Also A/C adds overall to global warming so doesn't that just add to the problem? You can always put ice in front of a regular fan and blow the cold air around. It's high UV today so get your factor 50 on!

Flidina · 23/05/2026 14:25

We bought air conditioning units for the bedrooms a few years ago, they're a god send, don't have to use them very often, but when we do, they're worth every penny.

CoCoJones26 · 23/05/2026 14:29

Gov have announced new grants of up to £2500 towards air- to- air AC units, worth looking into if the summers are going to get hotter....

I hate to be that person-but this is what happens when we ignore the climate crisis.

Hear hear (with sadness)

Zov · 23/05/2026 15:01

I am normally that person who says 'meh stop moaning! We've waited 7 or 8 months for this, and it's gorgeous!' And tbf, it is. Yet it's only in the low to mid 20s, and for some reason, I have been struggling this past few days. I feel tired and lethargic and a bit queasy, and am sooooo hot. I'm usually fine!

I am sweating buckets just doing a bit of weeding. I've had 2 cool showers today! (And I will have a third before dinner!) 😬 I am only having quick 2-minute freshen ups, but I NEED them, to cool down, and to get rid of the sweatiness!

And it's only 22 degrees C. 😖The temperature predicted for Monday in my area (North Mids) is 30C! 🥵

I think it may be a combination of the humidity (was 95% here at midday, and has only dropped to 75% now,) and hay fever. It was 33C to 37C on quite a number of the days last year, and I was fine! BUT it wasn't humid with it.

.

Tuxedomaddness · 23/05/2026 15:06

30c here in Greater Manchester by Monday which is very rare. I think our Summers will just ger hotter and hotter.

I do this and it really does help. But it feels weird being in a house shrouded in semi-darkness when it’s brilliant sunshine outside.

I know. Some of our rooms have blinds which don't make the room totally dark, which is nicer than blackout curtains - if I squint i can tell myself I'm on holiday in Spain or something!

I have camped in the back garden before when it's been hot, in a tiny tent with the door open. It was lush.

Bit of a palaver though and you get woken up early by the light.

BridgetJonesV2 · 23/05/2026 21:22

It's been a perfect day here, around 24c at the highest and with a nice breeze. Temperature is cooling, I've just shut the patio doors.

Not looking forward to Monday/Tuesday though.

A few years ago I recall mumsnetters recommend the garden trampoline for a good nights sleep in hot weather.

34feeling54 · 24/05/2026 03:16

It's been hot in Norwich today, glad I've got fitted air con 😉😂

It seems to often have a hot period in May.

I ordered a small air conditioning unit on Amazon. Got up to checkout, said delivery 23rd; paid, got email saying 30th.
Cue a long email exchange with Amazon, who had nothing useful to say except it was in stock and coming from a long way away. My suggestion of the moon or coming by carrier snail was not agreed. So I told them that obviously I couldn't trust their delivery dates and I would note that if I need something by a particular time not to order it from them.

And I won't; I'm stubborn like that. I still won't buy clothes from Tesco's because the manager decided to explain to me that he never took the label off the clothes until he'd tried it on and made sure it fit. As I had pointed out, it was impossible to try it on without removing the label as it was attached firmly to the hanger with the label, and you don't try on clothes to fit a 6 month old... said 6 month old is now an adult.

DefiantRabbit9 · 24/05/2026 14:43

Girl! I'm 25 weeks preggers and I feel like I'm dying. My pets and I are just flumped out panting like crazy.

I went out and watered the plants at 9 am the garden is bone dry now.

Whatisgoingoff2024 · 24/05/2026 15:31

30 weeks pregnant, 3 year old no longer naps (unless I want a 10pm bedtime) day 3/4 solo parenting, dog panting at me as he can’t get cool, today I hate the sun.

julesover40 · 24/05/2026 17:03

Sorry ladies, but im enjoying it. Got the fans out of the loft yesterday morning, so every room is cool ( curtains drawn). Got up super early to walk the dog before it got too warm. Have spent the day alternating between reading outside with a cold drink and coming in to do housework to cool down. Washing done and dry in minutes.
Picky non cooking bits for tea in the garden where we are, now all under the sunshade as 29 degrees now. Cold wine and music on. Could be grey and wet again by next weekend x

I struggle in the heat but I have to say I'm loving it so far

I am still loving it so far, but next few days it's going to be 30c+ so I'll be loving it less 😁

I hate when people say you shouldn't complain about hot weather. I don't like hot weather, you're allowed to not like it. I think the tricky thing at the moment is it's come on so suddenly, last week I was putting my toddler in a vest and long sleeve top for nursery.
