What little acts of rebellion or activism do you do?

I’m not talking about going on marches, but minor things, that you know about.

Mine is I won’t play Michael Jackson songs, after all the alleged behaviour, which certainly wouldn’t be accepted by today’s standards.

The second is I won’t buy McCain products, after they put out an advert for Smileys, which referred to ‘knocker’s’ in them. I thought that language had died out in the seventies.

I think there are feminist stickers available for things like the back of public toilet doors etc.
I can’t remember what I saw

Comedian Mark Thomas had a book “100 minor acts of dissent “ that I’d recommend

He also used to have a great range of stickers.

How do you know he was innocent?

This. Interestingly, the LA police investigators were interviewed on the documentary currently on BBC iplayer. They said that the child gave identifying marks ion MJ’s penis/groin, which matched when he was subpoenaed for a body inspection. The marks the child said did match. His parents withdrew him as a witness because of the mental health issues the court case was giving him, and the case collapsed.

when walking I no longer move out of the way of oncoming men.

Hello sister! I am enjoying my walks so much more now since my similar defiance It is amazing how entitled such men are and it fascinates me that they just don't care, well they own the path don't they? So liberating to just march forward.

EmeraldRoulette · 20/04/2026 09:53

@CatrionaBalfour that is so rude and that's the first thing I would say to them

The main person who commented on my grey hair was a neighbour. He was an elderly man and I think he was a bit taken back by the response he got from me. He was very much of the "woman exists to be pretty" type. He apologised and just kept saying "I just think you are awfully young to have grey hair" - I was in my 30s at the time but his apology did not improve anything!

I have just realised that I probably shouldn't be on these threads though - half the pressure is probably coming from people's children, isn't it? People saying they never go to fast food places - neither do I but the only people I can imagine might be pressuring you to do it are your kids?

I was initially puzzled thinking "how can anyone feel pressured to go to a fast food place?" But then I remembered people have kids... 😂

Why would anyone block the Greens

Glitterbiscuits · 20/04/2026 09:55

Here a couple of samples of Mark Thomas’ stickers.
Sold out now but these sort of minor acts really cheer me up.

I do social research as part of my job and when a client wants to include "gender" I gently suggest "sex" instead. Or, if they are really adamant about gender, then I add two fields, one for sex and one about gender identity. I mean as far as research goes, knowing someone's gender identity is about as useful as finding out someone's starsign.

I understand where you're coming from, but that's a tricky one, really. How do you avoid products from China?
I'm not accusing you of hypocrisy, it's just how to manage the whole boycott thing.

Yes, avoiding things like car parts made in China is v difficult, for example. For my car the big parts are European made but apparently not small components. But I’ve managed it with my washing machine and dishwasher and my fridge freezer and microwave were second hand. Tbh I buy new consumer goods infrequently - the biggest problem is birthday presents for other people! sports wear is also quite often made in China, but again more brands are focussing on more European, natural materials… nowhere near perfect but getting better.

TroysMammy · 20/04/2026 09:55

I don't let drivers out who have parked against the flow of traffic.

I don't buy Spanish greenhouse produce after watching Simon Reeve Mediterranean.

I don't buy from Temu or other cheap/questionnable companies.

I won't have anything to do with horse racing.

I don't buy anything with palm oil/fat and that includes sustainable.

I contact companies if I see spelling errors on their websites.

GloiredeDijon · 20/04/2026 07:41

I agree about Michael Jackson. I can’t listen to the music, which I previously loved, knowing what he did.

(To anybody who still doubts his guilt I would say that after watching the testimony of his victims I 100% know he is guilty. I am a survivor of abuse myself and believe me you can recognise the truth (or lies) in others when you see and hear it.)

It is mind boggling that there are still stage shows, tribute acts etc.

As regards other stuff, well I boycott a variety of companies because of their stance on trans ideology, most specifically Lush but tbh they wouldn’t get my business anyway as their packaging is so ugly so that isn’t hard.

I avoid as much US stuff as I can because Trump his supporters are doing their very best to ruin the world.

I never eat at fast food places like Mc Donald's, KFC etc because they disgust me in a variety of ways.

I post Reform letters and leaflets back to them at their Freepost address so as to cost them money.

Years ago I used to go out and put up anti hunting posters and stickers in the dead of night. Had to be stealthy because I live in a very rural tory area.

I'm surprised you dare to get up in the morning in case you're offended.

luckylavender · 20/04/2026 09:57

Loads of these but my personal one is that I will never use Lloyds the Chemist as when DC was young, over 30 years ago, they gave me antibiotics that weren't mixed, so just the powder. I had the same bug myself, it was terrible. Everything was a struggle, getting to the pharmacy, finding a parking space, having change, waiting in line. They were so unapologetic too.

FernandoSor · 20/04/2026 09:57

Pick up litter.

And remove snares and release decoy birds from larsen traps.

LadyVioletBridgerton · 20/04/2026 09:57

I’m point blank refusing to see the musical Six at any venue, ever, since they cast Dylan Mulvaney as Anne Boleyn on Broadway. Even after he finishes, I’ll never go and see it.

There’s one poster on here whose posts I resolutely scroll past after she was such a nasty bitch to me.

Happyjoe · 20/04/2026 09:57

I don't buy anything tested on animals or from companies who test for overseas selling even if don't test for Europe market. I've been like this for years and years though.

Don't buy anything from Greggs.

AussieManque · 20/04/2026 09:59

m1ghtl1ke · 20/04/2026 08:15

HectorPlasm · 20/04/2026 10:01

I've boycotted Amazon for years. Spending $bn on vanity space projects rather than projects to end poverty, homelessness or abuse?.

The Government/any government should change the way these big corporations are taxed given they offshore to Luxembourg for tax purposes and we lose the revenue.
Looking at you Ebay/Amazon and many more.

Tax profits at the point of revenue or f**k off out.
Surely with >70m residents our Government has the power to do that.

Why would anyone block the Greens

Honestly, it's pretty drastic for me to even consider doing something like this

But the antisemitism, the rampant misogyny, the march towards socialism, the more sinister side of what's going on with their allies... I shudder to think what's inside that Trojan horse when the outside looks so awful!

Didn't their leader recently say that people like me should be marginalised or left out of society or something? I didn't used to be considered that right wing, I mean I would not have a lot of services in private ownership but apparently other things make me right wing? Who knows any more?

perhaps I'll be too off my face on the legalised heroin to be worried about any of it if they get into power!

StillSpartacus · 20/04/2026 10:06

Have a few items of jewellery in suffragette colours.
All forms I have any input into say sex, not gender.
Boycott Nestle, Lush, Starbucks and since Trump’s second term, all US products where there is a viable alternative. (Tech is hard).
Closed Ocado account after they decided adult human female was an offensive term.
Donate to as many court cases as I can to support women, supporting women’s rights.
loving the idea of returning party political junk mail to reform to cost them money. I might steal that.

MasculineProviderEnergy · 20/04/2026 10:07

Greying hair and I don't remove body hair. Some people find this quite disgusting.

I put anarchy stickers up

I boycott a local business after the owner was charged with possession of 2500 CSA images and received a £300 fine. Then officially changed his name and put the business in his husband's name.

I like to build a little fire in the woods once a week, and have a little dance around it.

Life is waaaaaaaay too short to be worrying about this kind of bullshit 🤡

Yet you took time to comment…

PilatesAndLattes · 20/04/2026 10:07

I cross the road ahead of cars (with good warning) making them stop or slow down, especially if it’s raining.

Sometimes I have a dessert for dinner.

Walking straight into oncoming men until they move out of my way.

Keeping my children off some days at nursery while it’s not compulsory, although still frowned upon, to do fun things together.
