 minutes of her finishing, even though I was at work. I always paid within a couple of hours.

fruitj · 11/06/2026 15:58

I pay in advance which suits us both, usually near the beginning of the calendar month for all the cleans which fall into that month (they come weekly).

Madickenxx · 11/06/2026 15:59

Standing order so she gets paid the morning of the clean. If she cancels at short notice, then I simply hold the payment the following week to catch up. Previous cleaners have either been cash on the day or bank transfer on the day (but after the clean). I would never pay late - it's hard enough being self employed as it is without having to chase for payments.

JustGiveMeReason · 11/06/2026 16:04

I always left cash on the day.
One time when I forgot, I was mortified and asked her if she would prefer me to bring the cash round to her house that evening, or do a bank transfer straight away.

Of course it is not reasonable to leave it 2 - 3 weeks. I think you know that.

WeddingInvitation · 11/06/2026 16:07

I transfer the money on the day she cleans. Forgot once and she sent a reminder at end of week and I paid. Do this as sometimes she has to skip a week. When I used a firm they’d send a substitute so I just paid by direct debit.

if someone isn’t paying my cleaner would ditch them.

SereneGoose · 11/06/2026 16:07

Mil pays her every time..x's 2 a week.

achromaticdudgeon · 11/06/2026 16:07

Bank transfer just after she arrives (she's a bit flaky and has been known to cancel after confirming the morning of the clean - so I don't move money until she's in the house)

I do a standing order weekly payment. My lady is wonderful marvelous love her so I am saved the mortification of ever forgetting to make a transfer.

Arlanymor · 11/06/2026 16:09

What are your cleaner's terms? Most would prefer pay on the day, either cash or bank transfer. I think of it like having an MOT - you couldn't take your car home if you haven't paid and they've just MOT'd your home! So pay on the day. Unless you have a special arrangement specifically as a client which the cleaner agrees to.

ClaudiaNaughton · 11/06/2026 16:11

Cash on the day
