The "if it wasn't for Elon Musk buying twitter..." rubbish can get in the bin. My family and friends and colleagues all stopped using it and deleted it post Elon. My work's twitter account and most other accounts for organisations in my sector also left twitter post Elon.

News organisations such as the BBC, Sky, Channel 4 news, broadsheets and tabloids all must abide by a set a of standards, and will need to corroborate any facts before making them public.

Getting the news wrong is dangerous. Giving out all of the information immediately isn't always in the best interest of everyone.

I've looked now and there is plenty of information about this horrible incident available via many and varied news providers and platforms, including but not limited to:

BBC: Starmer calls Belfast knife attack 'horrific' as he thanks public for intervening (live)
BBC: Man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after 'brutal' attack in Belfast
BBC: Man arrested after 'brutal' knife attack in north Belfast (video)
BBC: MPs respond to 'horrifying' Belfast knife attack (video)
BBC: Watch: NI Politicians React to 'horrifying' attack in Belfast (video)
Sky News: Starmer condemns 'abhorrent scenes' as man arrested over 'horrific Belfast...
Sky News: Belfast stabbing: 'It's difficult to comprehend the barbarity of this...
Sky News: Urgent Questions on Belfast knife attack in the Commons
Sky News: Belfast attack latest: Public urged to stay calm as Starmer condemns...

AND SO ON.

Why are people saying he is from Somalia? BbC news are saying Sudan.

Because it changed in the reporting.

Given your feigned naivety, I recommend checking here before making travel plans:

https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice

I suggest the pp looks at what’s happening in Sudan.

Where do you think the NHS would be without immigration?

Half of newly qualified British doctors would not have been left without a job last year.

The BBC gets community noted daily on Twitter for false information.

Most news channels do too because they won’t provide factually correct information. Especially prevalent in trans crimes when they falsely call a trans identified male a woman.

Probably about the same, but with slightly higher pay for staff (since their pay is undermined by foreign workers who don't expect as much renumeration).

About a third of NHS hospital doctors are foreign nationals - that’s around 50k doctors. Good luck finding replacement British ones at short notice.

Lentilcakes · 09/06/2026 13:06

I’m not a bbc fan but I can see that they don’t want to whip up hysteria about this and are being vague as to she nature of the attack.
They've asked for the video not to be shared.

Well it's not for the BBC to decide what the public gets furious about. It's their job to report what happened. With the details that are known so far. Including description of attack, of perpetrator, language being spoken and translation as soon as known. I also do not expect the BBC to guard this information on behalf of the police or government. That's the way to get a Reform government.

The same place as the gestures to support Katie Fox, Mark Teeton, Alfie Lewis, Harvey Willgoose, Amie Gray and too many more, perhaps?

Tragic murders. Were the police involved in siding with a racist murderer (after racists murderer's family had called the police to tell them the victim had been racist) and potentially quickened their death, arresting them, cuffing them whilst they said 'I've been stabbed I can't breathe'?

Yes I think you could find them graduating annually from universities across the country, but often unable to find work as they're immediately beaten to the post(s) by people who will accept less pay for a better lifestyle than their home countries in the UK. Do you think no one here studies medicine?

Allisnotlost1 · 09/06/2026 13:20

Yes you probably would like to avoid going there. But since you’ve claimed this is a ‘one off religious nutter’ how are you going to check other men arriving haven’t been influenced in the same way?

Especially since the pp said the societies were unstable and not healthy and those outcomes were more likely.

What checks will you have?

Feel free to show me where I ‘claimed this is a ‘one off religious nutter’.

There will be demonstrations, and the mainstream media will of course characterize them as ‘far right’, rather than desperately angry and worried ordinary citizens.

There is absolutely no need for a call to take to the streets to f*ing riot because of this why should everyone else suffer because of another’s actions !! ..... ah I know because people are thick and think wrecking their own communities and scaring those that are just trying to get on with life and do their jobs live peaceful get hurt and drawn into bigots stupid actions.

violence does not end violence evil does not stop evil

and a reminder calls that incite hatred are illegal

Sunglade · 09/06/2026 13:22

Tax payers in northern Ireland who until now have only had to cough up this man's universal credit and rent, will now have to fund him in a high security prison somewhere at X times the cost.

Sudan is a war zone. You cannot return a criminal to a war zone even an awful criminal.
Reality is people from this kind of conflict area may arrive with severe trauma and mental health issues potentially and can be a huge threat to the public. All reasonably foreseeable. They should have a psychological evaluation.
I guess if we do not have enough mental health professionals to deal with our own case load, then this kind of thing will slip through.

Of course people here study medicine, do you think those 50k doctors are all recent graduates? Would you prefer a recently qualified or an experienced anaesthetist, or neurosurgeon? Unfortunately postgrad funding, preference and a bunch of other things make some specialisms less interesting. Many British doctors go to work abroad after qualifying. And a rotation of doctors from different countries brings expertise and learning which benefits us all.

The BBC that put out an hour-long documentary narrated by the son of an Hamas official?

Do you have any evidence for which countries this more regularly happens in? I’m not familiar with where but I’m sure we’d all like to avoid going there.

Are you accepting now that atrocities such as beheadings and eye gouging do happen more regularly in some countries @Allisnotlost1?

Eg Sudan.

And what checks would you put in place to ensure men don’t arrive here and do the same?

15 years of austerity put paid to psychological services. The head of that service was on R4 today stating that’s one of the reason the Nottingham killer hadn’t been sectioned again.

Dare I say that any person waiting 14 hours perhaps isn’t triaged to be seen in a hurry, and could have made other arrangements, and that the continent from which the doctor came is as irrelevant as their body odour?

Alleged perpetrator in UK on a five-year visa- Gavin Robinson
The alleged perpetrator of a stabbing in Belfast was in the UK under a five-year visa, DUP leader Gavin Robinson has said.
Addressing the Northern Ireland Secretary Hilary Benn in the Commons, he said: “This needs to be a time for honesty and openness and truth.
“Will he confirm that he and his Government recognise that uncontrolled immigration needs to end?
“Will he confirm that the Government needs to reassure and protect our population, who for too long have had their concerns ignored, and knowing that he and the Chief Constable and I share a concern that there could be violence, and express my wish and our collective desire for calm, that community cohesion lies on the precipice?
“Will he confirm that the actions last night in no way reflect or represent the values of our nation, that the victim belongs in Belfast, but the attacker does not?
“Having abused the privilege of our nation, the [alleged] perpetrator living in the UK under a five-year visa needs to be convicted and deported on the first flight out on a one-way ticket.”
Mr Benn echoed Mr Robinson’s call for calm, saying it was “communities that suffer” when there is disorder on the streets, but did not confirm that the attacker was in the UK on a visa

Well perhaps you can explain what those “desperately worried and anxious citizens” are hoping to achieve from demonstrating against a clearly mentally unwell man who is now safely locked in a police cell? Maybe they are hoping for an excuse to have an opportunity for a bit of violence themselves, which is how these media hyped demonstrations always seem to end up.

ForSnappySwan · 09/06/2026 13:26

Just seen the story - absolutely shocking and troubling.

The BBC is now (belatedly) covering it, it's saying the man arrested is from Sudan, not Somalia
