Where do you keep your handbag?

Not a life threatening issue I know, but it’s beginning to bug me!

On Pinterest people seem to keep theirs neatly hung up in their colour coordinated wardrobes, maybe on a special bag hook on the inside of the door. I keep mine by the side of a chair in the front room and sometimes it leans, sometimes it gapes open and I dont really want visitors seeing the inners of my bag!

where do you keep yours? I want it easy to grab when I’m heading out, but stored more neatly!

On the newel post. I wish I had room in my hallway for coat hooks etc but sadly that'll have to wait for my next house!

All my other bags live in boxes on top of the wardrobes, but I only really change them round if I'm going somewhere smart and need a smart bag (my everyday one is an anti-theft small backpack type)

Phone gets taken out of my bag when I come in, keys go in a little bowl on the windowsill, which is unreachable from the front door/letterbox.

I keep my handbags which i'm not using (i have a different bag for each season 😃 wanky, i know) in their dust covers in a box in my wardrobe.

The in use bag is always hung on the back of a specific chair in the sitting room. I don't like it in the hall. No idea why!

SquareSweetsThatLookRound · 23/05/2026 15:42

In their dust bags in the drawer under my bed.

On a hook in the hall

MrsMoastyToasty · 23/05/2026 16:03

On the wardrobe door.

The couple directly across the road from us were broken into while asleep upstairs. The thieves took everything of value from inside the house and also took the wife's bag which was on the newel post at the bottom of the stairs and also stole her car.

ClaudiaNaughton · 23/05/2026 20:37

I’d rather burglars took it from newel post than come upstairs to find it. Ditto car keys.

Somewhere downstairs where I dumped it last time I came home.

Thank goodness for this post, all those organised people who have definite places for their bags! I too just drop mine somewhere as i come in, often just outside the downstairs loo! It's often left in the car too.

MrsLFii · 23/05/2026 20:44

In my car, passenger footwell, generally. Occasionally it ventures indoors and goes on a hook by the front door.

IamEarthymama · 23/05/2026 20:47

We have over the door hooks on the porch door. There are currently 6 bags on there, crossbody bags in different styles and colours.
we choose whichever we fancy on the day!
We are both women so it's first up best dressed here!☺️
Only joking, we are very different but we love a crossbody bag!!

Fakingitnotmakingit · 23/05/2026 20:47

Always on the hook on the back of my office door which is upstairs.

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 23/05/2026 20:47

In the hall

fluffydoglove · 23/05/2026 20:49

I want a place to put my bags.. mine sit at the bottom of my wardrobe gets very crowded

TheyGrewUp · 23/05/2026 20:56

The one I'm using is never far from me. The others are on an upper shelf in my wardrobe. It is a long shelf Blush.
20ish.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 23/05/2026 21:24

My main one. In the hall or in bedroom. But I sometimes change them. They do have a shelf/cupboard in the bedroom or hang up.

LBFseBrom · 23/05/2026 21:24

Near me, by the sofa most of the time.

SquareSweetsThatLookRound · 23/05/2026 15:42

In their dust bags in the drawer under my bed.

Actually this is true, designer bags are kept in dust bags on shelf/drawer when not in use.

HelenaWilson · 23/05/2026 21:31

In the bedroom by the side of the bed. It stays up there unless I’m going out somewhere.

Same here.

If I go straight upstairs when I come in I take it up with me. Otherwise it goes upstairs with me when I go to bed.

I would never leave it near the front door, or downstairs overnight.

mondaytosunday · 23/05/2026 23:33

I have double doors from kitchen to livingroom and one side is always open so my bags hang off the handle closest to the wall.

ReignOfError · 23/05/2026 23:43

It hangs on the hook next to the coat rack which was designed for it lives on the hall floor by my shoes, in everyone’s way.

Miranda65 · 23/05/2026 23:44

Upstairs, in my bedroom. Never, ever downstairs because I only need it if I'm going out - so I collect it when I go upstairs to have a wee, get changed, find my shoes etc. Otherwise it's out of sight, out of mind and I don't want it cluttering up any of the downstairs rooms.
It's also habit..... at least for the nearly 40 years I've lived in this house 😂

Jillfram · 23/05/2026 23:58

I'd find it annoying to keep it upstairs because I'd forget to pick it up, then I'd have to run upstairs to get it, after I put my shoes on, so I'd have to take them off again to walk up the stairs. We have everything needed to go out in the hall - coats, shoes, bags, umbrellas, and it gets grabbed on the way out.

I suppose the burglary issue could be a risk but not a big one as that type of burglary has never happened on this street for as long as we've lived here.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 24/05/2026 00:39

In a neat divided rack on the top shelf of my wardrobe, except for the one in current use that hangs on the top drawer knob on a tall chest of drawers in my bedroom.

mathanxiety · 24/05/2026 01:19

On a hook behind the coats in the coat closet. I don't need anything out of it when I'm home.

The bags I'm not using live in a drawer in my bedroom.

MyGirlJ · 24/05/2026 01:28

Most of the time it's on top of the ottoman in my bedroom. When it's downstairs I put it in the blanket/throw basket, tucked behind the door in the living room.

ApolloandDaphne · 24/05/2026 01:42

I have loads of handbags. Most of them are in a cupboard upstairs. The ones I use most hang on hooks by the back door (we use that rather than the front door). I have a little pouch I keep all my essentials in and move that between hand bags along with my phone and purse when I go out.
