How attractive do you think you are?

Inspired by a conversation I had about the sub Reddit ‘Rate me’ where people put a picture of themselves up and ask strangers to rate them out of 10 based on how physically attractive they are. Screams of either insecurity or narcissism to me, but got me wondering - how physically attractive do you think you are? What would you rate yourself out of 10? How did you arrive at that number? Eg. What evidence do you have for it? Do you think you’re average or above or below average? Do you think most people perceive themselves as more or less attractive than they actually are? Most of the time, are you happy or unhappy with what you see in the mirror?

I’m probably about 5, when I lose weight maybe a 6 but I don’t know, failing eyesight is a wonderful thing!

I’m 62, can’t take HRT, everything is heading south apart from my boobs which are surprisingly good for my age. I’ve never considered myself attractive but I’m told I am.
My DH still thinks I’m a 10 and he’s the only one that matters.

My super power is my smile, my natural openness and my inability to flirt so men are much more comfortable around me. It is a much bigger threat to other women.

As women we spend most of our lives preoccupied with our outward appearance, it’s not until they fade that we realise that what attracts others to us is much deeper.

That’s so lovely that your husband still rates you as a 10. You are a lucky lady

Overworkedandknackered · 14/05/2026 16:44

I’ve not got a conventionally attractive face but I think I’m quite nice looking, on an average day with no make up I don’t think you’d notice me, but if I do myself up and wear nice clothes I can turn heads.

mmmarmalade · 14/05/2026 16:47

Honestly, I never think about it and I only have one mirror in the house by the front door which I only look in to see if my beret is on how I like it.

Squirrelchops1 · 14/05/2026 16:51

I think I fulfil the saying

'Body off Baywatch...face off Crimewatch' ...even more so if looking down into my phone.

FlatWhiteExtraHot · 14/05/2026 16:57

Maybe a 2? On a good day. In my 50s I’ve still got awful skin due to acne scarring, although very few wrinkles so I suppose that’s a win. I look like my dad but with long hair which doesn’t help 😂. His face looked better on him.

ImImmortalNowBabyDoll · 14/05/2026 17:16

I was a 10 in my 20s although I maybe didn't realise it. I'm probably a 7 or 8 now, I still get told I'm beautiful by strangers a lot. Of course, this is all through the lens of 2026 Britain- I might be considered horrendously ugly in 1600s Brazil or Ancient Rome.

Bucolic · 14/05/2026 17:17

I’m very conceited, so think I’m very attractive 😂 I do get told I’m pretty, pretty often. I’m also 53, so I’m making the most of it until it all falls off a cliff.

I’m tall and slim - that definitely helps. I won some sort of genetic lottery as I have 3 sisters who are all about 5’3 and my parents were short too.

Are all the people saying they are an 8 or 9 comparing against the likes of Margot Robbie, Victoria secret models etc?
I.e the 10 out of 10s in most of society's standards.
That's a lot of very attractive mumsnetters! Or is there another comparison scale being used?

But if you walked past a VS model in the street, would your first thought be, "OMG she's so beautiful!" or would you be more likely to notice that she's extremely tall, extremely thin and has extremely large boobs for her frame?

There's lots of people out there with very beautiful faces and very nice bodies and only a tiny proportion are ALSO the right shape and size to be a VS model.

So yeh, I'll throw myself out there and say I am (or was) as pretty as a VS model, I'm just a completely different kind of pretty which you won't see on a catwalk.

Depends on the person looking, for Me, yes I’d notice rheir beauty first, and I’d not think they are extremely thin either, usually these models are incredibly fit, rather than simply just very thin,

your post reads a little Jealous.

Does it? That's entirely in your reading. I haven't ever wanted to look like a catwalk model. They are fit but they are also very young, tall and thin. They also have beautiful faces and hair, but that, on it's own, does not make someone suitable to be a VS model. Catwalk models need to be quite straight up and down too as the curves interfere with the drape of clothes- lingerie models get away with slightly more shape. I actually think Eva Longoria is one of the most beautiful women in the world, and (despite her role as Gabby is DH) could never be a catwalk model, she's just not the right build for it.

I’m really not getting your point to be honest, other than to be disdainful of vs models.

HotTiredDog · 14/05/2026 17:32

Smoothing out the good & bad days to establish a trend in physical appearance only:
Teens - low.
20s - high but had no clue
30s - high and occasionally knew it.
40s - scores declining each year, not terribly bothered.
50s - declining still, caring less.
60s - just entered this period & frankly don’t give a monkey’s.

eta - guess that’s pretty much the same as all naturally aging women

PGmicstand · 14/05/2026 17:34

Physically maybe 3
Humour 7
Intelligence 7
And obviously modesty 1

HumbleKatey · 14/05/2026 17:35

I’d give myself 5 out of 10.

blackheartsgirl · 14/05/2026 17:35

ive never been a beauty but I’ve never been short of male attention so there must have been something there lol

However I’m 48 now and I’ve suddenly got really old looking since dh died 5 years ago. Suddenly become invisible which is quite nice in some ways.

This is one of those threads that could go downhill very quickly. But here goes..... I dont really have an answer as I can be a 2 on some days and an 8 on others. I photograph really badly (a bit like Princess Beatrice, I have big eyes that can look appealing in real life, but like bug eyes on film). If Im rested and made up my features work and I can look very glowy and glamorous. Tired and depressed - I look older and grey. So if you see me on one day you might rate me, see me on another day and it would be the reverse. I think thats probably true of many people, you just have to accept that everyone has intrinsically lovely and also some unattractive features, and just try to make the best of it all.

Perfect description - I agree with this too

and my hair has to be fluffed up, eyeliner good, less bloated from sugar and eating well to look a good 8-9
bad days around a 3

I didn't think that saying there are types of beauty not represented by VS would be controversial to be honest, and I don't know where you are reading the disdain or jealousy.

Are you arguing that there are no beautiful women who are not 5'10" and a size 6? Or are you saying that if you think some women who are not tall and thin are beautiful you must think tall, thin women are not beautiful?

You're being weird.

the80sweregreat · 14/05/2026 14:58

I’m not photogenic either and I have round shoulders.
I either end up grimacing or it’s my bad side. I tend to avoid photos. Too self conscious. Some people look fabulous in photos even if they are fairly average looking!

I wonder why that is if it’s bone structure or type of features that makes them more photogenic

DesolatedCheese · 14/05/2026 17:43

4/5 generally, 8 done up, 2 in photos...

I have strong cheekbones and good facial features, but I don't wear make-up generally and am very pale, so look a bit shadowy and vampiric at times. I also have an hour glass figure but dress comfortably and for playing with 30 kids, so generally look overweight and lumpen instead.

I am incredibly non photogenic. I'm told my face is very expressive and mobile... I look mental when stopped in time in a photo as I'm shit at posing. (Fine on video!)

I genuinely scrub up very well if I choose to make an effort. It just doesn't happen often. Once every year or so for very special occasions. Last time was for mum's funeral, I imagine the next time will be Christmas or possibly the year after. I used to, but I got a lot of weird sexual stuff from men; much less now I don't try to look nice.

I think it's fair to say that if you're an 8 "done up", you are an 8. Even the most beautiful women in the world are rarely seen not "done up" and when they are, they are usually torn apart for having the temerity to be averagely beautiful rather than front-cover of vogue beautiful.

FunMustard · 14/05/2026 18:04

Sometimes when I look at myself in a mirror, I think 10/10. Then I am swiftly humbled by a camera lol!

SnowFrogJelly · 14/05/2026 18:04

Gawjusssss

Marble10 · 14/05/2026 18:11

I’d say 7 when I’m done up. Def not everyone’s cup of tea though - but the ones who are into my kind of look are really into me.

neveraskingtime · 14/05/2026 18:43

I've almost paid off my mortgage from a looks-based profession alone and at one time I was engaged to a rather beautiful runway model. Hard to say. I could never understand what he saw in me.
