What little acts of rebellion or activism do you do?

I’m not talking about going on marches, but minor things, that you know about.

Mine is I won’t play Michael Jackson songs, after all the alleged behaviour, which certainly wouldn’t be accepted by today’s standards.

The second is I won’t buy McCain products, after they put out an advert for Smileys, which referred to ‘knocker’s’ in them. I thought that language had died out in the seventies.

An area near me has put up loads of England flags, but the most annoying are the tiny ones like on hand held flags that have been stapled to trees. I know trees arent racist so on my way walking through the area I remove them.

DramaAndBullshit · 20/04/2026 08:59

I cross out ‘Gender’ on forms and correct it to ‘sex’

when walking I no longer move out of the way of oncoming men.

I have never done that! I have stopped in front of them.

HectorPlasm · 20/04/2026 09:06

I tend to find that I can't boycott because I never used their services in the first place.

I won't use any service or firm that sponsors Manchester United but given I'm not in the market for Thai tractors or Indian tyres, that's not so difficult

Also Gillette - for their advert calling all men toxic

peepsypops · 20/04/2026 09:06

I won’t be going to the USA or Israel for as long as they have those men running their country.

Originally for the suffragettes but these days is a nod for women against gender ideology. I have an Adult Woman Female coffee mug 😊

Yes, Green White Violet = Give Women Votes, and still stands for WOMENS rights now.

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 20/04/2026 09:09

Boycott Lush, Bodyshop, Starbucks, John Lewis and M&S. Won't watch programs and films with certain actors in.
On a personal level, there are several local shops and cafes we dont go in. The posh chocolate shop as they sacked dd from her Saturday job and a cafe out dh can't remember why.

Suffragette colours! I wear them too.

TheyGrewUp · 20/04/2026 09:14

I always say the traditional words to the Lord's Prayer.

I avoid Sainsbury's due to their gate and receipt policy.

When Al Fayed bought Harrods, I closed my account.

I pay in cash for purchases that cost less than a tenner.

If one of GP's at my practice uses my first name, I ask if I may use theirs. They twitch.

FlyingApple · 20/04/2026 09:15

Don't wear make up, don't buy the latest fashion trends, don't wear jewellery except my wedding ring, don't do my hair other than going to the hairdressers and brushing it 😂

IAmBeaIDrinkTea · 20/04/2026 09:16

There's me thinking I don't do anything but on reading the thread it seems I actually do 😁

  • I also report all obviously AI pics if they show up on my feed. I just wish they had an actual option to say it's because it's AI when it asks you for a reason. I end up having to put "other" or something like that.
  • I also sometimes hide the Daily Mail behind the Mirror. Especially if it's a particular poisonous rage baiting "get them frothing" headline.

All the staff at my GP's, and my dentists, introduce themselves by first names and have done for years.

Same. I prefer looking at people who are capable of facial expressions

Mapletree1985 · 20/04/2026 09:18

I don't own a car and take it as a challenge to use public transport for everything. Once I brought a new double mattress home on the bus. I called the bus operator beforehand to make sure they would allow it.

I operate a cash economy and use a dumb phone. I don't do internet banking.

Pocahontasandme · 20/04/2026 09:18

GloiredeDijon · 20/04/2026 07:41

I agree about Michael Jackson. I can’t listen to the music, which I previously loved, knowing what he did.

(To anybody who still doubts his guilt I would say that after watching the testimony of his victims I 100% know he is guilty. I am a survivor of abuse myself and believe me you can recognise the truth (or lies) in others when you see and hear it.)

It is mind boggling that there are still stage shows, tribute acts etc.

As regards other stuff, well I boycott a variety of companies because of their stance on trans ideology, most specifically Lush but tbh they wouldn’t get my business anyway as their packaging is so ugly so that isn’t hard.

I avoid as much US stuff as I can because Trump his supporters are doing their very best to ruin the world.

I never eat at fast food places like Mc Donald's, KFC etc because they disgust me in a variety of ways.

I post Reform letters and leaflets back to them at their Freepost address so as to cost them money.

Years ago I used to go out and put up anti hunting posters and stickers in the dead of night. Had to be stealthy because I live in a very rural tory area.

Could anyone tell me a good documentary that would convince my friend about Michael Jackson ? She’s convinced he’s innocent, I’m not

Slightly less rebellious now, but didn’t “share” my pronouns at the height of pronoun pronouncements on email and LinkedIn profiles. Felt particularly petty rebellious because I used to deliver D&I programmes at work 😎

Don’t by Starbucks as they don’t pay proper tax in the UK.

Sadly can’t quite give up Amazon for the same reasons

I totally refused to! In spite of my line manager talking to me about it, very pointedly.

Edited

I like your style.
Where did the mattress go?

I like my jewellry but have never worn makeup or followed fashion. I get my hair cut in a "shower and go" style. I don't see it as activism or rebellion, its just who I am.

EmeraldRoulette · 20/04/2026 09:21

I haven't heard of so many of the things mentioned on here

Also one person mentionednot buying bottled water and the brainwashing, etc

I don't know anyone who habitually buys bottled water - I've worked with a few people who have come into the UK from other countries and understandably started off by buying bottled water because I think that's a bit safer for your stomach when you arrive in any country

But someone who buys bottled water normally for all their water consumption - that is usually someone who's actually looking to spend money on something?

mention of other countries butchering their language - probably a lot of the expressions we use here are butchering English - I was tempted to write "probs" but I didn't 😂

This is the second thread I've seen recently with people talking about perfectly normal personal habits and seeing them as some kind of political stance. It's amazing and quite depressing how politics has become so embedded in our thoughts.

My dentist does, GP is very lopsided. I think they'd like the patients to drop a curtsey.
