A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour* *government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Turnout high in Wales too. Looking forward to the result.

WALES I've only just got back home. Didn't listen to the radio in the car, overheard no gossip out shopping. Just opened up the BBC for results. There are none. The muttering on FB last night was that erasers would be employed all night. The number of people who took in a black pen to mark their cross was surprising. The senedd is really not trusted.

Labour currently down 393 seats with around 75% still to be declared.

On a simple - and totally unscientific - basis that would make Labour losses about 1,600. If you factor in Wales and Scotland that would surely be enough for any sentient party to throw out its liability of a leader.

But then I suppose it is Labour we’re talking about.

boys3 · 08/05/2026 14:19

John Swinney has been re-elected. 4 point drop for SNP. Labour last, Conservatives well ahead of Reform.

Separately in the Socialist Republic of South Yorkshire aka Sheffield Reform have so far gained 9 seats of the 21 so far declared. Only 30 seats up in this election.

You’d think that would be the case. But as you say it’s Starmer and Labour.

38thparallel · 08/05/2026 14:22

I thought the Greens were supposed to be neck and neck with Reform but that doesn’t seem to have happened.

Hallowedturf · 08/05/2026 14:11

I can only conclude that his would-be successors are bigger cowards than our man, Starmer.

The would-be successors the media flouts have every reason to be cowardly.

Left leaning, spook the markets, redistribution, redistribution, redistribution.

Starmer, bless his heart, has told us, things are bad but if he goes all that is left is chaos.

Would-be successors = Chaos!

boys3 · 08/05/2026 14:25

Lib Dem collapse in……….Shetland. SNP gain.

I always take a pen too.
I'm nervous for you, you must be on pins! Welsh Labour are briefing out that they expect to be reduced to about 10 seats.

It’s a pretty easy sell, the worse Labour do the easier it is to say vote for us

Even with their results on education, drug use, waiting times etc

Diane Abbott has things to say - photo from X attached.

She's the matriarch of labour now. I think Ann Widdicombe is the tory one.

I thought Shetland was an off-shore haven for the LibDems. Funny night for the Libs.

Its hard for us to get our heads around, which is why we're not Labour supporters. The tories would have ditched Starmer within his first year.
Labour being Labour just think that we, the electorate, just need Labour's brilliance explaining to us better. 😂

I will wet myself laughing if Starmer's big comeback on Monday is to announce closer ties with the EU, days after he's had his arse handed to him by Reform. You couldn't make it up.

I thought Shetland was an off-shore haven for the LibDems. Funny night for the Libs.

It's the Lib Demest of Lib Dem territory. I don't think the SNP even believed they could take it, but their candidate ahs a background in Energy and the Lib Dem council up there have been getting on a lot of people's nerves.

boys3 · 08/05/2026 14:33

Suffolk result not great for conservatives. Reform gain 42 seats, all bar one from conservatives.

boys3 · 08/05/2026 14:35

Sounds like results in Wales for Labour are potentially even more dire than predicted. Oh dear😄

Yeh any changes spook the markets, so they’re left with a giant liability electorally in Starmer.

Burnham might not even find a safe enough seat to run in. He’d really have to pull off the Burnham effect which apparently gives him a bounce (listening to Times)

justasking111 · 08/05/2026 14:43

Well if the Welsh don't finish counting by 5. We'll all be told to come back on Monday because no-one works weekends 🙈

SapphireCasino · 08/05/2026 14:44

@Hallowedturf at the time of the G&Dby election, I kept asking on here how it would help to have Andy Burnham, that he should choose to stay in the job he has, that it would be mad for him to try anything else

I didn't get it then, and I don't get it now, but perhaps now they get it - hardly anyone is voting Labour - I know we have a long way to go into this counting but he would be mad. On that basis, I've also said this before, I do think Starmer will be in place until 2029 because who else is going to want to take the job? I don't know what internal perks come with taking it though. I mean the ones that Joe public won't know about

@WaffleBomb yeah I was thinking that. He's so bizarrely at odds with what people actually want, I wouldn't put it past him to stand up and say that on Monday.

Edited

There’s no chance of that though is there?

“We’ve got to get beyond this thing of being in hock to the bond market.”

and

“There is a case to consider defence spending outside the fiscal rules,”

The Burnham effect according to Times Radio, differs I am sure from the Burnham effect perspective of the bond market.

A lot of the pollsters rate Burnham more highly (+20 approval rating) than the Labour Party and Starmer (-40s) and so they seem to think he'd have a better chance over your typical labour candidate.

Should have edited again was listening and typing, it was someone speaking not the actual presenters. A union type person.

Politically Burnham could get more votes, but Labour will likely suffer it out due to markets. Unless they make a move anyway.

boys3 · 08/05/2026 15:00

Newport Caesnewydd istwyn declaring now @justasking111 Reform ahead of Plaid. Labour way back in 3rd, 14% of vote. Turnout 48%

Seat allocation

Labour and Conservative 1 each
