I’m not talking about going on marches, but minor things, that you know about.

Mine is I won’t play Michael Jackson songs, after all the alleged behaviour, which certainly wouldn’t be accepted by today’s standards.

The second is I won’t buy McCain products, after they put out an advert for Smileys, which referred to ‘knocker’s’ in them. I thought that language had died out in the seventies.

good grief and you call them friends?

Not now, no 😉.
It just shows you how embedded it is, though.

Michael Jackson was innocent.

I teach my boys to be manly.

Manly like the innocent and very traditionally masculine seeming MJ?!

this is a group convo.

I know it’s a group convo. You replied directly to what I said, so I replied to that. I was talking about assumptions people make about me, not inviting a side-by-side comparison of how feminine either of us looks.

I suppose he never had any surgery and was alabaster white due to "vitiligo" too?

Guilty as the day is long.

He actually did have vitiligo, it’s on the autopsy report.
I still believe he lightened his skin, though it may have been as a result of choosing to do that rather than be patchy.

  1. wont do botox
  2. wont dye my har
  3. I won’t shop with Tescos when they decide to put the trans flag on as you open the app. Trans flag is pretty much the same as a Misogyny flag and I refuse to shop there whilst they’re doing that.
  4. I don’t buy from Temu

I’d like to stop Amazon. But it’s difficult as my children love Dino Dana!

In the olden days forms often had a box marked sex. The expectation was that one would write M or F. I was always tempted to write "regularly", but never dared.

or "yes please"

I have a set of earrings that are only three little green, white and purple gems.

I'm veggi and won't buy halal or kosher (not many local places sell kosher but we live in an area where there are many halal take aways etc) for my family.

Edited

Love the earrings 😍

I posted your quote, not because I was replying directly to you but to give the context of my post.

Just out of interest, what do you define as 'manly'?

punkhairbrush · 20/04/2026 09:44

I unfollow any white western celebs who are extreme pro Palestine activists and yet refuse to acknowledge the depravity and sexual violence that happened on 7th October - these privileged (mainly) women are feeding into the anti semitic rhetoric that is thriving in the U.K. and wouldn’t last a second within a HAMAS or IRGC controlled country! I can’t stand the hypocrisy.

scalt · 20/04/2026 09:44

I closed my PayPal account.

I take down signs and stickers about social distancing. There are not many now, but I got rid of lots in parks, bus stops, car parks etc in 2020 and 2021.

If anyone says “because of the pandemic” on social media, I correct it to “because of LOCKDOWN”, especially concerning the harms to children.

I have a little vitilligo on my hands. I use a tinted spf to darken the paler patches to make them less noticeable. Much easoer than vice versa.

askmenow · 20/04/2026 09:45

I won’t eat anywhere that does halal or kosher

I refuse to eat sweets that are deliberately removing gelatine and labelling as halal/vegan….looking at you Rountrees whose fruit gums are now tasteless glue.
They used to be lovely as a low calorie fruity treat now and are now coloured meh.

I will buy only chocolate containing no palm oil. Any other inmho only useful for cooking.

I check meat labelling to ensure that it’s not killed in a halal approved abattoir.

AnnaQuayRules · 20/04/2026 09:46

Great thread.

I haven't (knowingly) bought any Nestle products for 40 years.

I have refused to buy Shell petrol/diesel since Ken Saro Wiwa was murdered.

I've got a purple/green/white lanyard for my work id.

SanDimasHighSchoolFootballRules · 20/04/2026 09:46

I refuse to use a local independent pizza place near me because when my dog went missing about 12 years ago, they refused to put a missing poster up in their window. (I did eventually find my dog, happy and healthy but they will never have a penny of my custom)

5128gap · 20/04/2026 09:47

I use my professional seniority to level the playing field for disadvantaged groups. I'm particularly invested in mentoring and supporting other women.
I've quietly changed the box that says gender on our forms so that it now says sex to ensure we collect reliable stats on issues pertaining to women.

GrandmasCat · 20/04/2026 09:47

I don’t go to Pret A Manger as they didn’t give a shit about labelling their products properly even after that resulted in several anaphilaxis reactions and a death. They may label properly now but… under duress.

I don’t buy bottled water, I find the fact that we have been convinced to fork out good money for something so basic and essential, atrocious. And that is before we consider the stupid amount of extra plastic we now need to deal with.

The last one is more controversial, I choose not to recycle plastic, not because I don’t care but because as a country, we use more plastic than what we can recycle so what is not recycled is “sold” to poorer countries that don’t have the recycling facilities we do so we are basically paying them to get our rubbish out of our view and our conscience to end up polluting other countries or poisoning their populations when they burn it, so I choose to use as little plastic as I can rather than recycling it. I see it as not adding my bit to the extra tons of plastic our country cannot recycle.

Fair point. It's disturbing how many people either deny or minimise those shocking events.

Wirelessbird · 20/04/2026 09:49

I avoid the meat and diary industry as much as I can. Feels like one small thing I can do to not be part of mass suffering for convenience. Makes me feel active when the world feels overwhelming.

@CatrionaBalfouri am also not pro decimating Gaza! But these inane celebs using Gaza to make themselves feels better and to boost their careers is sickening! As transparent as a piece of clingfilm! If you’re pro human rights, you need to be for all human rights!

Done2much · 20/04/2026 09:52

I haven't used Amazon for years. makes no dent in their profits but will continue to boycott them

BashfulClam · 20/04/2026 09:53

If I see chuggers I make sure never to donate to that charity as it goes to wages for them. Sorry Shelter. I used to support you but after a guy paid by you wouldn’t stop harassing me when I was trying to catch a train home as my father had just died I will not give you my money. I was openly upset and crying and he wouldn’t fuck off! The one who turn up at the doors are all off my list now too!
