‘Can dead people inherit money?’

‘If you put disposable nappies in the bin without removing the poo, they decompose’

It just doesn't change what you weigh. Maybe the poo will take off a few ounces but showering and having your hair up won't.

I think whatever makes weighing in more comfortable is a good thing but they talk some serious nonsense at SW to people who are in a vulnerable spot.

The other thing is that it only works to your benefit once. After the first time of shaving off a little from your total by having shiny, empty bowels, taking off all your jewellery and glasses (if you wear them), emptying your pockets etc.... you've just upped the ante for the next and all future times, so you need to do the same every single time just to 'break even'!

Friend- “when they build tunnels under water, how do they keep the water out while they build it?”
Me- “they don’t, they build it under the sea/river bed.”
Friend- “but the water must be trying to pour in all the time”
Me- “They build the tunnel under the ground, the water is on top of the ground”
Friend- “I don’t understand”
This conversation went on for about 10 minutes. I gave up in the end.

This is the time for a MN diagram 🤣

I have to admit to this one. Dsis worked for a while in a pet shop when we were late teens and brought a fish home one weekend in a brand new tank with all the bits and bobs, including the obligatory castle.

Me: How did you know what size tank to get?
Her: Fish can grow to the size of their tank*
Me: How do they turn round?

😳

*this is actually a myth, but they can become stunted in too small a tank, and grow to the size they're supposed to be in the right size.

Her having children can be viewed as a service to future society.

Probably a Reform voter. Women should be barefoot and pregnant.

And that's great.

I absolutely love watching these.

I still fondly remember the one where they asked for a song with the word 'green' in the title - and the contestant said "Green suede shoes" Grin

Obviously only by a very insignificant amount, but the water in your hair and the weight of the hair band add up! I weigh myself in stones and lbs only, and that tiny amount might be enough to push me over to the next lb 😁

With fish, their organs continue to grow to their intended size too, resulting in illness and twisted guts etc if they're kept in too small a place. I don't know if this is the case for all fish but definitely for a lot of the ones we often keep in tanks and ponds etc.

One of my friends didn’t know what a Native American was at nearly 30 years old. I said have you never seen Pocahontas? The Disney film? Apparently not.
When I was a teenager I once overheard two boys from school discussing where girls wee came from. One of them was adamant it was the same hole periods come from.

When I was in my late teens I remember a boy saying he thought women peed from their bums. Honestly I do think there is a lot of confusion about this . It wouldn’t surprise me if some adult men don’t actually know where women pee from . Cringe

You do understand how society and humanity works with new generations being born to replace the older ones - and the crossover and eventual taking over of tasks and responsibilities, don't you? None of this compels any individual woman to have any children unless she wants to - but (fortunately for humanity), enough do freely make that choice to keep us from eventually dying out.

Not wishing to be blunt, but even if you live perfectly independently until you drop dead on your 110th birthday, somebody else's child (well, probably great-grandchild) will still be needed to collect and take your body away.

My 44 year old sister last month when preparing for a weekend trip to Belfast (from Newcastle) said "I'm all good, I've got my passport and been to the bank for my euros". 😂

You need photo ID though and euros are used there.

In response to the fact that I as a single/childfree person objecting to the fact that people with children pay nothing extra for them in council tax.

"My children may be looking after you when your old"

What a dumb thing to say.

But you dont need intelligence to post on mumsnet, Just an internet connection.

I hope he replied along the lines of - mummy cow and daddy bull love each other very much..,

tbh it’s the kind if clumsy thing I might ask when I meant how old are the cows when first calve.

@MyTrivia Thanks for this thread, I’m not feeling well and it’s kept me entertained

He really didn't realise that they had to give birth before they gave milk - he thought the milk just magically 'happened' when they reached a certain age. And, to be honest, the cows can be any age when they first give milk - it depends when they give birth!

An uncle, who is of below average height (this is relevant), that I see infrequently is rather over-invested in my decision (as a teen) to become vegetarian. I have never wanted to discuss it with him but if he ever sees me eating at a family wedding/funeral etc he brings it up. Interactions over the years have gone something like:

Uncle to teen-me- 'It's a faddy phase, you'll regret it, it will stunt your growth'
Me- 'It's not a phase, and anyway I am already taller than average so not worried.'
Uncle- 'You're only that height because you were fed meat when you were small. What you eat now will stunt your children's growth.'

Uncle to 20s me with perfectly normal sized DD- 'Haven't you grown out of that vegetarian thing yet? Tell me you're not making her eat rabbit food!'
Me- 'She is vegetarian if that's what you mean, but it's not a big deal nowadays'
Uncle- 'But it will stunt her growth'
Me- 'She's above average height for her age, so I'm not worried'.

Uncle to late 40s me with young adult DC- 'Bloody hell, STILL not grown out of your faddy eating!. Plant protein does stuff to hormones and will stunt your son's growth! He needs meat to be big and strong'
Me- [Points at very tall. muscular DS that Uncle had clearly forgotten would now be a fully grown man] 'Glad he's vegetarian then, or think how freakishly big he'd be!
Uncle- 'You need to stop going on about vegetarianism! We don't want it pushed down out throats!

Years ago I was telling a friend that DH and I were going on holiday to his birth country in the Caribbean. Her husband asked if they had knives and forks there!

My boss who ran a dairy farm told me about a male visitor they had to the farm. He asked 'at what age do the cows start giving milk?'

I was chatting to a women who lived on a farm which her parents owned and thought dairy cows were a different breed of cow than regular cows and produced milk naturally and would explode if they weren’t milked

BumCrocodile · 08/05/2026 15:50

First aid course at work. Discussing broken femurs. Colleague pipes up with "I didn't know you had a bone there". Not sure how they imagined standing/walking worked.

To be fair to her there are different breeds even with in dairy cows there different breeds and if not milked they can get mastitis etc so she's not far off with what she said

But surely they only commonly accept euros to make it easier for tourists/shoppers from RoI to come and spend money with them? There's no need for somebody from elsewhere in the UK to swap pounds Sterling for a foreign currency that also happens to be widely accepted there?!

GreenCaterpillarOnALeaf · 08/05/2026 16:26

My brother (who is kindhearted but genuinely a bit dim) used to not fully cook his chicken because it “tastes better mid rare”. This isn’t a parenting thing, the other 5 of us can all cook and know not to eat raw chicken. He was doing this till we found out when he was 20 and he served me undercooked at his house warming. I don’t know how he’s alive. He has 6 kids and they’re all pretty clever… SILs genes are doing some serious heavy lifting.

My eldest adult dd

(Prince George had just had his first birthday) 'is he king?'

'Im not scared of falling'
Me-'what are you scared of?'
Her-'landing'

'If you wake up dead,do you know your dead?'

'I've tried but I cant spell in capital letters'

Her pointing at her new pups bollocks
'What are those things?'
Me-his balls'
Her-'he has balls?'

I once rang her-'im doing an ET and just phoning home'
Her-'whos ET?'
Me-'oh its a movie,about an alien,from the 80's,Google it'
Her-'how do you spell ET?'

It's a laugh a minute around her

TBH I am with DD here, some of these are good points. Indeed it is not falling but landing that hurts, and I can't write in capitals without mixing the letters up.

Question: Name the most Northerly county in England.
Answer: Birmingham
