What little acts of rebellion or activism do you do?

I’m not talking about going on marches, but minor things, that you know about.

Mine is I won’t play Michael Jackson songs, after all the alleged behaviour, which certainly wouldn’t be accepted by today’s standards.

The second is I won’t buy McCain products, after they put out an advert for Smileys, which referred to ‘knocker’s’ in them. I thought that language had died out in the seventies.

Avoiding buying from companies that gift to "influencers". Looking at you Radfords 😡

Why does this make you so mad?

And if that stops some girls from attending? So effectively you are putting the feelings of boys in front of girls?

And what happens with the camp? Do the boys (sorry ‘trans girls’) share with the girls? As surely that’s a safeguarding issue.

We don’t have any trans girls in our unit, in fact I don’t think anybody in my district does. The issue around single sex spaces is one I leave to the people who are in charge, making sure those who might be impacted by transphobia still feel safe in my unit is for me to deal with.

CatrionaBalfour · 21/04/2026 07:29

It's not an exaggeration to say that Girl Guiding saved me, and was my rock in adolescence. Girls need spaces and need to be safe.

Well who is going to be in the Daily Mail in a few days time? I bet this is a thread prompted by a journalist.

“Shock Confessions: Mumsnet Users Deliberately Drag Their Prams Down the Side of Your Car and Cut Down Your Wire Fences!”

You know it could though, right. Some blokes are big enough to knock you off your feet.

This happened to me. He deliberately collided in a way which caused extreme pain and he kept on walking at speed. I remember bursting into tears.

If I see any salt path books on display in a shop I hide them. I dont like cheats to prosper 😁

A lot of people are like this. I won’t have breast screening or smear tests (not for the same reasons).

Batshit. . To rebel against something that could save your life .

@Nmss Sorry, I don’t know the reasoning behind d your earrings and their colours?

Suffragette colours I'm guessing. Or Wimbledon!

To be fair it’s less of a rebellion are more based in fear. I stopped having smears because I couldn’t stand the pain.

Tbf the Radfords make me rage too.

LassitersLegend · 21/04/2026 08:35

Agree about MJ, they were playing his song in a shop the other day and I cant understand why his music is still played, they don't play Gary Glitter songs anymore.
I try to avoid buying brands that gift to influencers, so for example I'd never buy an Emma mattress.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 21/04/2026 08:38

Genuine question to all the ones who hide books in bookshops…

The only person who you are inconveniencing is the person working there who has to sort the books out. Why would you choose to inconvenience someone who is an innocent party just to make yourselves feel better?

I had all my mammograms till I aged out. When I was widowed I did a risk assessment about smears and decided not to continue with them. Same with pooh sticks. I used to do them and have stopped. I don't view it as activism or rebellion and I don't really think the poster does either.

I agree. I shudder when I hear MJ songs played in public.

That’s right - it was just because people were moaning at those who choose to avoid screening.

nodramamama · 21/04/2026 09:00

While a few whitter on about opinions on Michael Jackson (a dead man, unable to defend himself) being guilty simply because they 'think' he is, where no shred of evidence exists, the true evil of the Epstein files actually exists and actually continues to function, right now. Plenty of real evidence.

Something real to be up in arms about. Not ' listening to music' or not.

Well, they'll love mine if so then, where I said I sometimes hide their poisonous "get em frothing" headlines behind copies of the Mirror 😂

Why should they get stuff for free when there's more deserving people?(A family who's 18 year old dad didn't get the mum pregnant at 13 for example)😡

See, this kind of stuff I just can't get worked up over.
Social media can, whether you like it or not, be a job for some and if they've got a platform, why can't they advertise stuff? To me it's no different to adverts on a more traditional one such as the telly or whatever.
Anyways as you were, don't want to derail

I agree, but I think some people don't really have respect for shop assistants, so don't really care.

as I say (too) often on here. Other people's choices that do not affect the moaners are none of their business.

What time do you age out? My MIL got breast cancer at 79 and my grandmother got it at 94.
