I don’t mind it a bit warm with a breeze, but it is all or nothing isn’t it.

No. It depends where you live.
Yesterday was a warm 24 degrees and very breezy. Today it is currently a breezy 19 degrees with a forcast high of 21. Tomorrow will be 23 degrees .

I'm on the Yorkshire side of the Pennines, so we don't get the heat island effect from towns and city centres. I love summer because it doesn't get unbearable here.

I think the biggest problem is where not use to it and our houses aren't built for it so there is no escape

First thing in the early morning let the cool outside air in, close the windows once that’s done, close all curtains during the day where the sun comes on.

  • Supermarkets and shopping centers are air conditioned
  • Avoid going to the beach as they will be overcrowded
  • Head to forests, they will be a lot cooler
  • dont do vigorous exercise
  • Take extra showers
  • purchase a fan, the oscillating ones are particularly good
  • Dont let a car out in the heat, if you must, leave windows slightly open, use a car sun screen
  • if one room in the house is too hot, close the door on that one
  • have a late BBQ
  • eat salads, do not cook ! Your kitchen will be unbearable
the80sweregreat · 23/05/2026 13:01

Yes, obviously depends on where you live in the Uk. As a hot weather hater , I am unlucky that I live in a part where the temp is higher.

BrightBrightSunshineyDay · 23/05/2026 13:03

I am that person. I hate it. Just ordered an air-conditioning unit.

neilyoungismyhero · 23/05/2026 13:04

Still lovely and hot in West Midlands

Ah, we should all be slim as you then we'd have no problems.

Mean! It’s a nice thread, no need to be like that! My post was perfectly pleasant but maybe I hit a nerve.

JohnBullshit · 23/05/2026 13:17

I kind of am that person, but it's too soon to start complaining. Here it's probably about right. Warm enough to sit out in it if you want to, even have a walk, but not due to hit the 30 degree mark yet. My only issue is training DH to keep the right windows, doors and curtains closed, and not throttling him first thing in the morning when he tries to retaliate by telling me I've left the bedroom window open. Behave, shut up, and leave me alone.
Maybe the heat is getting to me more than I thought.

whynotwhatknot · 23/05/2026 13:18

go ahead i hate it too i never moan about the cold its the people that moan about both that get on my nerves

Lifeomars · 23/05/2026 13:20

I used to love it, but these days with horrendous hay fever and hair that now goes into a massive mess of frizz in the heat I dread it. Washed, blow dried and ran a straightener over my hair last night and woke up to it looking as if it hadn't been touched. The heat now makes me so tired, disrupts my sleep and makes everything much more of an effort. I like it up to about 23 degrees but anything over that poleaxes me and it also feels wrong for this time of year

CrossPurposes · 23/05/2026 13:21

Sweaty underboobs, heat rashes, and swollen fingers - what's not to love?

MrSchubertWhiskers · 23/05/2026 13:24

I struggle in the heat but I have to say I'm loving it so far

Shut the curtains when the sun is on them. Makes it gloomy but really helps.

Keep windows and doors closed on really hot days and don't open the windows until the temperature outside is less than inside.

This didn't occur to me until I spent a year in Australia where it was the norm in hot weather. Makes sense I guess - you wouldn't leave your windows open in winter then wonder why your house was freezing!

In the UK we are just so used to the idea that outside is cooler than inside - but it's not always.

I do this and it really does help. But it feels weird being in a house shrouded in semi-darkness when it’s brilliant sunshine outside.

Girlwithavibe · 23/05/2026 13:28

It's such a sudden rise that's why it feels so intense there wasn't any warming up one day it was cold and pissing down and yesterday it's red hot 🔥!
I have previously struggled but last few years I have been ok and that is since I lost the extra 3 stones with slimming world 🌎!
I keep my plantation blinds closed and this is keeping house nice and cool 😎!

Liberancho · 23/05/2026 13:29

ACs are an investment. Because this weather and these extremes aren't going anywhere. Even if it is just one unit in the bedroom, it will at least offer proper sleep and respite when these temps arrive.

Keep your windows closed, as well as blinds/curtains. It'll soon cool down.

chaosmaker · 23/05/2026 13:35

I hate it too. Quite a few health conditions are affected badly in the heat. Diabetes is one of them.

henlake7 · 23/05/2026 13:36

Not that bad here TBH. 28C and not a cloud in the sky! Ive already walked into town to do some shopping and now Im going to do nothing all afternoon!
I think the key to living in the hottest part of the country is to convince yourself that it really isnt that bad!😄(I'll save the moaning for when it gets above 35C!).

Oasisinthearea · 23/05/2026 13:38

It’s ok for getting loads of washing dry. The shouting all started at 8.30am. Another load of hassle and shouting has just started. No doubt we’ve got that into the night. Hurry up and piss off.

clearlyy · 23/05/2026 13:38

Bleeding red hot in Leeds.

LakieLady · 23/05/2026 13:44

I'm fortunate enough to live almost at the top of a hill, and it's very rare for there not to be at least a bit of breeze up here.

I've got lots of windows and the back door open, and I keep getting nice wafts of cool air blowing through. The thermostat in the living room says it's 24.9 degrees in here, but it doesn't feel like it. It's a good bit warmer out of doors, which is why I'm staying in!

RampantIvy · 23/05/2026 13:52

Bleeding red hot in Leeds.

Really? According to the Met office it is only 21 degrees in Leeds.

Sunny but nice and cool in Scotland.

Yeah I live in scotland and used to live in London, don't miss how hot the carpet in my top floor flat got from all the heat rising!

Bleeding red hot in Leeds.

Really. My son and partner have come to visit for the weekend from Leeds. I was feeling guilty about cloud cover this morning. It's sunny now but not red hot.

AnnieBond · 23/05/2026 13:57

Since I had the stroke I just can't take the heat anymore, not sure if it is the stroke or the medication I'm now on?

either way it's just no longer enjoyable for me ☹️

and definitely due to the stroke I can no longer take the kayak out or swim in the lake 😢

im enduring it, not enjoying it & that makes me sad 😭

EuroNotVision · 23/05/2026 14:21

Bought aircon today! Normal for other countries
