The distinct smell of cannabis in places in our house...but it's not weed?

There are about 2 places in our house where we all get an overwhelming smell of weed! It's just bizarre. Downstairs hallway and toilet. It is definitely not cannabis and it's not neighbours either - terraced house but our neighbours are in their 70s and def not smokers.

Is there anything else that smells like weed that we should be exploring? Under floorboards etc. Thanks

I've had this! Drove me mad. It was downstairs hallway too. I cleaned the shoe cabinet with vinegar spray and washed all the hats/ gloves etc that were stored in rattan baskets. Threw out the baskets (they were old and tatty anyway) - I think they were actually the source of the smell but I was never 100% sure. Anyway the smell is gone now so happy days.

Interesting! Maybe I need to do a deep clean. I mean, we are really clean but go the extra mile.

I had a weird smell in my hall for a while and it turned out to be a particular plant. It wasn't that niffy and I wasn't sure it was the plant, but once it was removed, it all smells fresh and nice again! I think it can be the soil as much as the plant. Just a thought.

Could be a plant, mould or damp.

No plant in hallway. No apparent mould. It's so DISTINCTIVELY cannabis

Omg we have the exact same problem !
I wa stinking neighbours or my dd ! I even said to her , look it’s fine if you are vaping a weed type vape , but please just admit it ! But no it’s not that ( and she is 19 so would tell me ). I am baffled . Could it be drains ? A dead mouse ? Haven’t a clue , would love the answer too !

This might be odd OP, but have you had any new carpets fitted recently?
We had some laid recently and they definitely a similar aroma. The smell was contained within the wrapping it came in, like it was part of the factory process or something

Mould?

Rubber/ neoprene? We had a couple of wetsuits which smelled like this and drove me nuts until I worked it out.

My first thought is get your electrics looked at. I always think the smell of weed is similar to the smell of burning rubber or plastic.

Wellies? I always think a certain type or rubber smells like weed. I always noticed it in the shoe section in primark!

It was children's wetsuits in our house. Smell went overnight when we identified them as the potential culprit and has never returned.

Are any of you epileptic and take epilim, that smells of weed!

Bat shit smells of weed. As do other animal droppings but they’re less likely to be found in the UK

Have you acquired a maned wolf as a pet? They smell of weed.
If not, look at the area outside your front door - could anyone be in a neighbouring garden or porch or alleyway smoking weed and the breeze is wafting it into your house?

In my experience damp carpet or underlay (in our case caused by a slow leaking pipe) can give off a weed smell. Also my dad has a pair of shoes, god knows what they’re made of, that smell like weed!

You should get your boiler checked as sometimes a weird smell is a low level gas leak. Also your toilet/pipes could be leaking. Animal urine can smell like this too so you might want to check for rodents under the floor/walls.

Do you have rhododendron in your garden? Certain types have a very strong smell of weed. I too thought my neighbours all smoked it when I first moved to the house but have learnt that it is only for a few weeks every spring when the plants are in flower.

The carpet layer we used was smoking weed whilst he laid them!

Have you got a cat? I think some of their catnip toys stink of weed.

A friend has this though I thought it smelled more like a welly boot plasticy kinda smell. Was her drains.

Tom cat wee can smell like it I think..

Do you have any plant bulbs in the room? Last year we went to a flower show and bought fritillaria bulbs. They stunk the car and house out just like weed!
