The Telegraph is just desperate.

I have never owned a tumble dryer.

It's useless washer driers. The one we had used so much electrity and still the clothes weren't dry.

My a rated tumble dryer is in the dining room. It's running now because I have clothes to dry.

TemperanceWest · 04/05/2026 08:40

It doesn't work for me! I just get the circle of doom.

Happy Bank Holiday Monday everyone. I hope the sun 🌞 shows its face for you.

I think it is going to be a fun-filled week on MN. The spite and hate I have read this morning is something else.

Efacsen · 04/05/2026 08:47

The spite and hate

@TemperanceWest Exactly - particularly the spite in the ones I read - made me feel a bit ill

Also get the circle of doom

Grey here but at least it's stopped raining.

I think mumsnet, this week, will be summed up as my DD can't be a bridesmaid because immigrants, Zac Polanski ate my baby and Starmer's neighbour's ex wife's dad's dog's nanny claims PIP and went on holiday to Florida.

DuncinToffee · 04/05/2026 08:51

It's nor working for me either Blossom

Sorry. Here you go:

REFORM UK has pledged to build new detention centres for illegal migrants in areas that vote Green if it wins the next general election.

Nigel Farage’s party said it would “prioritise” sending migrants where there are Green councils or MPs because Zack Polanski’s party supports “open borders”.

The announcement comes as both Reform and the Greens are expected to make significant gains in council elections on Thursday.

The Green Party is projected to make inroads against Labour in metropolitan areas such as London, Newcastle, Cambridge and Manchester.

Reform, meanwhile, is eyeing wins in former industrial towns such as Walsall and Hartlepool, as well as traditional Tory heartlands such as Essex.

The party says it will build detention centres to hold up to 24,000 migrants who were awaiting deportation at any one time.

Zia Yusuf, Reform’s home affairs spokesman, has now disclosed that none of the new centres would be built in areas that elect Reform councillors or MPs. “Even though illegal migrants will not be allowed to leave the sites, we are committing to not placing these detention sites in areas with a Reform MP or where Reform controls the council,” he told The Telegraph.

“Given the Green Party advocates for open borders and for an infinite number of undocumented men to come here, we will prioritise Green constituencies and Green-controlled councils to locate these detention centres.

“This is the fairest approach to ensuring democratic consent for all aspects of our mass deportation programme.”

Reform has said it will deport all illegal migrants if it wins the next general election – including those who have arrived on small boats and claimed asylum. Mr Yusuf said that the party would achieve that aim by passing a law to ensure that the building of detention centres could not be obstructed by legal challenges.

The legislation would list specific council areas and constituencies where detention centres would be built.

Mr Yusuf said the areas to be chosen would be based on an analysis of election results up to and including the next general election, with Green areas prioritised. He highlighted an internal Green document on migration policy which stated that the party “wants to see a world without borders”.

The Greens’ website also lists one of its policies as “an end to immigration detention for all migrants unless they are a danger to public safety”.

Reform’s new Act would compel the home secretary to build detention centres in Green areas, circumventing procurement and planning rules.

A Green Party spokesman said: “Reform keep making unserious announcements to try and distract voters from they fact they want to privatise our NHS.”

It's Yusuf's wet dream, concentration camps.

Does he really think those that would want them wouldn’t send him in alongside? Or is he pre purchasing a get out of jail card. Sigh.

BIossomtoes · 04/05/2026 09:00

I think it’s hysterical. If they were serious about deporting asylum seekers they wouldn’t need to build detention centres.

Yes indeed - sigh.

Another thread (mildly I guess lol) says Starmer is the worst PM in memories going back to Thatcher - this obviously means previously leftie liberals should vote Reform - people have very short memories - I’m still paying more on my mortgage than pre Truss though so I can’t forget that one - don’t know how people do!

It’s all so vile - but they’re also very inconsistent in what they say generally but people don’t seem to join any dots.

Notonthestairs · 04/05/2026 09:05

Do you think we could get Brexit voting areas to cover all costs resulting from Brexit?
You vote for it, you pay for it?

We couldn’t do that because it’s illegal.
Yusuf’s gibberish is too and would get bogged down in legal challenges.

But it will thrill a certain segment of Reform voters. And that’s all it’s designed to do. Not the brightest bulbs.

Yes 24k is a lot of people

And Bristol, Brighton etc are such inexpensive areas with lots of open space to build these places

Exactly. Good luck with that in Cambridge where the university basically owns a big chunk of the land.

Efacsen · 04/05/2026 09:24

Building anything of any size in Brighton is a huge problem because of the narrow flat coastal plain and high density of buildings [see Amex stadium] - same in Bristol also very hilly and densely populated

Though both cities have quite nice big flat parks that are just sitting there waiting to be developed

Good point. I guess they could build along The Backs or on one of the commons in Cambridge.

cardibach · 04/05/2026 09:32

And putting it out now suggesting they can control that if they win a few councils is the worst sort of manipulation anyway.
In other news could this be why Starmer is so hated? Everyone is seeing a load of nonsense made up by foreign AI channels? https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2025/dec/13/fake-anti-labour-video-billion-views-youtube-2025

countrygirl99 · 04/05/2026 09:32

I guess the price if land in/near Cambridge would kill that idea pretty quickly but the could go to the Fens which are pretty Brexit central. I'm sure they would welcome the detention camps 😁
