That's great @MsJinks all I've heard so far from DS is he got to carry a massive Palestine flag!

I’m just in from playing in my Concert Band’s 130th anniversary concert and watching the end of Eurovision with a very large gin

So glad Bulgaria won! It's a great song.

Good to hear MsJinks

I think the non official figures for your march are more in the 20k area, not sure what your spotters counted.

There were way, way more than 20k - that’s ridiculous- where is it? The spotters counted it all in one - is that the difference? So we marched on the Palestine March - I could potentially think it was split 80/20 - though we were all together - it was huge - really huge.

One set of figures put us at 250k - equally ridiculous tbh, but I’d be confident from looking at what I could see at between 80 and 110 - not mega at counts yet or guesstimates.

I didn’t personally see Tommeh’s but saw some live feed and it was much much sparser than September and I’d say between 30k to 40k - looking at how streets were filled this is.

I saw 5 stray Tommeh fans sat on a park wall but they were quiet enough whilst we shouted Nazi scum at them - not sure that’s nice but feels good - last time we got called slags, sluts and had piss thrown at us so maybe not as bad as all that what we do haha.

It was great - great vibe throughout the March as far as I could see - lots of music and shouting and cheer.

If that’s his thing - supporting Palestine he will be super buzzed I think - I am still!

We had a lot of non march support as well - that is people shopping were also whistling and cheering and running alongside - very different to September.

Well done to your boy - I think folk don’t need to do this bit at all to support - but it’s amazing when they can and do.

Rather beastly of them.

MsJinks · 17/05/2026 11:19

I hunted down my post - guessing as some said ref the March - thank you @TemperanceWestand @DuncinToffeefor support there - I did think it was a fairly safe space here not to be picked up on elsewhere lol - and more than happy to stand by my actions if challenged here too or debate further.

Ah well - probably haven’t helped much there - I did say it’s common on both sides to do this when coming across other side so they can only have been surprised it was so mild, in keeping with our general message, and not at all violent.

I actually feel it might have been nice rather than not so nice now!!

It's actually against MN T&C to drag stuff from one thread to another - really it should be reported

It is odd. There have been lots of posts and photos on that thread demonstrating the hideousness of the marchers. Yet a poster chooses to home in on your post on this thread.

Piggywaspushed · 17/05/2026 11:29

Being a Nazi isn't as of yet a protected characteristic or one of those things you aren't allowed to put on a poster at a demonstration so you're fine jinks.

Notonthestairs · 17/05/2026 11:36

Monitoring posts again? Can’t help themselves.

It's not odd at all really. Just par for the course for some posters.

cardibach · 17/05/2026 12:27

Streeting says he’ll stand if there’s a leadership contest then? How does that work? I assume subsequent challengers don’t need the 81 names - but if he can’t get them how is he likely to succeed? And it looks like he agitated to get Burnham in just so he could have a go himself. He can’t think all this makes him somehow popular with the party members?

BIossomtoes · 17/05/2026 13:18

I don’t think Streeting has ever been popular with party members. If Burnham wins the by-election my money’s on him being a shoe in. A Manchester poster on another thread says they do “proper Labour” up there.

DuncinToffee · 17/05/2026 13:23

There was a discussion on a football forum on whether or not Burnham wearing an Everton shirt would put voters off. The general consnsus was that it showed him to be passionate about a local team and being a local boy and that the team colours wouldn't matter much.

The shorts were a different discussion altogether

I agree, @BIossomtoes. If Burnham were to win there, he would already have won a challenging by-election and demonstrated that he could beat Reform in an area where they won big in the local elections recently.

TemperanceWest · 17/05/2026 14:55

Streeting stands zero chance. He has blown it.

An area where he’s local. That’s not necessarily going to translate.

Point taken. But it will look encouraging to a party who would be deciding who to vote for in a leadership contest.

Do you think Burnham can win the by-election?

I've a feeling that he will not, Reform will throw everything at this, already re-joining the EU is being dragged up against AB, as are his earlier views on the TWAW stuff & i don't think people like being used in order to gain power for him.

This whole saga is so sad for Labour and more importantly the country, we are in for months of infighting and a lack of governance, all at a time that we need strong leadership more than ever.

Its all a terrible distraction & anyone who thinks a new leader will change the polling numbers, let alone win another GE is mistaken.

Maybe its all a cunning plan to make Starmer look a titan among minnows as he sees off Burnham and Streeting.....

BIossomtoes · 17/05/2026 18:01

I think that’s an incredibly pessimistic view @Alexandra2001. I’d be interested in hearing from the Makerfield voters. Those of us who spend too much time on MN get an inflated idea of how much credence trans issues are given, most people don’t care. And movement back towards the EU is pretty popular with progressive voters.

The real advantage Burnham has is that he can point to a successful track record of achievement which Makerfield voters have experienced first hand. Hopefully Reform throwing the kitchen sink at the campaign will turn more voters off than it convinces.

Sincerely yours, Pollyanna.

Yes perhaps i am but i'm very pee'd off with recent events, sooo much to put right in this country but months wasted now, by the time this is sorted, Labour will be heading towards half their allotted time in Govt.

Plus i never rated Burnham when he was a minister, which i will admit colours my view.

But should he win & a contest is launched, i hope its a quick contest and they get back to Governing the country.

Heaven knows what 'll happen if he does not.

placemats · 17/05/2026 19:13

It's all moot though via MSM. Andy Burnham, and I hope he wins, will be an excellent addition to Parliament.

The thing is will he leave the Mayoral election open for a Reform win? He must surely know that might happen.
