A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

On Labour generally, I think there’s room to go down yet for the party if anyone is still backing Labour. Not quite at the bottom of where they could go.

It’s something to see the infighting between factions and again with old (New) Labour, who up until recently appeared to be an mn favourite with SureStart etc and a promise of more of the same to the 90s / 00s. Now that’s toast too.

It gets easier to zone out as it is definitely their mess rn.

Yes, it has kept me entertained today. As usual, they save their most savage character assassinations for their ex-believers and heretics. Tony Blair as the new far right has me in stitches.

It appears we’re to believe in 70s Labour now the 00s is out.

I remember that loud tinny rendition from the Brexit protestor a poor, annoying copy. Seemed about right 😬

I wish they'd turned the camera round to get a look at him to see if he was sporting a bucket hat and rave whistle while he attempted to manifest the Labour glory days - which are now a disgrace - I can't keep up.

Oh, well...I will just desist before there is a run of deletions. I don't pay much attention so it wouldn't be out of character to be largely oblivious about this stuff.

Although, in the spirit of today's vibe on MN, you do realise we will have to fight with knives now we disagree on something 😁

Haha 😂 😂 🔪

I haven't got time rn for a duel, I'm busy ruining our dinner. Lumpy lemon chicken anyone?

@Upstartled thank you

I didn't want to make an assumption

I was also thinking "have I fallen into a stereotype rabbit hole where this person assumes that people who object to the one will object to a gay couple" and I can't think of anything madder. The only gay people I know also object to the hotels.

I just cannot understand why anyone would draw an equivalence - but it does seem to be a lefty trend of putting all views in one box. I remember someone accusing Douglas Murray of being homophobic - person in question did not realise that Douglas Murray is actually gay.

it was one of those moments that crystallised the whole "how stereotypes form" thing, but as I cut the conversation off, I can't necessarily assume that's where they were going. I can't think of any other way it would have relevance though.

I think he's just trying to warn against a lurch to the left, which seems inevitable if there's a leadership contest from the noises Labour are making. TB has a good nose, and can see where things are headed if Labour don't change course.

TB saw Gordon Brown outside Downing Street and decided he had to speak now.

GB interfered in Scottish and Welsh politics behind the scenes I remember him during the lockdowns stirring the pots.

He was a useless prime minister as TB knew he would be.

Nuthatch26 · 27/05/2026 19:10

@SapphireCasino Your interludes are very welcome - always.

Thats totally batshit imo. What has being gay got to do with one's views on asylum seekers? This is another example of certain demographics being expected to fit into their expected box. I hate that.

DH cooked some bratwurst on the BBQ I'd marinated some chicken drumsticks and cooked them last night. We had that with salad. No-one could face the hob or oven 😂

Sounds good. We're having Nandos now. 😂

Is it still hot where you are? Its too cold and windy for a bbq here.

The fact we have a current thread running asking if 'Tony Blair' is Far Right now explains why this country has a steep mountain to climb, for any improvement. Blair's essay just outlines the 'bleeding' obvious. Blairs points and views should be a starting point, for which I would go political right of. Blairs essay espouses views which for the majority of the 81 years since the Second World War, would have been regarded as very 'centralist' in nature . These being a strong Military a system that protects our borders from unworthy invasion, or from those who over the country no benefit, a country which grows annually at 2-3% and one which lives or (tries to live within its means) Meaning control of Welfare and underpinning of a sense of pride in working.

There's a thread elsewhere that asks about summer jobs for teenagers. From two sources this week I've heard not only is the pay too high but these kids living at home are happy to work part-time so you organise the rotas which they agree to then on the day phone in with some excuse because they've enough ££s burning a hole in their pocket for a shopping/drinking trip with mates.

SapphireCasino · 27/05/2026 20:26

@redange I thought of you when I was walking the woods today

I came to a network of paths that I haven't seen before and decided I better go right because surely going left couldn't come to any good 😂

that thread is shocking but most posters seem to think that person who started it is being absolutely ridiculous. I see there are some deletions. No idea what was said there.

@Nuthatch26 thank you. Yes, I did wonder if I was just making an unfair assumption. Until a year or so ago. only seen ridiculous people on television who have those kind of view to be honest - I mean lumping everybody in to a set of views because of their sexuality or their race for example.

I also finally caught up with the Badenoch interview on Triggernometry which now seems older than it is. I think it's from February 2025. She was really impressive. They also raised the point that it's better to have certain things being said by a black woman because no one else can say them

She said quite rightly that that's a terrible situation to be in. I mean, I do know how we got here, but I was rather hoping that the crazy was dying out - until that conversation today.

Another U turn from Burnham. The Times count 5 now since he was announced as the Labour candidate.

Andy Burnham no longer believes migrants should be given immediate access to the benefits system in another policy U-turn by the Labour leadership hopeful.
The mayor of Manchester has consistently campaigned against a longstanding government policy that bars migrants from accessing the welfare state until they obtain permanent residence.

Andy Burnham drops migrant benefits call in fresh U-turn

The would-be prime minister no longer says they should have immediate access to public funds, his fifth policy shift in the run up to the Makerfield by-election

Yeah. He knows he’s against Reform.

I expect another u -turn if he wins, so that’ll be the full 360.

SapphireCasino · 27/05/2026 20:33

@Nuthatch26 I wonder if that means he's looking at the economy or getting feedback from doorstep campaigns.

Neither, I suppose.

He’s looking at the polls.
