Thanks so much for the lovely messages. May our husbands live long and prosper. I don’t agree with the political positions on here but I do think you are decent people who have heartfelt views.

TemperanceWest · 16/05/2026 11:20

The Greens are planning on standing a candidate. Caroline Lucas has said she thinks they should be putting country before party by not doing so.

Strange times indeed.

Agree - is Caroline Lucas still a member of the Green party? - wikipedia doesn't say either way only that she is now Professor of Env studies at one of the Brighton unis

We may be over cautious but from experience these kind of treads started by a brand new username have an agenda.

Just be careful because they often turn nasty.

Oh you put it out there and it may surprise a few people. racists won’t be changed but there is actually an interesting discussion on there as well. You need a thick skin, as well as knowing some people just thick.

Justanothernamele · 16/05/2026 11:40

So glad about your news @derxa

Efacsen · 16/05/2026 11:52

IDK @cardibach Burnham does seem to enjoy immense personal popularity in some quarters - along the lines of 'he's one of us' 'he's a local' etc that I've also seen/ read about as @Piggywaspushed describes

Whether that will be enough to swing it his way who knows - plus also obv who the other parties chose as their candidate

Maybe I’m basing it on the fact that if I were in that constituency and had voted for Simons and then he stood down at vast expense to allow a man I don’t have a lot of time for (and who has had 2 chances at Labour leadership already) to advance his personal career ambitions while destabilising government at a dangerous time and giving the right wing real ‘we need a GE’ ammunition (nobody voted for a labour MP in a party led by Burnham), plus feeling he shouldn’t change the manifesto massively anyway because there’s no mandate for that (so what’s the point?) then I wouldn’t be voting Labour this time.

I totally agree with this. I would be very peeved if I lived in that constituency. I used to like Burnham and I know he's done well in Manchester but I've got no time for these sort of games.

Same goes for Streeting. Both of them have seen an opportunity to advance their careers but think they can disguise it as being for the good of the party/country.

This is a reasonable response and close to my thoughts on the situation. I do like Andy Burnham and have voted for him as potential leader.

From the onset of a massive mandate for Labour to lead the Government into change, there has been changes for the better, the msm has consistently attacked the Government and has given the opposition, especially Reform UK, an easy time.

This Labour Government hasn't even reached two full years yet.

This current inner coup against Keir Starmer is destabilising and unnecessary.

BestIsWest · 16/05/2026 12:12

I voted for Burnham years ago when he lost to Corbyn. I’m still cross at him.
The TRIP podcast seemed to tout the ideal scenario as Burnham as PM with Starmer as Foreign sec. He would be excellent at that.

Incidentally anyone seen @SerendipityJane. I am missing her pithy comments.

It appears the MET has now arrested 2 men (near Euston station attending the utk march) on suspicion og GBH to this incident.

As a local candidate he may well succeed. For the first time I’m actually wondering whether it would be best for Labour to lose a by election though. I’m so angry about it and genuinely don’t think Burnham would be as good a PM as Starmer. And he doesn’t have the local advantage in a national role.

Wow, they are busy.
Knock someone down in a van one day, marching for 'British values' the next.

Presumably the police are using facial recognition in the train stations.

They aren't peeved in the constituency though. Vox Pops suggest the opposite, in fact.

cardibach · 16/05/2026 12:42

We’ll see soon enough @Piggywaspushed
I wouldn’t necessarily trust Vox pops though

dontcallmelen · 16/05/2026 14:17

@MsJinks really hope all goes well today & most importantly stay safe
@BIossomtoes glad the Dh has a positive pathway for treatment 💕
was also wondering if Jane was ok
glad to read your good news as well @derxa
I’m still mightily pissed off with whole debacle with Streeting & Burnham it’s destabilising & smacks of self promotion & putting themselves first had enough of that nonsense with Tories.

derxa · 16/05/2026 09:14

Thanks so much DH has gone through his treatment. He’s retiring soon and hopefully a new happy chapter will ensue.

Good news! Hope he enjoys his retirement.

How ironic that on today of all days someone has started this thread: "Would you say non-white people born & raised in England are English?".

Haven't seen the thread in question yet, but I think that's a returning troll/PBP.

BIWI · 16/05/2026 14:24

Yes, it was a very goady thread, but there have been robust responses to racist posts on there, which has been encouraging to see.

No. It was the UK's largest land mammal back as fast moving bird.

If one is banned one can re enter with a different email address. HQ does seem to have spotted this really swiftly perhaps due to some badgering.

Oh. I thought it was a different pbp! Who knows, there are quite a few of them knocking about!
