A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour* *government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Agreed. Pleased to see the greens lose ground in Richmond.

Yes agreed!!!

boys3 · 08/05/2026 15:47

Labour past 500 councillor losses (520) with 2853 still to be declared

boys3 · 08/05/2026 15:49

Just past half the seats in Sunderland now declared. Labour have so far won 3 of them.

SapphireCasino · 08/05/2026 15:59

Okay, results are in for my area
Probably came in earlier, but I didn't have a chance to look

Reform in comfortably. But more Green and Labour than I was expecting. I wonder if some of those people came out because they wanted to vote against Reform, which was a predictable result around here.

I'm obviously not a supporter of Reform but it's good that the overall direction is not left.

Numbers get surprisingly tight when you look at small wards.

Unions have demanded that Sir Keir Starmer resign in the wake of Labour’s disastrous local election results.

The bosses of Unison and the Transport Salaried Staffs Association (TSSA) called on the Prime Minister to quit after his party lost hundreds of councillors and control of several councils.

Andrea Egan, the general secretary of Unison, Britain’s largest union, warned that Labour faced “oblivion” unless Sir Keir steps down.

“What must change is not just the leader but the entire approach: only a Labour Government which always puts the interests of workers before the wealthy can succeed,” she said.

Maryam Eslamdoust, general secretary of the TSSA, added: “Unions like the TSSA will not stand by in the wake of this electoral disaster and let Keir Starmer pave the way for a hard-Right government led by Nigel Farage.”

Sorry for just media bombing.

As @Upstartledsaid plus I like updates, it means Starmer going might be closer.

Upstartled · 08/05/2026 16:10

Clive Lewis says Starmer should go...I mean, I know it says it frequently but for the avoidance of doubt, he said it again today.

boys3 · 08/05/2026 16:14

Speculation that the number of seats that Labour win for the Welsh Senedd may well not make it out of single figures.

Independents are doing well in my area taking seats from Labour. I suspect much of that is related to all the massive housing estates that were being waved through without any additional facilities or road/public transport improvements.

Plus everyone you speak to hasn't a good word for Starmer or our Labour MP.

WaffleBomb · 08/05/2026 16:16

I've been out for a bit so catching up with the result.

The % drops for Labour in Wales are enormous.
How can Bollard contemplate staying in office with results like these?

We can always rely on Clive Lewis. But, just as he ignores the electorate, Starmer just ignores Clive Lewis’s calls for him to resign. It’s just noise to him.

Sunderland - Reform gain from Labour

Reform +45 (and counting)
Labour -36

Labour now past 600 councillor losses.

boys3 · 08/05/2026 16:38

Labour leader of Camden council loses his seat in a three councillor ward no less. To the Greens though.

Labour had 45/55 councillors in Camden.

Seismic win on radio. Has been Labour since 1970s

Though about halfway through Camden’s results. Green success looks a bit patchy. Labour may end up with a majority there still albeit much reduced.

I'm sure some will still argue that Labour voters are not switching to Reform.

I just read that Rupert Lowes’ party has won all ten seats contested in Great Yarmouth, the only place they fielded candidates. No doubt they’re all horrible foam-flecked losers. But is this yet another fragmentation and one that could hurt Reform?

Politics has gone very strange.

Yeh what’s with that. Some stuff is just bizarre.

boys3 · 08/05/2026 16:49

The level of collective Labour denial is genuinely difficult to fathom.

According to Labour MP Preet Kaur Gill we all need to get our ears syringed - any excuse to expand the welfare bill.
