I hate to be that person-but this is what happens when we ignore the climate crisis.

Hot weather is like marmite. Love it or hate it.
If it’s cold you can get warmer , but staying cool is a lot harder to do ( without pools or air con )
It’s only going to get hotter over the years , so I suppose we all have to adapt to it in our own ways.

Sorry OP but I just love it. Not being wrapped up in layers, not having to grab a coat, not having my body aching. I am older but not fatter, not sure if that is the difference!

I think it is when I was skinnier i never had this problem

Did you realise it heats as well as cooling? I use mine to boost the temperature in the sitting room a bit instead of turning the central heating on so effectively turning it on a month later and off a month earlier. It doesn’t heat the whole house but it’s fine for those two months and a lot cheaper than having the central heating on.

No i didn't maybe is something we will look at in the future then when the radiators need replacing

Come to western Scotland. 17C and cloudy.

I need to move south!

I fucking hate it. It really makes me feel depressed, everything is such hard work. Over 25 makes me feel nauseous, exhausted, grumpy and sleepy. I hung the washing out and just felt so angry. Our game changer last year was fans that stick in to a light fitting instead of the bulb. Got them for every room and that made things a bit better but I can’t face going into the scorching attic to find the bastard things.

You absolutely have to make a decision. Right now! There or here??!

GingerdeadMan · 23/05/2026 11:13

Shut the curtains when the sun is on them. Makes it gloomy but really helps.

Keep windows and doors closed on really hot days and don't open the windows until the temperature outside is less than inside.

This didn't occur to me until I spent a year in Australia where it was the norm in hot weather. Makes sense I guess - you wouldn't leave your windows open in winter then wonder why your house was freezing!

In the UK we are just so used to the idea that outside is cooler than inside - but it's not always.

We live in an old house that we never had the funds to do up, so it is always cold inside when the heating is off. Cold to the point that vegetables left out of the fridge do not rot. What a joy it is to open the door in the morning and step into a hot, hot day!!!! Shame the sensation is not the same when exits are repeated. But the first 'out' and then, after a scorching day 'in', are amazing! However hate it in winter - no matter how much the heating is on, the difference when stepping outside is not as noticeable.

Dragonfly97 · 23/05/2026 11:17

I like to see the sun but with a nice breeze, the trouble with warm weather in the UK is the humidity, if it was a dry heat it would be ok, and if it cooled down at night, like desert heat. And hotter countries are prepared for it! By the tine we get to August I'm longing for cooler autumn days.

Thegoldenoriole · 23/05/2026 11:18

youalright · 23/05/2026 10:27

I think the biggest problem is where not use to it and our houses aren't built for it so there is no escape

This, our house retains heat dreadfully, especially upstairs. The sudden onset is especially hard, I think if we’d had a couple of weeks of 20-25 it would be bearable, but the temperature has doubled almost overnight.

Thelonelyshrew · 23/05/2026 11:19

I’m in the North East. Whilst it’s lovely and sunny and quite warm, it’s also windy. Another lovely day spoiled by the wind.

I’m getting my washing out though, so silver lining!

the80sweregreat · 23/05/2026 11:19

I don’t mind it a bit warm with a breeze , but it is all or nothing isn’t it. Even early autumn where I live can be warm sometimes. The lack of rain is worrying too. The seasons seem all over the place.

Topsy44 · 23/05/2026 11:21

I have red hair (well used too!) and am extremely fair plus I am mid 50s now, all of which add up to me just being a hot sweaty mess in the heat.

Elderly DCat though is loving it - he’s fully stretched out on the lounge rug and I don’t think he could get any more relaxed🙂 I think the heat must be good on his joints - he has the right idea though, I think best to do as little as possible in this weather to conserve energy!!

dailyconniptions · 23/05/2026 11:26

If you're too hot, you're too hot! It's that simple, regardless of what we're 'supposed' to think and do in it. I'm in with the curtains shut as I can't hack anything over 23 degrees. But it does look beautiful I must say and for those who love the heat, glad you can enjoy it!

REP22 · 23/05/2026 11:27

I'm with you, OP. I hate it.

Mumandcarer80 · 23/05/2026 11:29

Come to Cumbria it’s cloudy looks like it’s going to rain and feels colder than 15 degrees. Will probably come out sunny at around 4pm it often does.

Dontcallmescarface · 23/05/2026 11:31

I love it. After months of cold, wet, windy weather the last couple of days have been wonderful. Long may it continue.

I’ll join you - I was so looking forward to gardening this weekend but it’s around 25 degrees already, we’ve got a south facing garden and it’s only getting hotter. I’ve done some half hearted weeding and tons of washing to hang out Grin

We have a South facing garden, we stArted at 6am with the quiet stuff as it will be too hot this afternoon. We have to get used to admire Mediterranean lifestyle I think. I will siesta from 12 to 4 and then get out there again. ( We just moved in so lots to do as previous owned by a man in his nineties and empty a fair while)

NotMeAtAll · 23/05/2026 11:52

I have never been a fan of warm weather.

Depends where you live! I get fed up hearing about places having a heatwave, that’s not the case where I live! Here in the Manchester area it is sunny with some clouds but certainly not scorching hot! I did sit outside yesterday but it was quite windy which lowered the temperature and it got rather cool in the evening.

My heating is set at 18° at the moment and it came on this morning for a short time.
