Ever been clubbing abroad?

Have you ever been clubbing abroad and by that I mean outside the UK and also the Republic of Ireland.

What was it like? For me. It's a thing I want to experience for some reason.

Yes in Ibiza. Ushuaia and Hi most recently. Drinks are ridiculously expensive.

Was a good atmosphere, especially Ushuaia as was to see certain DJs.

Yes.

In my youth, not recently.

My fave was Zante, the laganas strip. 😎

How was it? Are locals there or is it just Brits.

Yes - West Coast and East Coast of America. Also in Berlin. Both 18+ years ago though!

America was astonishingly drug-free in the East Coast by UK standards. Shirtless muscly men tended to be straight, which was a bit of a difference! Not that much booze either. West Coast rave more druggy, very young crowd - no one really knew or cared who the DJs were although at least one was someone pretty legendary (Green Velvet).

Berlin was druggy and quite hard-core as you might imagine from the rep.

I've been clubbing in Ibiza and Mexico. Both incredible.

The Mexican club I went to had full on props etc when songs of the moment came on, eg, suspended/flying motorbikes when Toxic came on for example. Epic. Lots of v drunk Americans who would not have been of age to visit clubs and drink in their country, all having a great time.

It was a long time ago that I was there. We went a few times and it was a mixture of locals, but there were lots of other nationalities there too but also lots of other Brits. The atmosphere was amazing.

I can't say what its like out there now. It could be completely different to my own experience 😐

Lots of different nationalities. Lots of different ages too. Not sure if any were locals. I really enjoyed it but then I keep to the back so I've got space to dance. I don't like to be in the middle of a huge pulsing crowd. Didn't notice any drug taking, although I'm not naive enough to think it wasn't happening. No drunken brawls either.

Oh, we went to ocean beach a couple of years ago. That was full of posers and people with too much money or willing to get into debt to 'look good' with a giant bottle of overpriced grey goose. I did feel so much of a clubbing vibe there but thoroughly enjoyed the people watching.

Was there a lot of snogging?

Not that I saw

San Antonio and Magaluf in the early 90’s. Unbelievable.

I went to Ibiza in 1999. I loved every minute of it. I went with my then boyfriend so not sure about the snogging.

Yes. Madrid, Milan, Paris, Ibiza, various Greek islands…

Back in 1999.
Turkey.
Was dragged there persuaded by hotel reps that it would be "fun".
It was shit. Everyone was drinking too much alcohol because it was cheap.The reps just dropped us off at the end of a dark road near our hotel where the local pervs tried to grab us and touch us up.
Horrible holiday.

Back in the 90’s/00’s I used to live in Germany and had some amazing nights clubbing. They were open really late til 5/6 am, huge venues, often in the middle of nowhere and had different rooms for different genres of music, one even had a kind of ballroom dancing zone that was really popular. One of the clubs I used to go to, the resident DJ was Scooter before he was famous.

All over! America, Australia, Ibiza, Greece, Krakow .... best experience for something totally different would be The Gambia. Crazy clubbing and wild music.

Yes, many, many years ago. Greece and Japan. Lived in both countries.

I did a beach party in Thailand, one of the best things I've done. The atmosphere is like nothing else and the ridiculous things they do with fire. The best bit was the saxophone player stood above the DJ booth though, gave me goosebumps.

Yes. The most notable night was in Barcelona. A club called Shoko (presumably because it was a shoko to pay €48 for 4 vodkas and 2 red bulls).

I was with a friend and a group of 3 people we’d met earlier that night and it was great. Good music, good atmosphere, a very ‘touchy feely’ vibe that wouldn’t be for everyone but not at all threatening, if a guy danced up clearly wanting to dance with one of us then a shake of the head was enough of a no and they’d just move on. There did seem to be a fair amount of snogging going on.

This would have been back in about 2018 I think.

I don’t remember there being many Brits but then we didn’t speak to many people, and I was the only Brit in our group anyway.

Crete, Turkey, Madrid, Budapest.

All very different. Madrid was my favourite.

Back in the 90s I went to Manumisson in Ibiza. Absolutely mental, horseback riders on stage with flaming torches, sex shows in a room I stuck my head in and left pronto, top music and dancing like crazy until you went to Space to chill out in the morning.

These days I imagine it looks like an episode of Love Island.

More recently, Madrid, Barcelona and Berlin were fun.

I've pretty much retired these days though!

Stockholm, 15 years ago, winter. Amazing venue in a former church. Very cool!

Churches can be good venues, there was a night called Mass in church in Brixton that was a good night out.

The acoustics really work.
