Underrated, simple foods or meals

Sometimes I think there is nothing better than just a plain cheese sandwich. Bread, a nice crumbly mature cheese, butter.

Sure, I love a cheese ploughmans with all the trimmings and pickle. I love a cheese and salad. But I just think a plain cheese sandwich very often gets overlooked. It’s simple but delicious.

Similarily, sometimes I think you can’t beat just butter on toast.

I’m just curious what other simple foods or meals others enjoy.

What I look forward to most after being abroad is a simple cheese sandwich. With just cheese and butter in it, nothing else.

I miss the days when you could get an ordinary sandwich in a pub or cafe. Like cheese, ham or egg (preferably on white crusty bread for me). Wherever you go these days all you find are things like chorizo with goats cheese and sun dried tomatoes on sourdough. But maybe it's just a Bristol thing. Yes, there's a time and a place for fancy sarnies but sometimes you just want a basic sandwich with a side of crisps.

Ha ha- same here over in Bath - it’s why I tend to fallback on ham and cheese toasties

Oh yes of course, Bath. Proper hipster vibes over there too! Perhaps we should start a "real" sandwich shop.

Re egg in a cup i.e. mashed up boiled egg with a bit of butter and salt? Is this an Irish thing? We always got that when I was a kid (yummy) but most other people I've mentioned it too have never had it except my sister in law who's Dad is Irish. Perhaps I can clear it up now? Seems basic like it would be a thing everywhere but perhaps not?

Edited

I’m Irish and we had egg in a cup with loads of butter.
