12 year old ds disturbing Google search

I have just checked my voicemail this evening and had a message from 12yo ds head of year (y7) about 'something offensive which was picked up by smoothwall on the school laptop while he was logged in'. In the voicemail the hoy said that no requirement for a set of educational sessions and that he assured her it was a one off.

The message didn't detail what was picked up. I obviously had a conversation with ds about this and first he said he didn't remember what he typed. Then a few minutes later he revealed that he typed in 'is it illegal to put an animal in a blender?'

Im honestly really shocked and very disappointed. I would never have expected this from him. His father and I are separated and have been for a few years and he has pets in both houses (gerbils in his dad's, a cat at mine).

I've spoken to his dad about this, we have a pretty good coparenting relationship. Ds is going to his dad's after school tomorrow as I'm working nights for three nights from tomorrow. I'm going to call the school in the morning obviously but I don't even know where to begin with this.

Ds said he was just messing about with his friends but that he would even think about this has really disturbed me. He's a good kid at home, and this seems very out of the blue. He didn't say his friends typed it in, he said he did.

He's been banned from his PlayStation tonight and I've taken his phone too. I don't know if he will be allowed these in his dad's tomorrow

I think all this is a red herring as the o.p is saying he looked it up to prove it is illegal. Would it be better if he typed "legality around cruelty to animals?" If so then it is all semantics and you sre criticising a child for not having a well thought out google search.

Schools are odd places for children to be in now.

The children are watched too much. The parents are watched too much.

I think that would be a fine thing to Google actually. Just another way to find out what the exact laws were. I also think it is rich people on here worrying about the lads maturity when they can't separate a quick google search from serial killing

I genuinely would not have batted an eyelid at this when my kids or their friends were that age. I wasn't shocked by anything they would say.

We recently watched The Capture on iplayer and they kept mentioning a security service similar to the MI5, can’t remember who now. Anyhow when we typed it in the message was, “Access Denied”, very spooky. We are aged 62 and 59 and still curious 🤗

Many years ago there was a rumour that if you searched certain terms (I think it was something like ‘kill the President’ still nervous typing that, a message would come up to say the security services were aware of you and were coming to arrest you 😱🤣

She had already spoken to him when she wrote the OP and was still talking about disappointed and shocked she was and how she would never have expected it and how she doesn't know where to begin with it.

She took his phone and banned him from the playstation but worst of all shamed him for just being a kid and asking a silly question, I bet he won't forget that feeling.
I stand by what I said, her response was awful.
